Did Alcorn State go down to the loca YMCA and get guys for this team? They have guys that have beer guts on them.....smh
-
I was thinking the same. I visited the Illini board and one of their mods is convinced that once they are healthy, they will beat IU. Sadly I couldn't even come up with a valid arguement to why he was wrong.
-
It's coaching man. Crean wants to push the ball and the team will have more turnovers bc of it. I truly believe he doesn't have the technical/tactical acuity to teach defense at a championship level. This team reminds me of the Oliver Purnell Clemson team that was so fun to watch but imploded in the ACC and missed the NCAA tournament.
-
Those are 2 really big IFs.
-
But he worked on it before the game....lol.....problem is he doesn't know how to teach proper defense.
-
With the roster we have on paper, what would our preseason rank be if Izzo was coaching? I know my answer and I think it's very telling where we were ranked.
-
This is very telling in my opinion. You don't make that change unless you know the fans will react poorly to Crean. That's a positive step by the administration and gives me confidence that when the time is right a change will be made.
-
I thought they would be starting from the beginning of the season.
-
love the sellout crowd.
-
Lol. Well played.

IU is a 33 point favorite. This will be a snoozer and tell us nothing about any improvements made. I will watch but anything less than a complete blowout will be a disappointment. The Duke and ND games are the only ones that really matter before conference now.

New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?

Archie's record in the A10 and Sean's record in the A10 would say otherwise. -
New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?

Here is the problem I have with that arguement. If the A-10 and PAC12 don't count, what conference championships do? We aren't poaching from another Big Ten team. The SEC is dominated by UK. The ACC is Duke and UNC, Bennett at Virginia has done well in 2 seasons but isn't doing what Miller is doing back when he was in the Pac12. The Big12 is dominated by Kansas. So if not a guy who wins a lot like Miller, then who? I know Stevens is the guy, but for the sake of the debate who is the guy that has proven it better than Miller? -

He has a win % over 70%. That would say he can coach. He has 6 conference titles. That says he can coach. He got beat twice to Wisconsin, against Bo Ryan's best teams ever. Lost close as well. The fact he is always a threat to make a run is exactly the type of coach IU needs. Someone to hang conference banners and someone who is a threat to make a run. Remember Bill Self was Bucknell Bill until he finally made the fina four. Now he is seen as one of the best coaches in college. As soon as Sean Miller makes a final four or wins a Natty he will be seen in the same light as Self. -

New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?

Harbaugh could have had any NFL that would have been open. It was Michigan or NFL. It didn't matter that he was leaving SF. People need to stop being scared of not getting the guy. Sack up, make a move and go strong for a top condidate. If Stevens says no then go get another top coach. Just have to offer the money and IU will get a great coach. -

Harbaugh was the only Harbaugh option for Michigan. The interim AD was actually referring to him as UNICORN during the process bc they didn't know if they could get him or not. They still did their homework and it was rumored that Les Miles would be next of Harbaugh said no. Some would say Les would be an awesome backup plan. But the idea of Les Miles was very divided among Michigan fans. Les isn't viewed as being on the up and up if you will, both professionally and personally. He had an affair with another coaches wife, while an assistant at Michigan. Harbaugh literally was the only choice that was going to unite the fanbase. The AD did a ton of work behind the scenes getting alumni and those close to Harbaugh to sell him on how badly the university of Michigan needed and wanted him. Jims dad, Tom Brady, and a number of former teammates were all talking to him and supporting the idea of "coming home". His parent actually moved from Wisconsin to Ann Arbor to basically have the majority of his family close again. This is the type of work that Glass will have to coordinate to get Stevens. Stevens isn't an alum but grew up an IU fan. Glass would need to find those connected to the university that also have a good relationship to Brad. Being from Indiana, he surely has family and friends that could work on him about how great it would be "to come home". -
If people want to boo, then do it when they announce the head coach before the game starts. That makes it perfectly clear who is getting the boo. Then cheer the team on the rest of the game. If Crean gets the boo every home game it will make it perfectly clear to the AD/administration that the fans want a change and where the change needs to be made.
-
He wanted to coach St Johns but they hired Chris Mullen instead.
-
I know some very successful surgeons In the area do not like Crean and want a change. I also think Fred Glass is a smart man, my wife has known the family since childhood. I don't have inside info, but I've taken Glass's support of Crean as keeping the recruiting going. He isn't going to cut the legs out from under the HC and will make the move when the time is right. He is smart enough to be supportive and be supportive up until the change is made. If the boosters and fans are calling for it, and we struggle the rest of the season, then it will happen.

