What type of results? Big Ten title? Just make the dance?

Do you think the talent and experience on the roster next year will be good enough to go dancing?

Not even close to a winnable game. It’s a well coached offensive team playing at home in the Big Ten. Vs a IU team that will be wildly inconsistent as they are learning a new system and are ranked in the 200’s on defense. The only road games on paper that are winnable will be Neb, Rutgers, Illinois, and maybe Ohio st.

We don’t have quality 3 point shooters. Getting 2 is better than getting 0

This. There has been a lot of breakdowns on defense. It’s a process.

It will be a very young team. This is definitely a 3 year rebuild, which coincides with what Archie has said from the beginning. It will take 3 years until his D is running at a optimum level. We need more players who can knock down an open 3. Hopefully we got that in the recruiting class.

This is one of the games I had down as a loss from the beginning of the season. We aren’t even a decent defensive team and Michigan can always shoot it. Add in on the road, not good odds.

This could be ugly. I’m expecting a 15-20 point loss.

Then why do you pull for IU basketball? IU has cheated and probably will continue to cheat in basketball. I think the overall point is, we have no moral high ground to stand on. IU is just cleaner than Duke, UNC, UK, KU, and Arizona If cheating is cheating, like you said, then a minor rule break is the same as FedEx boxes of cash (UK). How do you feel about Vonleh rolling around Bloomington in a new expensive car? What about players getting visa gift cards for spending money? These are the rumors about our program. Just like duffel bags of cash to UK recruits, funneled through NBA agents are rumored about Calipari. If cheating is cheating, then are you worried about Archie? His brother is caught up in this Adidas/FBI scandal. Archie was an assistant under his brother and it would be naive to think he doesn’t or didn’t know how the recruiting game was being played. If he didn’t tell on his brother to the NCAA, wouldn’t that be cheating? You told the ref in your indoor soccer game that the goal was actually good, because if you didn’t that’s cheating. You must also not want Romeo Langford. The rumors for years is that he will only go to an Adidas school. After all this Adidas/FBI scandal, you should be hesitant to get into a possible gray area with him. This post isn’t meant as an attack on you. Just trying to point out that as an IU fan, we should be careful with the moral high ground. Those in glass houses, shouldn’t throw rocks. Utlimately, I think changes need to be made to help clean up recruiting. I’ve got a lot of ideas for this but that’s for a different thread.

Didn’t a Duke player just get caught with $85k of jewelry a few years ago? Duke isn’t above board. To be honest IU probably played in the grey too. I work with former athletes and have heard stories of cars basketball players would drive, Noah Vonleh is a name I hear from players of other sports that is probably questionable.

Definitely improving by the game. Duke will be the game to see how far away we are from being good. Keep it respectable and I’ll be excited about our chances going forward.

I think we will improve this year still, especially when Hartman returns. Moving forward I think we are in a good/very good place. I do have some questions still but overall feeling good. Archie talked about how he thinks Jerome Hunter could be a big guard. If that’s the case, and he is good enough as a freshman, then you could see a lineup of PG - Green (JR)/Durham (SO) SG - Hunter (FR) SF - Smith (SO) PF - Morgan (SR) C - Davis (JR) I really like this lineup from a size/length/athleticism standpoint.

This. It will be year 3 for Archie. I expect a good year and to be dangerous in March.

You said an elite coach can win big with another coaches recruits. Final Four is winning big. I think that’s where the confusion comes from.

Archie is coaching another coaches recruits. There is zero elite talent on this roster. The only quality players are young and need experience, they aren’t the Duke/UK type young players that are NBA talents. Coach K, Izzo, Brad Stevens, Steve Kerr, Pop, Phil Jackson, Knight, and Any other elite coach is not going to win big with this group. That’s just reality. Archie is doing a good job so far....steady improvement from game to game.

Regardless of results right now, I like what I’m seeing from Archie. We have seen improvement from game to game. He is using the bench as a tool And has something competent coming out of timeouts. This is the first coaching hire since coach Knight was fired that I actually believe is the right guy. I gave all of them a chance but doubted. To me Archie gets it and will have us where we want to be, it just takes time.

Haven’t watched Scruggs play, but I do like what Al has shown so far. I would start him until someone with more talent shows enough heart to take his spot.

My expectations for year 1 is different than for the era. For this year it is to set the foundation. That goes from recruiting, style of play, and culture. I think the recruiting has set a solid base for the program moving forward. It’s been two games and I already like the half court offense better than I have since Knight. On defense there seems to be a plan but the team isn’t there yet. Which leaves the culture of the team. I heard Don Fisher say today that Archie is trying not to go crazy with the lack of pride shown by the players. Also said some players might be sent to the end of the bench and stay there. We will likely see a steady dose of the freshmen. To be honest, I’m all for it. You have to set the tone for what the culture of the program is going to be, and set that tone early. I don’t care about wins and losses in year 1, get the foundation of the program correct and build from there. Moving forward, big picture view, I expect IU to be on par with the elite programs in the country. We also need to regain our seat as the top team in our own conference. This is year 3-4 at the earliest. A rebuild is over when we make the dance, have class balance, and are set up to be consistently good. I think that starts next year at the earliest. We make the dance and add a quality, top 10 type class.

It took Crean 4 years to rebuild, then he couldn’t maintain it. I was one of those that held it against him. 3 years is all it should take for a competent coach to get IU back to the dance and to stay there.

Good luck to Garland. On to the next recruit...Romeo. This is exactly why we take Phinisee. We would be without a PG if we waited on Garland. This way we got a solid in state kid who will be very solid in the future.

Lol. You need some positivity in your life. Vandy doesn’t know. IU doesn’t know. Nobody knows. You can’t go by crystal balls be nobody knows. There is nothing wrong with hoping for the best and being positive about things. If he goes elsewhere, it doesn’t matter, we move on to the next recruit.

I think Albers got people’s hopes up about Donovan. I was a Gregg Marshall fan, but Archie was on the shortlist for sure. Very happy with the hire.

Actually, SHE may have been right. Archie was in San Francisco watching Arizona play in the tournament. Glass went there to meet him. I don’t know how the timing worked out but maybe she was right? Or Maybe she just meant Alford. Yuck.

Rabby won't for any recruitment or just the ones he is close on? I can understand him not wanting to give away a kids choice.
