  1. I wouldn't be so sure. I don't buy him going to Vandy but I don't buy him being "their guy" either. The man still hasn't got past the sweet 16. He is in the Steve Lavin UCLA territory right now. Eventually he has to get to a final four. I think he has 2 years to do it or he will be gone. Bill Self was on the chopping block even though he was winning conference titles bc he was known as Bucknell Bill (couldn't get it done in March). He reached the end of his rope but got the run he needed and stayed. Lavin couldn't break through and got fired after 7 seasons that included a Pac10 championship, 1 elite 8, and 5 sweet 16s. If if you are an elite school and you have the consistant conference success, then a final four is required. If Crean can't reach a final four in 10 seasons at Indiana, he needs to go.
  2. Agreed. That's why IF he leaves, I'd feel good about it. It means IU forced him out bc they have their guy. Which is what we all want anyway.
  3. If he leaves, then Godspeed to him. I wish him well and thank him for his service the past 8 years. The program is at a point where we can get a stellar coach. Stevens, Donovan, Bennett, and Marshall should be the first calls made. If Stevens says yes, then it's the only call needed.
  4. I understand what your saying. But he has zero future as a basketball player. Why not get a free degree from IU. Maybe be a manager or something to stay connected to the basketball team. Maybe have a future as a coach or just go get a job with your free Indiana degree.
  5. If I'm not mistaken Priller can stay at IU, have his school paid for and not be on the basketball team. Freeing up a basketball scholarship. Am I misunderstanding the 4 year scholarship?
  6. By making them employees and skipping the scholarship, Title IX doesn't apply. If the university wants to employee and men's football and basketball program, then there isn't a law that requires them to employ a female counterpart. Schools would have to determine what they can afford to keep and what they would have to get rid of. Jay Bilas works under the model that the power conference schools make enough $ that they can pay the basketball and football players and keep all other sports viable. Lets be honest, mid and low majors aren't signing top tier prospects and could keep the scholarship model, should they choose too. Also, it would behoove sports like men's soccer to stay on a scholarship or partial scholarships as they are set up now. They don't make enough $$ for the university to say pay is over a scholarship. The scholarship is worth more.
  7. Who cares if a kid is in college. Why should his stage in life determine how much money he makes? The value they bring to the university is far greater than the scholarship being provided. There definitely needs to be a cap bc of competitive balance. I K ow people who were on full ride scholarships who had jobs that paid more than what these "student athletes" are getting as a stipend. My my personal opinion is make them employees and a salary. Let them pay for their education and skip the scholarship all together. The school can give a discount if they give other employees discounts. Will this have an effect on non revenue sports? Possibly. But there is enough money to pay these players and keep the other sports alive.
  8. The kids are maiming the schools millions of dollars. Pay them a salary and let them go to school. Let's be honest a scholarship is a school paying itself from one account to another. id be interested in having the Pro sports teams form relationships with the college programs/conferences and create a true minor league for basketball that would cut out the shady agents and middle me. That direct players to certain programs.
  9. the biggest leap is usually from freshman year to sophomore year. How much OG, Morgan, and Bryant progress will determine how good this team will be.
  10. Before the season I wanted a Big Ten Title and an Elite 8. We got a championship and came a game away from what I wanted as a fan months ago. Given the terrible draw I'm ok with that. Before the year I also was saying this is a 2 year process. We were set up to be good this year and we were. Next season is the one that is the decider. Will we falter like we did after the last sweet 16 or do we sustain and have consistency? If we falter, then I can see a move being made. If we are a upper echelon/big ten champions, then Crean is moved further away from the hot seat. As for me unless we make a move and land Stevens, Donovan, or Marshall, I would rather keep Crean at this point.
  11. If Troy returns: Johnson Blackmon OG Troy Bryant That's a top 10 team preseason. If Troy goes pro: Newkirk Blackmon Johnson OG Bryant That's a top 10/15 team preseason. We should have the same expectations next season that we had going into this year. Compete and win the Big Ten, make a run in March.
  12. Marshall has averaged a championship a year over his 16ish years of head coaching. He knows what he is doing. His track record has shown it isn't a Van Vleet/Baker thing.
  13. Looks like Groce/Illini are having some troubles off the court. With all the losing going on how much longer does Groce survive? Nunn arrested is the latest one.
  14. Yep. After looking at it some more I still think we need to go to an Elite 8 if Johnson is back. We have Final Four talent and a week ago I was hoping the 1 seed we would get was UNC. Styles make fights and UK/UNC will run with IU. Having UK and UNC along the oth also keeps the guys focused. Just got to be ready for Chattanooga and then see how the chips land.
  15. The committee doesn't go by Kenpom, they use the RPI and have for years.
  16. Can you not see the difference of losing an opening game of a tournament to a bubble team and losing in a title game against a 1 seed? There is a difference and is shows the importance of the conference tourney. People are just being bitter right now. The issue is Tom Crean pissing down his leg and not using his timeouts to stop the Mich run. The UK IU is purely about $$$. If IU beats Michigan we are at least a 4 seed. IU makes the fina vs MSU and we are a 3 seed as a worst case. IU lost and left themselves exposed to the committee.
  17. So can Crean get past the Sweet 16 finally? How about survive the weekend? I can't see the Crean needs to go talk dying down after this draw, unless a miracle run happens.
  18. Maybe they did. They also took into account getting blown out by a mediocre Duke team and bad teams in UNLV and Wake. To be honest Indiana has themselves to blame.
  19. No we lost the OPENING game. Virginia lost in the championship game to a 1 seed. Losing the first game is a BIG deal fellas. Purdue played its way up to a 5 seed imo. They were lower coming into the week.
  20. I'm just telling you their philosophy is to play uptempo. It's their preference. They CAN play at a slower pace effectively.
  21. This is why the conference tournament is so important and people were upset that we lost the opening game as a 1 seed.
  22. UNC wants to play uptempo. Virginia doesn't allow it. Much like Wisconsin.
  23. UNC will play with tempo. Any team that will do that gives IU a chance. Problem is I think we lose to Chatanooga.
  24. The Big Ten is down this year. Lack of respect is warranted. Losing to Michigan tanked IU.