New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?

Miller has Midwest ties from his time at Xavier. He knows the recruiting landscape. There were some grumbling a in Arizona about him not getting over the hump to a final four. But he might see recruiting as easier in Indiana, instead of fighting the California schools in Cali and it seems like they go head to head with Kansas a lot bc they have to recruit nationally to stay at the top. If IU were to hire a guy from Bellermine, Hoosiernation would implode. He may be good, I know zero about him, but there are so many more proven coaches that could be had. -

Stevens/Miller was a good portion of conversation among the guys at Thanksgiving dinner. Which spurred me to look these guys up. Arizona to IU is basically a lateral move at the moment, at best. When I saw Millers salary and thought, man if IU would pay him $5 mil plus, it's a no brainer to leave Zona for Indiana. If we are willing to pay, then I think IU can get basically anyone they want. -
New Coach Salary And Criteria...$5 million?
Feathery replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would think $5 million should be the minimum base salary. Add in bonuses, camps, etc. if they can go up on the base salary then that's even better for the prospects of getting a true elite coach. Offer Brad Stevens $5...no...how about $6....no..... How about $7. Basically make it happen if it's financially feasible. -
Was looking at coaching salaries... http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/ For IU to get a top guy currently in college or Brad Stevens, it looks like $5,000,000 a year base salary should do the trick, (edit: $5 mil should be the starting point). Besides Cal, Self, Pitino, and Coack K, $5 million is well above what the rest of the coaches make. Add in fertile recruiting grounds and new/remodeled facilities and it's a prime job. Doesn't matter what the roster would look like year 1. Though get a great coach and I think the recruits stay and minimal losses to transfers. IU should have that in their budget with all the BTN money and increase attendance to football. It's the flagship program of Indiana Athletics. Pay the big bucks and let's make a statement. So what's the criteria? Is it just NCAA tourney success? Conference success? Both? What do you guys think? For me it's conference success. The NCAA is a crapshoot, but sustained conference success will lead to higher NCAA seeding and better opportunities for deep runs. After doing some research and seeing what coaches are making. Here is my list of top 3 candidates. They have varying degrees of NCAA success, but are consistently at the top or towards the top of their conference. 1. Brad Stevens ($3.66 million currently) college win % of .772. Now he NBA experience which would raise his recruiting ability. 3 horizon league titles, 2 NCAA championship appearances, from Indiana. Never finished lower than 3rd in the horizon or A-10. 2. Sean Miller ($3.07million currently) he has a current win % of .774. He has 3 A-10 championships, 3 Pac12 championships, 1 A-10 tournament championship, 1 Pac12 tournament championship. 6 Sweet 16s and 4 Elite 8 appearances. 3. Gregg Marshall ($3.3 million currently) current buyout is only $500,000. Career win % of .715. He won the Big South conference 6 times, Big South tournament 7 times, Missouri Valley conference 3 times, and MVC tournament once. Finished outside the top 3 in conference 2 times in 17 years, those were his first 2 season at WSU. He has 1 final four and 1 sweet 16, while not great it's actually very good for the conference he is representing. I value conference success more than NCAA success. What do you guys think? Any names you like better? If so, please state who, why, and some background on the coach. There are a lot of quality coaches out there.

I actually think he is going to be a solid piece as an upperclassman. Maybe next year. Same with OG. I like both of their games. Just need to get pay the freshman learning curve.
