  1. Wow you couldnt be more wrong about Marshall. First, who gives a crap what he looks like? How superficial, shallow does one have to be to use that as a strike? Second, go look at their resumes. 18 years of championships compared to a couple. Not even close. Third, they run totally different systems. Marshall coaches championship level defense, while at a midmajor. He also has efficient offenses. Crean only coaches offense.
  2. Tournament success at a lower school doesnt show yoi can coach at a power 5 school. Look at Groce and the plethora of other coaches who made 1 run and then fet fored from bigger jobs. The thing with Marshall is he has made a final four and Sweet 16 as a midmajor but he absolutely dominates his conference filled with similar talent to him. He just gets beat in a dance. Hardly a knock on him. 18 years as a coach and 18 conference titles/conference tournament titles. Only finished outsode the top 2 in his conference a few times as well. Thats a dominating resume. Multiple top 20 defenses and effficient offensive system as well. Guy is a home run.
  3. The administration that fired his sister is gone. His other reason for saying no before was he wasnt ready for that big of a job. The man has won the ACC, he is ready for the job now. If he says no, fine, but you cant just rule him out. This isnt a Stevens/Boston Celtics situation. Its freaking Virginia, currently the 5th best program in the ACC. They are behind Duke, UNC, Cuse, Lville in prestige and importance. On a given year they could be lower than that.
  4. For me its 1. Marshall 2. Bennett 3. Tie between Archie Miller and Smith. Those guys have proven to have championship level defenses multiple times and recently. So they know how to defend todays game and have adapted well. All 4 are viable options in my opinion. IU is a better program than the ones they are at. IU will pay more and has better natural recruiting grounds to get talent from. Id pass on hoiberg bc he never has shown to coach a championship level defense, so its much like Crean. Unless I missed his top 20 defenses somewhere....
  5. Looks like Stevens has been approched and has said no. (Per an insider on another IU board). Was a longshot but at least this should put to bed the Stevens to IU dream. That shadow can move away and we can find a quality coach.
  6. I dont think Crean gets an extension. If Stevens says yes, Crean is gone. If Stevens says no, i dont know. Id still make a change but not sure what will happen. Worst case scenario is Crean gets a final year next year, but i could also see him bailing before being forced out, a la Buzz Williams.
  7. My original post was purely sarcastic.
  8. Took another lose but we are close. We are getting better, it's all bc of injuries.
  9. Glad to see people keeping this thread warm in anticipation of another loss to a fundamentally sound team, THAT PLAYS DEFENSE!!!
  10. It was after our 2 year disasterous run of off court issues and terrible play on the court. I tried sending you a pm but it says you cant recieve messages. I was using OSU as an example of a team that has good recruiting capabilities and cohod be open as soon as this year. Friend of mine is a son of a former player there. He seems to think Matta is gone barring a miracle.
  11. He could coach for another 20 years. He will leave if a good job opens that he wants. It was rumored he showed interest in us a couple years ago but Fred didnt pull the trigger. He may stay at WSU but if a UNC, UCLA, or other bkue blood come calling.....
  12. IU fans are terrified of the same types of teams.... Mike White >>>>>>>> Crean
  13. He will leave for a high major, but he said he will only leave for a school that can compete at the top of the conference. So he isnt going to go to Iowa or Bama. However, I could see him at schools like Ohio St, Indiana, Texas, UCLA, etc. He is from the Southeast, so maybe he gets closer to home if he decides he wants that.
  14. Marshall is 53. He has another 20 years of coaching left. You say young, I think inexpierenced and not qualified. Id take Marshall over thevlikes of Fife, Nored, Holtmann, and the other young pups in the coaching profession. Not saying I wouldmt support whoever is next, but they would be my first choice. Besides, its really Stevens and then everyone else.
  15. I wouodnt be shocked if there are ppl from the athletic dept on these boards and post pro Crean stuff. Sometimes thats the only explanation for a defense. He literally has done nothing to deserve suck blind loyalty, unless your job is dependent upon his. HTD cracks me up. Love the passion. Dont agree with hardly anything he says.
  16. I think for the fanbase, Glass must make a run at Stevens. Even if the answer is no, it will put it to bed finally. Stevens is casting a shadow over the program that needs removed for the next coach. Anyone thats hired will be immediately compared to Stevens, if its not put to bed. So Id expect some negative publicity if Stevens says no. But its worth doing. You never know, maybe he says yes. Put together the best package you can offer and present it.
