  1. Michigan it is. My winter high school bookeeping is getting less and less by the hour.
  2. Incoming Indiana diving signee Carson Tyler won the men's 1M and 3M Springboard events at the 2021 USA Diving Junior National Championships earlier this week. The 2021 USA Diving Junior National Championships took place from July 29-August 4 at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. More than 500 junior divers, ages 18 and under, had the opportunity to compete in the prestigious event. The Hoosier signee scored big point on his final dive of the contest to win the 1M Springboard event with a final tally of 563.85 points, 8.90 points ahead of the runner-up. Tyler scored big points (75.95) to open the final round and sealed the victory with a 72.00-point dive on a Reverse 1 1/2 Somersault 2 1/2 Twist (5335D). The Moultrie, Ga., native cleared the rest of the field by over 57 points on the 3M Springboard after putting together a two-round, 11-dive set of 705.30 points. He totaled 481.60 points on his final six dives to run away with the individual title. Tyler scored 69.70 points or higher on all six of his final dives, including four dives north of 75 points and two above 85 total points. His fifth dive of the finals, a Reverse 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck (307C) recorded a 99.75 after all six judges gave the dive at least a 9.0. The 28.50 net score coupled with the 3.50 dive difficulty multiplier gave Tyler the highest scored dive of the competition. He also finished second overall on the 10M Platform with a final score of 604.90 points, just 18.8 points behind the winner. He ended the round with an incredible 97.35-point dive. He received perfect 10.0 scores from four judges, a 9.5, and two 9.0 scores IU fans received their first taste of the talented future Hoosier during the 2020 Olympic Diving Trials in the middle of June. Tyler competed in three of the four contested events at the competition and finished third in the men's 3M Synchro Springboard, 10th in the men's 10m Platform, and 16th in the men's 3M Springboard event. Tyler joins an already loaded men's diving team led by three-time Team USA Olympic Diving Head Coach, Drew Johansen. In the fall, he will be teamed up with rising senior Logan Brown, Olympic silver medalist Andrew Capobianco, incoming freshman and Olympic Trial qualifier Quinn Henninger, and NCAA qualifier and senior-to-be Cole VanDevender.

  6. NCAA has released guidance for fall sports. Key provision is vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine after a close contact with an infected individual. They will have to test within 3-4 days. Unvaxxed will be subject to some quarantine period. https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ssi/COVID/SSI_ResocializationFall2021.pdf
  7. Because of an increased number of virus cases, Monroe County and IU have returned to a mask mandate when indoors. The IU mask mandate is also directed at all of its regional campuses. Nothing currently indicates plans to reduce attendance limits or require masks for outdoor sports.

  11. Brief comments on his final 7. Indiana: “Coach Mike Woodson is preaching his pro-style offense . He’s been there, he knows what it takes to get there, just preaching that pro-style offense and really his development, how he developed his forwards and have his players trust in him on and off the court.” https://www.zagsblog.com/2021/08/01/class-of-22-montverde-academy-forward-malik-reneau-announces-top-7-schools/

  16. Gabbi Jenkins Joins Hoosiers as Volunteer Assistant Coach A familiar name is coming back in a coaching role as Indiana Softball head coach Shonda Stanton announced career stolen bases record holder Gabbi Jenkins will return as a volunteer assistant coach. For Jenkins her final season in Bloomington as a player was a memorable one. The senior hit .331 for the season and stole 24 bases, in the process setting the Hoosiers all-time record for career stolen bases with 96. Jenkins led the conference with 18 doubles on the season to set a new Indiana program record for single season doubles. Jenkins hit her first career home run in walk off fashion to beat Penn State and added two more home runs on the season. Jenkins earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors following the Hoosiers series with Ohio State in which she hit .714 with 10 hits. "Gabbi is the ultimate Hooiser with her love, gratitude, and passion for her teammates, staff and Indiana University," IU head coach Shonda Stanton said. "She played a tremendous role in the growth of our program, and we are excited she desires to continue to impact and connect our past, present, and future success. Gabbi is unmatched in terms of character, academic achievement, competitive excellence and service, making her a tremendous addition to our staff." Jenkins was selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team, All-Defensive Team and NFCA All-Region. She earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors as well as a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District selection. "To step into a role where I get to learn from and serve with some of the best in the game is a privilege," Jenkins said. "I have seen what it looks like for this staff to invest in my journey empowering and equipping me for my days beyond the field and I am eager to invest that right back into this program as we chase the goals we have for Indiana Softball." Jenkins, who has an undergraduate degree from IU in Elementary Education and is working towards a degree in Educational Leadership, earned recognition earlier this year as the Indiana Athletics female nominee for the Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award.

  21. Final stats from the Top 60 Camp. Today was a tournment format with the top 4 teams squaring off. The Hawks team that included Banks, Iwuchukwu, Reneau and Bona were the overall winners of the event. As I mentioned above, neither Bona nor Isaiah Collier have an IU offer. We watched Collier in several games this past month but his performance in this event certainly wasn't eye popping. Both Noah Clowney and Bona were named to the camp's all-star team. 22. A little trivia. If you don't think Montverde Academy is a tough place to get playing time it had a total of 7 kids drafted and 4 of them were in the first round: Cade Cunningham - #1, Scottie Barnes - #4, Moses Moody - #14, and Day’Ron Sharpe #29! Currently we have offers out to 3 Montverde kids: Jalen Hood-Schifino, Vincent Iwuchukwu and Malik Reneau.
