bnkepner reacted to AKHoosier in Steve Alford, future IU coach?
Please no.
If he hadn't gone to IU, nobody would even think of Steve Alford being the coach here.

I agree there is little value in preseason rankings.
For example: I wonder where Dayton was ranked nationally in last year's preseason? They had a pretty good run, didn't they?

Preseason rankings are garbage. I, for one, put as much value in them as I do recruit rankings. This just means we need to quiet the critics and prove ourselves on the court. Go Hoosiers!

You do realize that colleges give offers to dozens upon dozens of kids each year and miss out on a ton as well. We also went hard after guys like Troy Williams, Robert Johnson, James Blackmon Jr, Stanford Robinson and Noah Vonleh over the last year or two. All the guys I just listed were recruited by top programs and Crean and his staff were able to "win". We are not the only team that loses out on recruits. It's very easy to sit back and only see a players ratings and make all the assumptions, but let the kids play before making an judgment. Zeisloft already started to prove that he belongs here.

Holy crap...three to five five stars?!?
You realize that in any given year there are only about forty or fifty five stars playing in D1 (the others have gone pro long before their four years are up).
You think that IU should have ten percent of all five stars playing in a given year?!?
"We are Indiana" is correct. We are NOT Kentucky, putting a team on the court of exclusively mercenaries who, to a player, have NO intention of obtaining a college degree.
And thank goodness for that. -

I agree on Leaf.
Would love to have Maker but feel like he would only be here a year and as with our last 1 and done might not be all in all the time.Leaf would most likely be here 2 or more.
I'm not saying Noah was a bad kid but I think he mailed it in towards the end when a win or 2 would have changed things.

April is not Bawa. He is not Tijan. He is not Guy Marc Michel. Jeremiah April is Jeremiah April. Please give him a chance to be himself before stereotyping him into a group.

I will say I am hoping to see IU land DeRon Davis in 2016, no matter what happens with Thon Maker. He could be DJ White-esque. Now THAT is a big kid who knows how to play inside.

Hanner wore a boot on his foot as a precaution most of last season but it was never serious enough to hold him out of games. It's too early to worry about this now. Jurkin came to IU injured. He had been injured since high school. Jeremiah got hurt in practice at IU, big difference. From what I know, April doesn't have a history of injury and that was a known fact about Jurkin in high school.

I think JBJ as a late lottery pick in 2016, Troy in the first round 2016 and yogi end of first or 2nd round steal in 2016 as well

I don't know why you guys are so critical. Some of you comment to Indiana every day.

Prediction: This kid ends up never playing D1 and never makes it to the NBA. In other words he ends up being forgotten within the next year

bnkepner got a reaction from Walking Boot of Doom in Top "Realistic" Recruit Commits for 15
I just think people have to remember that sometimes kids already have their mind made up. Indiana has offered and really recruited guys like Bluiett, Harris, Swanigan for example and those kids flat out didn't want to come to IU. Bluiett didn't want to be in the shadow of Yogi anymore. For example you mention Kyle Guy, Indiana was the first to offer him and show significant interest but he has seemed to take more interest and get more excited when getting offered by like Iowa. Some kids here in the state just honestly don't want to come for some odd reason. It's hard to use the "history" and program "prestige" with these kids because IU's decades of success was pretty much before most of these recruits were even born.
