From Eric Bossi's mailbag in response to the quesion -- Who does Indiana have a shot with? I've been impressed with what Mike Woodson has been in able to do on the recruiting trail since taking over at Indiana. He put together a very well liked staff, navigated the transfer portal, pulled a big time 2021 guy in Tamar Bates and is off to a good start in 2022 with CJ Gunn and Kaleb Banks. Nobody does a better job on the Indiana beat than our friends at Peegs.com so I'd always trust what they have to say first. But, you asked me the question and I would probably go with combo guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, big man Noah Clowney and combo forward Brice Sensabaugh. I personally saw Woodson and his staff devoting a lot of time to Hood-Schifino during July and the Hoosiers have made the top five for one of the country's top two-way guards. Clowney appears to be pretty tight with assistant coach Yasir Rosemond and he's set to visit campus during August. As for Sensabaugh, he really burst onto the scene during June and July and is a really unique player given his 6-foot-6, 240 pound or so frame, explosive athleticism and love for letting jumpers fly from deep. Like Clowney, he's already got an official visit locked in. Indiana is still the type of program where if they make a top five or lock in a visit with a prospect, you have to give them a good chance so that's why those three stand out to me.

Supreme Court justice won't block IU vaccine mandate WASHINGTON — Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett on Thursday refused to block a plan by Indiana University to require students and employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Barrett’s action came in response to an emergency request from eight students, and it marked the first time the high court has weighed in on a vaccine mandate. Some corporations, states and cities have adopted vaccine requirements for workers or even to dine indoors, and others are considering doing so. The students said in court papers that they have “a constitutional right to bodily integrity, autonomy, and of medical treatment choice in the context of a vaccination mandate.” They wanted the high court to issue an order barring the university from enforcing the mandate. Seven of the students qualify for a religious exemption. College officials across the country have struggled with whether to require vaccinations, with some schools mandating them and others questioning whether they have legal authority to do so. Similar lawsuits against student vaccine requirements have been filed in other states. The court’s newest justice rejected the plea without even asking the university for a response or getting her colleagues to weigh in. Justices often act on their own in such situations when the legal question isn’t particularly close. Barrett handles emergency matters from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, which includes Indiana. A three-judge federal appeals court panel, including two judges appointed by former President Donald Trump, was one of two lower courts to side with Indiana University and allow it to require the vaccinations, even as legal proceedings continue. The plan announced in May requires roughly 90,000 students and 40,000 employees on seven campuses to receive COVID-19 vaccinations for the fall semester. Students who don’t comply will have their registration canceled and workers who don’t will lose their jobs. The policy does have religious and medical exemptions, but exempt students must be tested twice a week for the disease. The school recently announced that for now, everyone, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask indoors while on campus.

And between pitches maybe the catcher can listen to a little classic rock music. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on Thursday approved allowing the use of one-way electronic communication devices for the purpose of calling pitches and plays. The rule goes into effect for the 2021-22 academic year. Examples of what could be implemented next season include teams being allowed to use an electronic display board from the dugout that shows a numerical code to call pitches and/or defensive plays. Teams also can use a one-way in-ear communication device that would be limited for use from the dugout to the catcher. Several conferences, including the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten, Pac-12, Southeastern and Sun Belt in 2021, have experimented with in-ear communication and other one-way electronic communication devices to call pitches from the dugout the past four seasons.
