  1. Unfortunately, I agree. B1G basketball forces most more skill-based coaches to change. Underwood was the ultimate spread guy when he got the Illinois gig. He would never have recruited a kid like Cockburn. He had no fit in that structure. But after watching his offense get thoroughly disrupted by B1G physicality, he went out and brought in a hammer. Completely changed what he’d always coached. Same on D. Pitino did the same thing, just unsuccessfully. The 1 really successful exception is probably Beilein. And it’s just continuing to get worse.
  2. Was just thinking about 1 of those butterfly effect sorts of things: Miller not having the space available to have the option take McKinley Wright 4 years ago, a loss no one cared about at all at the time, is about to cost him his job. And it absolutely is. Wright’s a terrific college PG. tough kid, leader, takes and makes big shots. He would have been such an upgrade over Phinisee over the last 3 years that I’m completely confident that, while he may well still be viewed as a disappointment at this point, the program would have had enough additional success that Miller wouldn’t be going anywhere. That’s how fine the line is. Just something I was thinking about.
  3. That’s a 1st round sectional game? God I miss Indy this time of year.
  4. You’re probably right about UNC, which would probably preclude him under any circumstances. But, if you get a chance during tourney season, watch UNCG play. They really defend, and Miller game plans more broadly than any college coach I can think of. They play man, multiple zones, they play 3/4 traps as well as full court. And they play them all well. They’re constantly changing up and they get teams playing deep into the clock and running bad stuff as a result. And he runs a lot of subtle actions that create a ton of clean looks. I am absolutely a fan. He’s a Dude and he’s gonna be big time somewhere.
  5. Almost certainly true. DM’d with Mike DeCourcy, and if you follow him on Twitter he’s a good dude and great about answering DM’s, when the Wake Forest job opened up and asked why they wouldn’t just hire Miller. His response was that he was looking bigger.
  6. Absolutely yes to Wes Miller.
  7. My favorite Coach in CBB. He gets more done with less than anyone in the country. His games are must see tv if you’re in to coaching. But I do not believe he would have the slightest interest in a fishbowl like IU and I do not believe he would thrive there.
  8. There it was, right there. Lander has the ball 2 on 2 in the open court. Every guard ever born takes that ball right at Watts. Lander pulls it out. That HAS to be coached. You wanna know why this team doesn’t push the ball? Because Archie doesn’t want to.
  9. Couldn’t quit it if I tried. Been in love with IU basketball since I was 10. I think I cared more about IU than I did about the school I was playing, or rather sitting, for. It’s in my DNA and I’ll continue to break down every game like I have forever. But I completely get the notion of walking away from it. No judgements. And how long will this thread be? Hell, every poster may need their own individual thread.
  10. That would be a good call. Thought that might be the job for Kyle Neptune, Jay Wright’s top guy. But Shrewsberry would certainly make sense.
  11. That y’all could debate which legitimately interesting FOOTBALL game to attend really does speak to the rabbit hole IU sports has gone down. Just can’t stop shaking my head over this being the state of things.
  12. Yeah, I love Beilein. The man’s as good as it gets. But if you’re hiring him, you’re doing so with a succession plan already in place. So let’s just get this out of the way right now: John Beilein plus Jordan Hulls. Tell me Hulls after sitting next to Beilein for 5 years wouldn’t be ready to roll.
  13. Love watching Utah St play. Great pace and movement without recklessness. So cohesive. Sone power conference AD that hooks up Craig Smith is gonna look like a genius. Love that guy.
  14. If you want Cronin, you’re a hiring cycle late. He’s laid the groundwork for that program to really take off. Leaving now would be pretty nuts.
  15. Yes he would. Terrific coach. I’m curious if he would have been willing to actually pull the trigger with Michigan had that offer come. The dude makes a couple of mil a year coaching in his hometown and for a school at which he is beloved and where the expectations are....manageable. He might well be willing to leave, but it might be tough.
  16. I wouldn’t for 2 reasons: 1) Mark Morefield 2) Hanner Perea It wouldn’t bother me as much if Drew had fired Morefield or at least publicly condemned the guy. He did neither. I don’t believe he was even suspended during Baylor’s “investigation.” He coached the year and left on his own. When you then factor in that he has been assumed to be dirty by pretty much everyone for years, though in fairness he’s been smart enough not to be caught, the guy just doesn’t do it for me. I mean, he got Mark Vital into Baylor, a really good academic school, after Vital graduated from Prime Prep, which lost it’s academic accreditation and folded. I think the crap he used to get for being a poor bench Coach was unfair. But, there’s just way too much smoke for my, admittedly, old man tastes.
  17. Textbook definition of a sh**show. But if they brought in a guy who can provide some energy, even if it’s not a rockstar hire, and you combine it with the whole free agency angle this year, that guy has a chance to create, if not a really good product, at least an interesting one. And right now I’d be happy as hell with interesting.
  18. No doubt true. And can you imagine , just from the standpoint of optics, this team running on the floor for the 1st game of a new season and the Coach being booed? It’s just become unimaginable to me that that can be allowed to happen. It would be unfair to everyone involved. Miller’s not a bad guy and his conduct hasn’t embarrassed the school. But it’s just untenable now.
  19. I’ve been convinced all along that Chris is right and 10 mil is prohibitive and that there’s no practical way to cut CAM loose. But after losing those games, and they’re gonna, this team is done, I just can’t come up with any argument at all, even a weak one, that Dolson can sit in front of the press and the fan base and make without flushing his credibility in year 1. He has to find the money and he has to do it. Just has to.
  20. There is definitely a Euro cultural element at play here. European games are a non-stop bitchfest.
  21. Sometimes ya got fight over the screen. Sometimes ya do.
  22. What a cheap call on Hunter. That is so bad.
  23. That’s a clever little illegal screen UM just ran on Lander. It’s blatant, but will never get called.
  24. Go back and watch Al after he takes the handoff from Hunter. He literally walks twice.
  25. 2 things here: 1) So many people only define “their voices being heard” as “follow my suggestion.” I’m confident Glass heard them. The problem is they didn’t, and still don’t, have a legit candidate. So, as far as I’m concerned, they can take a seat. 2) You and me both on CTA. Have always believed if you’re hiring a guy no one else would hire, you’re the one who’s usually wrong. Happy as hell to be wrong on that one.
