(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Feathery replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Being right doesn’t mean you aren’t negative. I was right about Crean as well. I wasn’t thrilled with the hire but gave him a chance. Sometimes people can come across negative when they think they are being realistic. I was labeled as negative bc I was constantly on Crean the last several years. I just think it’s way too early to claiming absolutes in the Archie era, especially in recruiting. To be honest the Langford’s have been pretty open about their timeline and have stuck too it. People just get tired of people constantly claiming it’s a guarantee he goes elsewhere. Jus like people get tired of hearing he is going to IU it’s a lock. -
Yep. But they make the university enough to cover a salary and benefits. At least at the major P5 universities. Basically the only way I can see paying players/making them employees working is to create 4 super conferences and have them separate from the other divisions. Then you get into antitrust lawsuits from other schools. It really is a mess. The easiest way to fix the issue is give a path for entry to the pro’s out of high school. NBA/NFL bans all agents if they are found to have even contacted a high school or college player/family/representative prior to them declaring to go pro. Any coaches caught being dirty has a lifetime ban from college and pro basketball world wide. Get FIBA involved in the ban as well. FIFA does this in soccer already.

Make football and basketball (revenue sports) players employees of the university. Give the salaries and benefits. That would take away a ton of scholarships from a title IX point of view but it’s a way to get around it legally.

There was an error in the original reporting. Martin didn’t say that. The agent in an intra office email said he told Martin he would help get Bowen to IU if Martin could get OG and Bryant to sign with the agent when they went into the draft. OG and Bryant did not sign with that agent.

Need to add a Nebraska board to the list. -
Here is the list of clients by the agent. https://basketball.realgm.com/info/agent-client-list/Andy-Miller/14 From that list the only IU connection is Jefferies. I see a Syracuse, UNC, Texas, Villanova, Louisville, Georgetown, and Arizona among others represented on his client list.

Game Thread : Minnesota @ Indiana | 7:30EST on FS1
Feathery replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It all comes down to being able to make shots. If we struggle shooting then we could lose all 4. If we have found a groove and can make shots we can win all four. I have no expectations for the rest of our games other than playing hard. The offensive shooting woes make it too difficult to expect wins. Ideally we win the next 4, win 2 games in the BTT to get to 20 wins. Would that put us on the bubble? -
Potential starting 5 for next year, does Juwan GoPro?

My hope is the Green has turned the corner and we land Romeo. If that were to happen... PG - Green SG - Langford SF - Smith PF - Morgan C - Davis bring the freshmen along at their own pace. Plenty of minutes to go around. I do wonder how Moore will look next season. Physically he is more athletic than Davis. If he can make a huge jump, it would be a huge boost. Overall, with an improved Green and Romeo, this team is a tournament team and a top 5 conference team. Maybe even contending for the conference. MSU, OSU, Purdue all lose a ton. -
(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
Feathery replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
whats his 3pt fg% this season? Is he capable of shooting 35%+ next season from deep? -
OSU has a better team. Who cares about stars or on paper. Games aren’t won on paper. Crean had a shotgun approach to recruiting and got some stars but they do not fit together as a cohesive team. It’s why you see big swings in performance. OSU under Matta recruited well, but he also built a solid team. We are seeing the results this year under Holtmann.

I agree but not about Moore. He just isn’t good enough. He has looked lost ever time he has been out there. Archie and crew are trying to win games now, they can build Moore up in practice. Think of it as the Wisconsin model. Seems like every 2 years there is a new RS junior for Wisconsin ready to play that nobody has heard of. -
The entire roster has shooting problems. I’m just pleased when we can compete bc we are a terrible shot making team. Consistently get open looks but just not good at shooting.

(2018) PG Robert Phinisee to Cincinnati
Feathery replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was talking with a friend at work today. He was telling me that his dad went to watch Phinisee play and reported back that Phinisee is a fantastic player. We are going to love him as IU. The reason I bring this up is that his dad played basketball at Ohio St back in the day and keeps up with high school and big ten basketball still. So it’s not just a random guy watching and giving an impression. -
I fear a beat down coming. The good news is I’ll just turn the game off and enjoy doing something else.

Which will help is not be a total dumpster this season. Watching these guy play, all i can think is “wait until his guys are here”. I think the future is bright. We will have to live with the bumps until then. -

Gotcha. I just look at it as we weren’t going to have any other coaches besides one of those 2. -

No I’m comparIng any Wisky team vs Crean. He struggled vs them every time. He struggles against any team that slows it to a half court game. It’s why he would **** the bed in the tournament. If his team couldn’t run and gun and hit lots of 3’s, it was trouble. -

I doubt Crean would. Hell he lost to IPFW with a superior team. He always lost to Wisconsin. Crean needs shooters to have a prayer and we clearly do not have that. -

It’s not Archie’s fault that IU has sucked for 25 years. I understand wanting to win now, but accept the reality of the situation and enjoy the games. I truly didn’t care that we lost. I’m more into why are we losing and what can be done to fix it. To me we need some grad transfers/Juco’s and to give some handshakes at the end of the season. To me Archie is trying to make lemonade out of lemons. -

Illinois isn’t a vastly inferior team. Kenpom has IU and UI about 10 spots apart. They have lost some close games and we won. They played some healthy teams and we got some breaks. We were actually the underdog according to Vegas. Get over yourself and the Archie hate. I wanted Marshall as well, but that didn’t happen. Support the coach, it’s only year 1. No program needs any segment of the fan base being negative this early in a tenure. Poor form. -

This roster is terrible. This is why many fans wanted Crean gone earlier, before the roster became a joke. Instead we are going to wait patiently for it to be fixed. Anyone down on Archie doesn’t know basketball. His system is getting open looks. We can’t make shots. We have a roster of low IQ players. The defense will be effective once we get rolling.
