(2022) - PF Tarris Reed Jr. to Michigan

Yes, he has that Christian Watford tendency to take it a dribble too far. And he doesn’t always make the simple play. But he does have some tools. -

11 or so rebounds. 4 blocks. Couple of steals. I can think of 3 assists. 4 TO’s, all of which were taking it into traffic. Shot 5-11, I believe. 0-1 from 3. 6-6 from the line. I wasn’t tracking, but that’s pretty close. Started the game taking a couple of terrible shots and had a bad TO. All in the first couple of minutes. Settled down and was much better after that. -

Was able to get into this one. I didn’t think last year he was 6’10”. He is now. His movement and athleticism are really coming. They were switching everything and he was able to stay in front of CBC’s guards pretty consistently. He seems to have fallen in love with facing up in the mid post, which was doing CBC a favor since they had no answer for him on the block. Also made 6-6 from the line. Has such a pretty stroke for a big kid. Really like him long term. -
It makes me a little nuts when Archie, or any coach, talks about guys making shots in practice and just needing to carry it over. EVERYBODY makes shots in practice. DeAndre Jordan shoots 85% in practice. True story: I once made 111 ft’s in a row at the end of a practice. Also made 97/100 at a fundraiser. And I never shot above 74% for a season in either HS or college. So what did that make me? A crappy free throw shooter. A guy like Galloway making 3’s in practice doesn’t change how he’s defended and how Archie should be using him.

Yeah, he wasn’t one of my preferred guys, but I shouldn’t imply that I was down on the hire. I wasn’t. Struck me as a perfectly solid, if not terribly imaginative, choice. I didn’t picture a dead fail, and if someone says they did, I don’t really think I’d believe ‘em. But I didn’t realize just how antithetical his philosophy is to mine. He’s made IU almost worse than bad for me, he’s made them boring.

Usually hate idle chatter threads like this, but, hey, sometimes a little cathartic primal scream is mentally healthy, right? So, what the hell. Beilein-will put my admiration for Beilein up against anyone. He’s as good as it gets. But he’s about to be 68, and hiring a guy who might not recruit a full roster is not a solution. But, if you hire him along with a HC in waiting type, be it a young Asst(Mike Miller?) or a successful HC from a lower level(Greg Tonagel?), maybe you create a long term culture that way. If you’re gonna call a current high D1 guy, it’s gotta start with Beard and Greg McDermott, doesn’t it? Beard’s undeniably great and McDermott’s created a system and a development structure that’ll play anywhere and any good kid would want to be a part of. After them, Oats makes some sense. I’m still a fan of Mike White. Really like Kevin Willard, though I doubt he would turn on a lot of folks around here. His teams play as hard anybody. Maybe Eric Musselman. If you’re trying for the “I’m the smartest guy in the room” under the radar mid-major hire, I can think of 2. Wes Miller, UNC-Greensboro, is just a great young coach. He may not be ready for the IU maelstrom yet, but he’s gonna be a big time guy at some point, somewhere. It would not bother me at all to jump on him while he’s still a little undercooked. Also love Craig Smith, the Utah St coach. Great coach, great energy, beautiful offense, and has the benefit of having been a B1G asst. i also think if you’re gonna post in this thread, you need to post who you honestly wanted when Archie was hired, and whether or not you stand by that now. No hope options(Stevens) excluded. There were people who wanted Miller. There were people who wanted Gregg Marshall. You gotta admit to that stuff. I wanted Brad Underwood. And I’d take him again in a second.

Why was Leal playing Edey and Trayce playing Stefanovich on the in bounds? Trayce lost him and gave him a clean 3.

Looks like it. He linked to a 24/7 article that was up before Gunn’s tweet. -

Announcing Feb 7th, per Brian Snow. -
Like Levert as a fit next to Brogdon much better than Vic. The weird things we remember: Somebody started a thread on here a few ago asking what 2 players in college that year we would we have wanted for that IU team. I posted Domantas Sabonis and Caris Levert. Some dude responded that Sabonis couldn’t play in the Big Ten and Troy was better than Levert. Yeah.

Obviously would need to see way more, but he is a great looking athlete. Also doesn’t seem to shy away from contact. If not IU, I don’t think I would want to see him at Rutgers. -
Damn. Redford was the 1st guy I saw play live in high school who then played at IU. He was a senior and I think I was 12. Dropped 25 or so on Broad Ripple. This one hurts.
-
Yup. Any conference win, doesn’t matter who, doesn’t matter where, is a really good win. If I remember right, there were a few folks who meh’d the home Maryland win. Wisconsin and Illinois would take it.
-
Probably Trayce. But the biggest play of the game was Leal’s 3.

Ridiculous to take this long. There should be a 60 or 90 second rule. If the Refs can’t figure it out in 90 secs you go with the call. -

You may well be right. And transferring creates, practically-speaking, a redshirt. And that should have been the path for him from the jump. I’ll take 7’0”, big frame, long, can run and with decent hands any day. But that kid just turned 18 and he’s a calf on skates right now. He had no business playing this year. But if he has a blue collar mentality he could be a hell of a long term investment. If he doesn’t he could be a hell of a tease. -
Ok, funniest thing I’ve see in a minute. Someone makes a UCONN Fr highlights video of the kid. IT’S 23 SECONDS LONG.

Tell ya what could be fun to watch: the best thing Walker does is he understands where to give the ball to Duane Washington. Without Walker I think it’s fair to say that Washington will throw up some really bad shots.

Win or lose this, Miller has coached a fantastic game. Really, really impressed. -

They may not have had back to back offensive possessions that good this year. -

Hunter’s body language that entire trip was, “It’s going up.” -
I seem to recall reading somewhere that the writer thought there might be a tampering situation here. Said something along the lines, “ If he ends up at an adidas school there should be an investigation.”
-
So much for taking some time away from the game. Entered the transfer portal today.

Bardo just made a great observation. Why is no one on the floor killing Hunter right now? Forget Miller, that’s on the players.
