Think Bill Walton would consider the job?
-
I think I started out with the talking heads right? But fine, you guys want to work yourselves into a lather because Tom Crean isn't controlling a player's mother's personal facebook page and you can do it without realizing how stupid you all sound, go ahead. Guess it gets us more page views anyway. I'm sure you'd be just as upset if Zimmerman's mom had posted the same thing to her facebook. I know you'd all tune in to ESPN 2 because it was a big news story you couldn't get enough of. Or, more likely? You wouldn't care at all.
-
Now no one will know it's actually Crean's kid! He'll catch all the best April Fool's jokes!
-
That, I totally get and support. I'm against the parent idea in this thread that the program somehow cannot tolerate parents posting on their facebook about their kids. And that Troy's mom's actions in doing so were so disgusting she needs to do more than just apologize and we need to teach a valuable lesson about daring to be a family member of a kid at Indiana! The greater idea that this team encourages that kind of criticism and reactions from family's and fans because we are generally a wreck in a lot of ways? Oh for sure. But, that isn't Troy's mom's fault. I mean, we all see this is a screenshot of a facebook post that appears to be on one of Troy's mom's "friend's" feeds forwarded on to the media specifically to make a stink right?
-
Ok. What does than have to do with the fans? Isn't this thread about how the fans are embarrassed and she hasn't earned her forgiveness and everything because she has desecrated our hallowed Halls? Why are we at Indiana "disgusted" by her behavior if it's just between her and her son? That sounds like a family thing that would occur no matter how she says them to him. Wait, do we think parents shouldn't be allowed to tell their kids how they feel either?
-
She is not at Indiana. She is not under CTC's care or guidance or control. This cannot reflect on his ability to control his team. And the way to garner more respect is to shame her and demand more than an apology and whine about what she said? Respect is earned by the team and coach. Condemning Troy's mom for not respecting a team that has earned none is petty and small.

What? Troy's mother looks bad to Troy?
-
To whom? Looks bad to whom? Talking heads? Recruit's parents? NBA scouts? Other fan bases? Indiana fans? Can someone find me a few examples of people who care about this whose opinions we value? And explain why we value their opinion? My mother-in-law once made us leave a concert because she ate onions at dinner and knew everyone thought she smelled bad. She couldn't think of who thought that or why she would care about it, but worked it up so much in her head she couldn't understand everyone else wasn't consumed with it like she was. That's exactly what is happening with the Indiana fan base here. "Looks bad" "reflects poorly" these things all require a third party whose opinion we care about. Who are these third parties and why do we think they are even thinking about it?
-
Apparently.
-
The only people I saw caring at all were the same talking heads who feast on TMZ videos of players because they get paid to fill the airwaves. They are the only people outside of our fan base who thought about it for more than a minute. I have plenty of people I'm in contact with from other fan bases. They didn't know or they didn't care. You have to be very stupid or very old to make a huge deal out of what someone posts to their own Facebook wall. This level of scrutiny of the family of players is gross. It's everything we should hate about the E! style media. What's next? Bryant's little sister says she thinks Crean is a mean ole poopy head and we paste that on the front page?

It's a total non-issue for anyone who understands social media. She's a parent. You can't tell her what she can't do on her Facebook. Her agenda does not control the program. What solution do you propose? Punish Troy until he gets his mom in line? Interview people's parents before offering? It's not coming from anyone related to the program. Whether Doc Libby is great or not (she is) does not affect the program. I know it would have been an issue if Noort's mom published an editorial in the Journal Gazette and I'm sure Coach a Knight would have been happy to choke her back into line. But it's 2015 and every single mom has Facebook. We can not pretend coaches or players should have any control over someone's mother. This is a non-issue. I don't care what Joe Flacco's mom says, why do I care what Troy Williams' mom says? Why would anyone possibly care what a person says about their kid in a heated moment? Does she coach basketball? Does she understand any coaching principles? Does Crean listen to her? Then who cares if a mom thinks her kid deserves PT? If Troy understands then that is the only person Crean can control. I mean, what could possibly want from her? What does she have to do to earn your forgiveness?

Sweet. Feel free to mention this in your letter to Glass since it is directly a result of the upset.
-
It was ridiculous but it's a mom tweeting on her Twitter. I mean, what does anyone want? Should we be screening every player to make sure their families are in line with our values? Parent police? I mean, who cares? A parent believes their kid should play more and disagrees with a coach? Stop the presses! There must be a game going on at any level of any sport anywhere in the country. It's just crazy we are even bothering to talk about this. It's the most non-issue non-issue ever. Would anyone care if Kobe's mom got pissed about something?
-
Fixed it I think. Let me know. Dalton wasn't sure what time the sort-of-loser game was and left it on the default noon close.
-
Poor Thad. Fans won't let him get away with a bad couple years. That isn't IU.
-
WF is doing its best to really make that a bad loss for us.
-
If everyone's doing it you'll likely have a good idea if it's safe. I mean, I've jumped bridges with my friends into water.

KenPom's entire ranking system is based on expectation to win against an average team. That's what the Pythagorean win percentage is. If they played an average team they would win [%] of the time. It's absolutely based on expectations. Wake is a team we should have beaten by 15. Whatever post-hoc "they're better than we think" makes you feel better is fine. But, they are not a team that should have even given us a tense game. It's realistic to expect a team with as many high-level players as we have to be able to handle a team even in the top-70 who is missing their leading scorer. That game was an embarrassment. And that game absolutely put us in a worse position for the tournament, seeding, and rpi. If that's ok with you because we were never going to be successful anyway then... That's your burden to bear. Hope you enjoy watching a team you don't expect anything from. At least all the positives will be a pleasant surprise. -

So like, no expectations of any team? No one can evaluate the talent on their team and compare it to other teams to make conclusions about their teams ability to beat those teams? What's the point of doing any analysis then? How do we think about goals and the future? Is it unfair of me to expect them to beat a bottom of the ACC team? Can I expect them to win a bunch of individual match ups? If so, when do I have to stop? Won't my single game expectations eventually fill a whole season and maybe post season? Isn't the entire definition of an upset an unexpected result? No one would be upset if we didn't have expectations. Ken Pom's whole system is based on winning expectations. Is that wrong too? -

Well, in this alternative universe he could figure out that plan during the first timeout instead of taking two.
