I get its about this years resume. but you can't just pick Duke and say it's a similar situation to IU. That's why I point to previous seasons, the mood of the fanbase towards their coach, along with the expectations for the season etc. But glad we can agree with your last comment, fire Tom Crean.
-
Anytime you need a reminded just call. :) The point still remains for this Duke team. Who cares who they have beaten, they just won a national title. They can lose in the first round of the NCAA and be ready for a final four run next season. That's not happening under Crean at IU.
-
Bc Coach K is an elite coach and can out coach his opposition. Similar to Izzo come March. This is a "down year" for Duke but they are still talented for sure. The point wasn't Duke can't make a run, it's in a good Crean year he isn't what K is in a down year.
-
The difference is Duke just came off a national title and is a natural rebuild and absolutely dominated IU. Crean in 17 season hasn't done what Coach K did last season or came close to what K has done over the past 5 seasons. That's the entire point. The fanbase wants Crean gone bc we want to be elite again. Duke in a rebuild year is currently ranked #20. IU with one of its best rosters under Crean is in and out of the top 25. That's a huge gap to fill. Coach K has warned cache with his fanbase bc of pat success. Crean has earned a hot seat bc of his past failures.

I wish. That would win the conference. It would keep Crean around but I'm more interested in winning championships than who the coach is. I thought we would get through January unbeaten. Now I think we lose @ Wisconsin. I also see at least 5 more losses to end the season at 12-6 or worse.
-
The way is the coach wants to win and the team is better without Blckmon. If he shows he can play defense at a decent level, then he will start bc his scoring is great.
-
I agree. Let him bring scoring off the bench next season. If he can prove himself defensively, then move him back into the starting lineup. Newkirk Johnson OG Hartman/Davis Bryant

I think everyone is waiting until February, the Iowa game in particular. We should win every game until then. Sadly I could see us lose 7 of our last 9. Even if we go 4-5 over the last 9, and then flame out in the BTT/NCAAs the cries for him to be gone will be loud. Crean is essential been given a lead for the conference title with this pathetic schedule. MSU has lost 3x, Purdue 2x, Maryland once. Iowa has surprised so far but if they are the competition for the conference IU should win. It's definitely setting up for Crean to prove his doubters wrong or bomb out and leave.

I understand why you say this team is more athletic. Cody was athletic but other than running the court his athleticism didn't always translate to the court. I still remember him backing down post players and getting so low and then blocked going up.bi always attributed it to coaching than Cody not being athletic.

Yogi is natural attrition due to exhausting eligibility. We have Johnson and Blackmon back next season. Newkirk has been here all season and will know the system. So we aren't overhauling the backcourt. i don't expect any freshman backcourt player to start. We are finally is a position to let freshmen sit and learn and not be thrown to the wolves. That's basically what I mean by roster stabilization. There is always turnover in roster in the college game, but to let guys learn through practice and a few minutes here and there is ideal.
-
Crean has a history of flaming out and having teams peak early. This was a huge complaint while at Marquette and he has only had 1 team at IU that played well in feb/March. That was a team with Verdell Jones on it. I hope this team finishes strong. If they do Crean can win his 2nd Big Ten title in 4 years. The roster looks to be stabilizing. Maybe, just maybe we can put together multiple seasons of strong play.
-
I'm not basing it off one one game. I'm asking bc of Creans history of having teams peak in January and fading in Feb/March. He has only had a couple teams in his career not peak too soon. So I was asking, could that have been our peak bc it was a tremendous game and we likely won't replicate it.

After the Ohio State game I wondered if this was as good as it would get for IU this season. It reminded me of the Maryland game at IU last season, where IU beat the #13 team by 19. The team didn't play at the same level the rest of the season. That game was in January as well as the game with Ohio State this season. I wanted to see how the team played vs a weak Minnesota team. Was the OSU game a turning the corner or was it a perfect storm of us peaking and OSU being young? After the way the team didn't play well vs a terrible Minnesota, I tend to think we have peaked. The schedule is very soft but I see the February swoon on the horizon. What do you guys think?

Wilson is the best IU can wish for. The standard for football and basketball are totally different.

Indiana vs OSU Post-Game Thread
Feathery replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Just finished watching the game. This was the Indiana team I expected to see from the beginning of the year. Meaning blowing out inferior competition. Great job by the team and coaches. It never gets old watching Ohio State losing to Indiana. -
I think winning the conference outright was a major success. It was followed by major disappointment by struggling down the stretch and then losing to Cuse. This year is the first year it's financially viable to fire him. The pressure has been on but unlike previous years, this year it's a financial possibility.
-
While I see what you are saying, I don't think it will come down to overall record for the season. My opinion is he needs to win the conference or make a final four to save his job. Even if that's not it, struggling down the stretch and an early exit in the dance is enough to see Glass pull the trigger on a change.
-
Doubt it. Things will be fine until Feb. Looking at the schedule we will play sub .500 ball to finish the schedule, 4-5 in the last 9. Barring a run in the Big Ten Tourny or NCAA tournament, the seat will be very very hot. Our freshmen are playing well and haven't hit the "freshmen wall" yet. If Crean has figured out a way to build towards the end of the season, then you are definitely right. He will be back. I'm just banking on history, that the team will be ground down the later part of the schedule and the teams we face will be better as well.
-
He is a solid player but he can't be the best player on the team.
-
I've seen this song and dance with Crean before. It's like I'm stuck in ground hog day.
-
Lol. No. We still haven't played a good team in conference. When quality teams show up on the schedule the losses will come. Also, it's January and Crean has historically done wel in January. Come back in Febuary when the swoon is in effect.

Except Freitag actually won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! I'm not saying Freitag should have stayed. I'm saying Glss recognized that even though he had a National Champion coach, a change needed to be made. I think he can see the same in a much more visible product, IUBB. To be honest, Crean and Davis had similar levels of success coaching here. Both won a conference title. Davis actually made a championship game. While Crean has won a little more and hit his ceiling at a Sweet 16. Both turned off the Indiana high school coaches. Davis recruited the south and Crean is focusing on the East. Both good men, both not good enough basketball coaches to be the head coach of Indiana.
