Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD
kreigh8 replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can we please start with our own players? Convince Frank and Race to stay, those are two I'd really hate to lose -

If Woodson was going to be the guy after Masshole day, why not make this move earlier in the week before the entire roster enters the portal? Not saying the players wouldn't have entered regardless, but why leave them floating in the wind without that information -

That's fair, just seems odd. I truly hope Woodson can find his own Martelli to put on his staff. My fear with Woodson all along was just the lack of experience with the college game - it still basketball, but recruiting is a different beast -

Who was on deck? In all seriousness I hope this works out for the Hoosiers. We'll never know, but I'd love to know how far down this was on Dolson's list -
I really don't read much into the shenanigans pregame or postgame - but Arkansas hit one three all game and scored 72 points. I'm not sure how you couldn't like Muss over Archie. It's telling how bad Archie was and appeared to be incredibly restrictive in his philosophy to the detriment of the players. Justin Smith has 14 rebounds - 11 offensive! Not my first choice, but I'd feel quite happy if Muss went to IU.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

Unless there are APR issues and you can't force a guy out like Archie couldn't.... -
6 players in the portal! I'm really hoping for Stevens, but I'm inclined to think that's not happening with how many players have entered the portal. If Dolson really was going to land him I'd like think he'd had informed the players that he was coming and just was a matter of timing with the conclusion of the NBA season, or whenever Stevens was going to resign. The roster is going to have some Crean first 3 season vibes to it at the rate things are going. Ready for this IU nightmare to end. I'm not a patient person by nature, but this coach search and exodus is getting absurd.

Appreciate the info. And appreciate you sharing what you hear. Don't let the criticism get you down. Can't speak for everyone but I think people are just frustrated with the last 5 years and the last 20+ years that when good news doesn't happen they lash out. -

If I'm to entertain the thought of Stevens to IU, would the plan for Stevens to finish the season with the Celtics? Heaven forbid they were to make the playoffs, that seems like a long wait. Beyond Leal and Galloway who've stated their intentions to stay, would IU have much of a roster left if Stevens was to finish his NBA season. By that time, I'd doubt much of the talent in the portal would be left either. If it were indeed Stevens, I'd take the one year hit as I'd be more confident in the long term, but the timing for 2021 with college bball free agency, wouldn't exactly be optimal. Just my take, but I've officially been drawn back in on the Stevens talk. Hoping it works out better than the last time. -
Where did the 27th announcement date come from? More speculation? If it were to be Brad Stevens can we assume that the 27th coaching announcement wouldn't be happening? Been out of the loop here a bit.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but with Franklin in the portal I think it's now at 99.99%, if it wasn't already there, that TJD is leaving no matter who IU gets as coach. From what I recall they were pretty close and I'd assume TJD having a foot out the door influenced Franklin to pursue greener pastures. Next year just got a whole lot worse unless this new coach can win big on the transfer market.

I wonder if that type of showing would finally get the Big10 to make an adjustment to their style of play. I saw the commissioner is a former Grand Canyon bball player so he has a hoops background. I wouldn't hold my breath on it, but the longer the national title drought continues the more urgency their will be on an adjustment I'd like to think. Wishful thinking?

Jalen Suggs and Drew Timme help. Suggs as a freshman is far and away a better PG than what we have on our roster.
-
When the NCAA makes points of emphasis like "freedom of movement" at the beginning of the year, does the Big10 just prioritize their own things? I've got to think that's one of the biggest criticisms of Big10 play is just how much physicality there is, off the ball and on. I always sort of roll my eyes when those points of emphasis get called early in the non-conf as typically those don't really matter when Big10 play starts.

Going out on a limb here, Gonzaga would have killed this year's Hoosiers. You have to play nearly perfect, and you certainly can't miss shots.

I'll bite. At least for me it's not about those coaches being excellent or not, it's a sign that none of the top targets out there could be enticed by IU in 2021. Maybe it's seeing it through crimson colored glasses, but if we're down that far on that list, it's a sign of how must luster has been taken away from IU basketball. This has been mostly fan conjecture though as beyond Stevens, I'm not sure many of us know where Dolson is looking at this point.

His run for president will likely occupy a lot of his funds, alright, alright, alright

I missed most of the first half, but is Arkansas and Texas Tech playing this game under the philosophy that the refs can't foul everyone out? They are getting after each other, no? Looks like a Big10 game to me
-
That charge call was awful, but I've also seen college officials going more the route of NBA refs and calling a shooting foul only when a shot misses. I hope that's not becoming a thing, a foul is a foul, so call it and not wait to see if the shot doesn't go in. Getting off my soap box now
-
That ref just decide on a call after thinking about it after blowing his whistle? What in the world was that?

If Jesus could be an assistant we'd really have something cooking. He can't hit a curveball, but he might be able to cure our shooting woes like he cured the lepers

Candidate Thread: Porter Moser
kreigh8 replied to Henryville Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I know one thing, Porter Moser would get IU to play hard for 40 minutes. Most enjoyable game I've seen all year, they are so well coached. -
I think it's a fair question to ask if he could recruit enough to compete at a high enough level night in and night out at IU and the Big10. But man watching them on defense swarm and harass Illinois would have me at least optimistic if he were hired, but that overall record is a ? mark for me.
