2021/2022 Men’s Basketball Season
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don’t know but hopefully he gets them soon. You can hide bad defenders when you have great team defense. The kid can shoot it, and that’s something we really need. Right now we’re 152nd in 3pt % and 279th in FT %. We need to improve both of those numbers. I’ve seen some good things from Woody and 5-0 is great but we also have quite a bit to improve on. -
I want to see Woody coach a game in that exact outfit.

I’ve thought his body looks more developed this year too. He’s still skinny but he’s not getting pushed around like last year. He’ll add on some more weight as his career progresses. I’m really excited about him. I think the sky is the limit for Khristian. The sample size is obviously small, but he’s a career 85.7% free throw shooter (12 of 14). Yogi’s first season he only averaged 7.6 and 4.1 assists in 28 minutes per game. Yogi also shot 30% from 3 his freshman season. He was on a loaded team so he wasn’t asked to do as much offensively as he was later on. You can teach a lot of things, but you can’t teach quickness or vision. Yogi had it, and I think Lander does too. He gets to go up against a great guard defender in Phinisee every day at practice, and he has a smart coach who will push him constantly. I think he’ll be an all conference guard before his college career is over in all honesty.

IUFB Offseason/Transfer Portal News
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I saw an article the other day talking about how he’s thrown for like 9k yards during high school in the highest division in Texas.. Not too shabby. I doubt he’ll be ready as a true freshman though so hopefully we can land a quality qb in the portal. I’m not sold on McCulley. -
He was ranked #135 in his class so it isn’t toooo crazy that he hasn’t become a stud, but I agree. During his first couple months he looked like a kid who was going to be a lot better than his ranking. Unfortunately, those were the best two months he’s had at IU and he’s just gotten worse every year since then.

Rob’s basically a 6’1 shooting guard who can’t shoot. It’s not an ideal situation to have, at least offensively. He’s a very good defender but honestly the defense has been outstanding the past two games without him. Sure it was against not so great competition, but still. The defense looks great. It makes it harder to try to find minutes for a defensive specialist when we can still put out a great defense without him. Lander’s defense hasn’t looked nearly as bad as it did last year. He’s getting better on that end, and he’ll continue improving as he plays more. On the offensive end, you can’t teach his vision. He’s always looking to push the ball and make plays. A lot of his turnovers come from him trying to do too much, like the turnover on the fast break from the pass to Bates. Those will be cut down once he gets a better feel for the college games. You can reel a player in more easily than you can get a player to start taking risks. I like that he’ll make a bad play but stay just as aggressively instead of becoming hesitant. I just feel like the benefits of Rob’s defense do not outweigh the way he tanks the offense. He has a -0.5 PER and a 32.7 TS% this year. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen such low numbers from a rotational guard before. The more experience Lander gets the more it’ll benefit us in the future. A guard trio of Lander/Bates/JHS is pretty dang good and would be attractive for post players/wings looking to transfer.

College Basketball Doomsday Scenarios
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Purdue going undefeated and nothing else really comes close. The UK rivalry doesn’t get me going. We’ve only played three times in the past decade. -
I don’t know what the splits are either, but his percentages are either really bad or too infrequent to make an impact on his overall numbers. We’re talking about a 6’1 guard who is a career 29.5% from 3. In conference play during his career he’s a 27.4% three point shooter. That’s the problem with playing him. He has to be ‘just a shooter’ on offense because he can’t do anything else on that end, but he can’t shoot either.

Game Thread: vs. St. John’s - 9:12 - FS1
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It wasn’t profane, they didn’t yell slurs, and it was done in response to St. John’s trying to troll Trayce on Twitter. It was great. It’s college basketball, not Sunday school. -

Sad but true. Football game days are a lot of fun so I wish we had a consistently good team, but alas. I’d settle with a good basketball team, lol.
