A name that isn't in the college ranks but who is a good coach and wanted to coach college is Mark Jackson. He did well developing a young Golden State team. Recruiting would be a question and he would need sound assistants to help with that. Just a thought.

While I get what you are saying and I want Stevens as much as anyone else, it wouldn't be a bust if he says no. We can still upgrade from Crean and it's not a bust. Guys like Archie Miller, Tony Bennett, and Fred Hoiberg may or may not come but all clear upgrades and none a bust.

I'm sure this will be used by every coach who negatively recruits against us. Just another mark against the program, this time it's from within. Remember, Crean recruits families so she is part of the program. It's not good and shouldn't have happened in a public manner. What you post on Facebook and other social media is important. I know my employer checks social media before making a hire and have bypassed candidates bc of it. So to simply say what people post on social media isn't important and doesn't matter is misguided.

I think Stevens is a grand slam. I think Marshall is a homerun. However I think Marshall is now set at WSU after his raise and extension. Archie Miller would be a good choice. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Maui misery thread. Consolation game vs ST Johns
Feathery replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
St Johns is absolutely terrible. There is no chance we lose this game. If by some miracle we do, then we are way worse than anyone thought... -
They can be released but most will wait for the new coach to be hired first.

Said in the Spring we needed Gregg Marshall. Still believe Crean isn't the answer.

Big Ten hasn't looked good so far outside of MSU and IU. Maryland looks very beatable.

I don't think a great season wins back the fans. Most fans I know are eyeing next season as his make or break year. i do think a good year helps with recruiting and we need to have a great year bc 2017 is a huge class in state. Lots of talent close to home that like IU.

Rabjohns tweeted that he was measured 6'10" in shoes recently. Put some muscle on him and we will have a solid Big Ten post player.
-
I think you are forgetting the front court of Zeller/Warford as being the best. We will have a drop off next season bc of the caliber of players we will lose/likely lose. Even if we land some more quality talent we will be losing veteran talent in Yogi and likely Troy and getting freshmen. I do agree reloading allows for consistency and I hope we have a good year and land some more talent. Go Hoosiers.

State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?
Feathery replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think ratings matter to an extent. I think you have to take style of play into consideration. Big Baby was a McD All American but he would have been terrible playing in a fast paced style game in and game out. Also, coaches need to figure out of the kid is mature enough to work hard and keep their nose clean. Jereme Richmond was a 5 star that couldn't stay out of trouble in high school or after and actually saw his star start to fall before getting to college. On the flip side a lower rated recruit who is a great athlete and has a great work ethic may be a better fit. Oladipo and Rodney Carney are a couple of examples. -
Indiana Hoosiers/Golden State Warriors
Feathery replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As a life long Warrior fan and watching them a lot last season, they are not thin up front but they rarely played more than 1 big at a time. Nevertheless the defensive principles and tactics that they displayed all season are what Crean needs to establish with his college teams. Agree with you on Crean saying he wants to run and gun and not seeing it. The best way to play up and down is by locking down defensively and getting out on the break. It seems more often or not after a made basket we are sprinting down the court trying to beat the defense down the court. I also think the lack of defense has been a key reason consistency hasn't been achieved during his tenure. The lack of defense has also created a ceiling on how far his teams can go. Crean will never win a championship with subpar defenses. The vast majority of national champions since Kenpom started his advanced stats website, have had top 10 defensive efficiencies. The Warriors have shown you can play championship caliber defense, even being small and at a much higher level. -
IU leads SI projected offensive ranking
Feathery replied to southsidehoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't listen to talking heads for predictions bc I refuse to lower what expectations should be. A roster like this one should be a Big Ten Title and at least an Elite 8. There are not 8 rosters in the country better than ours. -
IU leads SI projected offensive ranking
Feathery replied to southsidehoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We are starting 3 McD All Americans at PG, SG, and C. That doesn't say dark horse to me. That says deep tourney run and conference championship. I just hope we get the D fixed bc offensively we will be fun to watch. -
Crean wants to play an NBA style and we don't have much depth up front. This is very similar to Golden State last year. Was watching highlights of the Warriors and they are #1 in the NBA in offensive and defensive efficiency. I hope Crean has been studying their defensive philosophy and principles and implementing them this offseason/preseason.

ESPN article on Crean 'feeling the heat'
Feathery replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I fully expect Crean back for next season. Things would have to implode this season for him to get canned. I'm looking at next season as the season to make or break him. We look to be taking a dip in talent for next season. A down year and his low buyout will see him out the door. Then again, maybe he surprises us this year, win the Big Ten and makes and Final Four. We have the talent to do that. If that happens I expect Glass to give him an extension and in moronic fashion put a huge buyout in there again. -
IU leads SI projected offensive ranking
Feathery replied to southsidehoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We should be explosive offensively. If we can somehow figure out how to play defense, then the year could be special. -
I like the commitment and I like the timing. The kid is a top 100 talent and if we whiff on the elite McD kids, then we still got a top 100 kid with quality upside. There is no downside to this. I want a consistant winner and we need this type of player to be a consistant winner. If a kid like Scruggs is scared to come to IU bc a top 100 kid already committed, then we don't want him anyway. True elite players won't shy away bc of this commitment and it adds quality depth. I've been a Crean critic for years. While I see some roster issues, I think we need to relax and wait to see how 2016 finishes up.
-
That's what I thought as well
-
A big scoring PG, sounds like exactly what we needed. Get him in the strength and condition program and let him develop. Anyone know about his defense?
-
Lock this recruitment up Crean. We need a very solid class or it could get rough next season.
-
Give them a 4 year ban to all post season tournaments. Reduce their scholarships by 5 over the next 4 years and call it a day. If they do vacate their titles, then I will laugh at the poor luck of the Illini. Just like when USC was stripped of theirs, a new champion wasn't named.

I see what you're saying but $700,000 is far greater than what college costs. These kids, if they aren't 1-done will get a couple years to try and make it pro. Which means they will have $1-$1.5 million to go to college if needed. Like I said the kids that do this have no interest is school or education. Which means make it pro, low paying job, welfare, learn a trade. I'd rather have $1.5 million in the bank, be 21 years old and trying to figure out what to do, than be broke working at McD's. I do think there is a motive to get these guys signed and as I said earlier there will be some fine print. This guy probably has ties to a sports agency or is starting his own. This is his way of immediately being able to sign the top kids coming out of high school within the rules. So he will get a return on his investment and he has a vested interest in these kids succeeding. The competition will be vs euro teams, which could be solid. Do you think play vs Jordan Hulls and co would be less competition than playing UMBC? I'm sure they could get some high caliber Canadian teams to play them as well.
-
Why would a parent be a moron to let their kid make 700k-millions? College will always be there for those who want it. Most of the kids that will do this have no interest in college or education. I'm all for them making some money and being productive instead of sitting in line for welfare. I'd hope the team would get ahold of them and promote financial advisors to help manage their money.
