  1. Eric Bossi thinks we still get De'Ron, but even if he changes his pick between now and Davis' announcement time, don't be too alarmed.   Just yesterday, he predicted South Carolina for Seventh Woods, because he heard the allure of playing close to home and the threat of pending sanctions at UNC would be too much to overcome.   Lo and behold, Woods popped for North Carolina today.
  2. Wow, Bob Knight was absolutely right on that.  There really is probably no difference between the 8th ranked SF in the country and the 32nd ranked PF.   The fact is that recruiting and scouting is such a business now.  Where there's money to be made, it's going to be made.
  3. Mississippi State took 2 PFs last year, a 4* and a 3*.   They've got Herard locked up now and are still going after Abdul Ado, a 6'10" top 100 ranked player from TN.   Competition for playing time in the front court may actually be higher at MSU than here, which is crazy.    Man, we have to lock him up.  Losing him to MSU would be so deflating.
  4. So basically Max B. > Hanner/Holt?
  5.   Purdue targeting him as well.  Has he even visited there?
  6.   Really? That's the only reasonable possible explanation you can think of?
  7. He's ranked in the Top 150 and is a 6'4" guard.  We'll have to continue to evaluate his game as his high school season rolls on, but those are two good places to start.
  8.   No idea, I'm not a member so that's why I posted it here to see if anyone knew anything.   I suppose something will leak tomorrow or this weekend, if there is anything.
  9. Looks like there may be something buzzing over on peegs regarding Davis.  Hope it's good news, who knows though.
  10. I think he's trolling fans and doesn't want his college choice to be so obvious.
  11.   I'll pay for it if he wants to commit.
  12. Dang, kind of deflating to keep checking the boards in hopes of news of a commitment, but alas it's not to be yet.   Looks like he'll go through the process of taking all his visits and will probably decide sometime in the early signing period I imagine.   Hopefully the visit went well.
  13. Meh, Noah Vonleh also had official visits set up to Ohio State and Syracuse, but committed to us on his first visit.   It's not at all uncommon to commit despite having more official visits upcoming.
  14. Eric Bossi says we are still the team to beat, echoing what he said he heard all summer.   I'll be checking the boards all weekend in hopes of some good news.
  15. I immediately went to weather.com to check Bloomington's forecast this weekend, and it's supposed to 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.  Plenty of chances to see IU's finest assets this weekend :D
  16.   I assume in a positive way?  Not sure if he is an Adidas kid or not...
  17.   This.  Co-signed.  X 1,000.   I liked this post, then unliked it just so I could like it again.   I like Bruce Brown and Curtis Jones too, but I'd take a 4th-year junior Newkirk over either of them to lead our team at PG.  Hopefully we get 1 of them because we still need an additional guard, but Newkirk has me all kinds of excited.   It's a great fit for our team.
  18.   His first two years at Pitt, he shot 35.7% from 3PT.   Yogi Ferrell's first two years at IU, he shot 37.5% from 3PT.    Not too much of a difference there, and there's no reason to think Josh Newkirk can't improve his shot a little as an upperclassmen, inching closer to 40%.   Sure his numbers may look pedestrian, but that's to be expected at a place like Pittsburgh.  They run a slow, plodding style like Georgetown and Purdue that's heavily reliant on their big guys.  Newkirk is the type of player who wants to get out and run, which is why he came here.   I really like this pickup, and am excited to hear how he does when he starts practicing against/with the team in December.
  19.   Because Melo has mastered the art of jerking his head back at the slightest bit of contact, instantly earning him a trip to the foul line.  Drives me nuts.   He's a good player and all, but Yogi eats his lunch.
  20.   I understand it perfectly too - you're just looking for something to complain about.   I'm not trying to say "I told you so," but literally all of your complaints you expressed in your post were refuted by me.  I'm just trying to make you a little more optimistic.  Landing Grant Gelon does not put the nail in the coffin for IU basketball's elite status.  Get real.
  21. Getting a big like Davis would be instrumental in getting someone like T.J. Leaf.  We have to remember that when Leaf committed to Arizona this past November, he knew if he came here that he'd probably be one of the biggest guys on the team, and there would be a good chance of him having to guard opposing bigs in the B1G.   T.J. is definitely a wing/stretch 4 who sees himself as more of a 3, so he doesn't want to even entertain the idea of guarding Daniel Giddens, Isaac Haas, Diamond Stone, etc.   DeRon Davis would be a great addition to a frontcourt of Thomas Bryant and Emmitt Holt.
  22. This actually sounds like a good idea.  So they are under the impression they'll get 5 current McDonald's All Americans?   I wonder who they are.  My guess is that Swanigan and Skal Labasierre are two of them.
  23. OG definitely has a bigger frame than Juwan, maybe he could turn into more of a 4 than a 3 when he adds muscle.