  17. Ive already started questioning my fandom of IU. My wife asked if I wanted season tickets, and I promtly said NO because I dont want to pay for crap. I did make it to the UNC game for face value, but that was a bucketlist game for me. I know many IU fans that now just keep tabs on IU, but watch other teams like Butler and Kansas. They want to watch good basketball and watching a Crean team pisses them off.
  18. 5-6 years is probably a normal year contract. Just keep the buyout reasonable and there isnt an issue.
  19. You can LOL all you want but coaches like Greg Marshall, Archie Miller, Bryce Drew, Mike White, Chris Holtmann, Mick Cronin, and Counzo Martin have all had top 20 defenses within the past 4 years. Most of those guys have done it more than once during that time. So yes, even at FGCU he could of had a top 20 defense, if he was a quality defensive coach....Which he is not. Offense is for show, but defense wins championships. You are using injuries and going pro as excuses, sounds like Crean to me. Or to use someone in the Pac12, sounds like Lorenzo Romar 2.0....yikes. Enfield is not the answer, he is fools gold. But Im glad you enjoy watching USC basketball. There are other programs I enjoy watching bc of style of play, but that doesnt mean I think their coaches are good enough to be at IU.
  20. Glass is smart enough to get out in front of messes, that he can see. Look at the womens basketball team swift coaching change and the football team coaching change as examples. In my mind the only way Crean is back nexy year, is because the team makes a run. Now that OG is out, I highly doubt a run happens. We havent even gotten to the difficult part of the schedule yet! Lol
  21. IF a change isnt made at the end of the season, then Glass needs to go. However, I think Glass has been biding his time, not settling for mediocrity. If Stevens wanted to come, then I think Crean would have been fired a couple years ago. Glass knows he HAS to get this hire right. Now that boosters are in his ear, the Crean era is almost over. Couple more months, imo.
  22. I cant say Im impressed with Enfield to be honest. Its year 4 for him at USC, and he is 5-4 in conference this year. Pac12 is terrible and he already has 4 losses before February. I dont care that he beat a UCLA team that ranks as terrible as IU in defensive efficiency. UCLA is a fraud. I know nobody mentioned UCLA, just pointing out that its not that big of a win, imo. He has also never won his conference, ever. He had one magical run and took a pay raise to a terrible team, and in 4 years made them a middle of the pack conference team. Im big on defensive efficiency bc of the trends of the past national champions. Since 2002 every champ has been ranked in the top 21 in defensive efficiency. Here are Enfields team defensive stats: 2017: 86th 2016: 82nd 2015: 94th 2014: 112th 2013: 100th (sweet 16 FGCU) 2012: 245th looks like Crean 2.0 to me. PASS.
  23. Ive beaten Crean up about his defense, but its all about his entire style of play. While the defense is awful, the tempo Crean wants to play compounds the problem. Crean is always talking about going faster. When you go faster, you increase turnovers. Turnovers turn into easy baskets the other way and makes your defense even worse. I think he knows he isnt a good defensive coach and tries to compensate by having an offense put up big numbers shooting the 3.
  24. The buyout is not the issue and it hasnt been. His buyout isnt paid in a lump sum. It is paid out over the duration of what the contract was for, so 3 years. Also, Crean must seek new employment to get the buyout. For each dollar he earns from his new gig, its a dollar deducted from what IU has to pay him for his buyout. 4mil over 3 years is 1.33 million a year. Crean can easily get a job paying him 1.3 million at any football school. IU can basically walk away from Crean and owe him nothing. There is no reason to wait until after the buyout drops again. This is why i think Glass will not fire Crean. He will tell him he needs to find a job asap bc he wont be back, but not make anything public. Crean then becomes the next coach at Ole Miss or Oregon st. Creans saves face and IU doesnt owe him a dime.
  25. Im surprised ppl say they dont want Marshall. To me, he is a clear upgrade to Crean and its not even close. I can see arguements for not wanting him over Stevens or another candidate. Out of all the midmajor coaches he is #1. He is only leaving for a blue blood program, which he has stated. Here is a crazy stat, that makes me think Marshall is on the homerun list. In 18 years of head coaching, Greg Marshall has won 18 conference championships (regular season or tournament), 1 NIT championship, and 1 final four. The man averages a championship a year!!! I dont care what conference he is in, thats lights out. He can beat his peers with equal talent and he has done well in the NCAAs for having Midmajor talent as well. I would trade WSU last 5 seasons of March over Indiana, let that sink in. Im a believer that if he was at a blue blood program, increased talent would mean multiple final fours and a national title.
