Promoting from within would be such an IU move. Because what could go wrong if you promote someone to fix the offense they were apart of.

Put Tom Allen on the hot seat

Might be harder to raise money if Woody gets the basketball team rolling. It’s easier for fans to just ignore a bad football program if the basketball team is doing well. Students will just go back to drinking in the tailgate fields and not making it into the stadium. -
IU has the new volleyball/wrestling gym. I’ve never been to it though so idk if it could be converted into a basketball arena for a game.

For real. Basically “hey you won’t get to pick your assistants but come here and try to revive a really bad offense with the coaches who were all here for that really bad offense.” Not the ideal job posting. Do you know how much we can pay the new OC? -

Yikes. Allen got almost $2.5 million per win this year so don’t care that he had to take a paycut, but big yikes if we’re stuck with the rest of the assistants and can only afford a new OC. -
We already basically have an 8k student section. Ours is 7800. Something like that wouldn’t work in Assembly Hall unless you could get 17k students to fill up the arena. What Texas did works because it’s a smaller gym and it’s packed. A half empty Assembly Hall with only students wouldn’t give the same atmosphere as that. It’s a really cool concept, though, if IU could find a smaller gym.

These moves really show that you can’t worry about hiring a guy because you think he’ll use you as a stepping stone. Even programs as historic as Notre Dame and Oklahoma are getting their coaches poached. Gotta just hire the best coach you can and let the chips fall.

Put Tom Allen on the hot seat

We need to replace basically all our skills players on offense. We need a new qb. We need a new RB. We need new wide receivers. We need new tight ends to replace Hendershot. Seems unlikely that we’ll be able to do all that in one offseason but I guess we’ll find out. -

I don’t know why you call it the 8-4 season instead of the 8-5 season. It was a nice season, but we didn’t beat a single team with a winning record. The covid year was so unprecedented between the no fans, players sitting out because of contact tracing/covid, players opting out of the season. It’s hard to know who benefitted from what. We had a chance to come out and prove that the covid season wasn’t a fluke. Instead, we went 0-9 in the conference. We’ve only gone winless in the conference twice in the past 25 years and five times in the past 60 years. It was one of our worst seasons in program history, and definitely one of the worst considering the preseason expectations. Allen finished his 5th season and we’re firmly the worst team in the conference. We weren’t even competitive. -
24/7 had him listed as the #6 #LEO quarterback in his class.

He makes $1.4 million a year at OSU. He wasn’t too successful at IU so maybe he has only gotten lower tier head coaching jobs (if he’s gotten any). DeBoer makes less than him at Fresno State, for example. Might prefer being an OC at OSU over something like that, but who knows. -
Williams tore his ACL in March. McCulley wasn’t even on campus yet. Who knows who would’ve been ahead of who at the start of the season. Regardless, you can’t really use ‘we played our 5th string quarterback’ as an excuse when you made the conscious decision not to play a healthy player who was ahead of the 5th string guy on the depth chart.
-
Which honestly makes it make even less sense for me. I thought he was hurt and that’s why the walk-on was starting. Then here he comes. So, he’s healthy and then you bench him after you burn his redshirt. But whatever. Just glad that mess is over.
-
We chose to play the 5th string quarterback. The four star freshman, highest qb recruit in program history was sitting on the bench healthy.

Funny to see because just a few hours ago I saw his quote about not leaving for the LSU job.. He wasn’t lying!

2021/2022 Men’s Basketball Season
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Eh not really. Let’s see where he’s at come February. And in any event, I don’t even really know how this turned into a referendum on his shooting because I don’t think he’s a bad shooter. I just don’t think he alone is going to fix our shooting issues. He isn’t going to play or shoot enough for that this year. Franklin shot 42.4% from 3 on twice the volume of Bates and we were still 243rd in the country in 3 pt percentage last year. We need shooters all over. On top of TJD’s ridiculous performance, we won last because we shot 74% from the line and 53% from 3. -

That’s really splitting hairs on TJD, though. He was ranked 30th in his class and was the second highest 4 star in his class. He was rated at 0.989 and the lowest 5 star was a 0.9903. He was a McDonalds All American. You can count on a player like that contributing immediately. Banks is currently ranked 80th in his class. Totally different tiers of players. -
Our run game was terrible last year. 12th in the conference in yards per game and 13th in the conference in yards per attempt. Penix was our whole offense. When he went down, the offense struggled. We gained 217 yards against Wisconsin and only won because our defense held them to 6 points. Our defense was great. 1st in the conference in interceptions. 1st in turnovers per game. 2nd in sacks. 1st in red zone defense. 4th in points allowed per game. Our offense benefitted quite a bit from a defense that led the conference in takeaways.

Time to hire a competent OC. One of Allen’s OC’s was a stud, the other two were total duds.

The 5 minute scoring drought definitely concerns me because it’s the exact problem we had last year. Too often we look like TJD and 4 guys. I’’m hopeful but also concerned.
