I agree this could not have happened without the current “Wild West” portal “rules”. Would Hemby and Mendoza, as examples, been willing to sit out an entire year if they had transferred “back in the day”? Probably not. Would MAC/JMU type producers have been willing to sit for a year while also not receiving monetary incentive to transfer. Probably not. That being said…..that doesn’t detract from anything Cig has accomplished. ALL poor/mediocre/average programs have also been in the “portal/NIL era” but NONE of them have done what Cig and IU have done.

IU alum (decades before Kelly School of business was Kelly ..LOL) that 100% believed Cig had dramatically raised our floor but after years of football failure I still held onto a little “brand bias” when it came to our ceiling. Could we really compete with the “big dogs”? Cig essentially said “stick it where the sun don’t shine” and goes out and wins at Oregon and beats OSU (not to mention IL, at Iowa etc). There is NO DOUBT, especially with our defense, that we can beat ANYONE. Never thought I would live to see this.

And Akron missed an end of game 25 or so yard field goal to win the game in regulation!! Calling what Cig has done a miracle understates what he (and staff players) has accomplished

How is this for insightful….We really, really, really need to win this game. Going 0-2 against Minnesota and at home vs PSU would be less than optimal. Tony Adragna did a video breakdown after the Marquette game (I think it was Marquette) and IU’s ball movement, movement on the perimeter, cuts, screens with purpose etc was a beautiful thing to watch. Would love to see that offensive play and great effort from the tip-off.

Post-game one of the IU players said Enright had been talking non-stop about guarding Haggerty the previous three days. He may get overmatched at some point but he is a “dog” and quickly becoming my favorite player. Quick, name our gritty “dog” last year……The correct answer is: no one.

I don’t (obviously) want to lose Haines but am predicting that the JMU coach will get a P4 job and Haines will become the JMU HC. Hope I’m wrong.
