  1. Quinerly is killing Iona right now.You know a guy has broken down a defense when he has his choice of who to feed for a dunk.
  2. Creighton hasn’t seemed that interested in anything since the “plantation” crack. McDermott lost his team in 60 seconds.
  3. Miller must recruit crazy smart kids. They do more different things in the course of 1 game than any team I can think of. They just have a talent gap.
  4. Miller from UNCG with one of the plays of the year. Blocks a closeout corner 3, somehow saves it from going ob and then makes a highly contested 10 ft floater on the other end. Freaking awesome.
  5. Colorado 15-22 from 3. Not sure it’s possible to lose shooting like that. And, man, does McKinley Wright have pg DNA. He’s like watching Cassius Winston.
  6. Can’t figure out how 1 of those programs that gets whomever they want ends up with this offensive talent gap. Too damned hard to win without playmakers.
  7. I share the age thing, but hearing or reading “settling” and “John Beilein” in the same sentence makes me laugh out loud. Stuff like that lends credence to people who say our fan base is stone nuts.
  8. Gotta point out that, given what the PAC 10 is doing so far, Enfield winning COY is not nothin’. Not sure he’s my 2nd choice, but he’s certainly worth vetting.
  9. ORU has been sending me fundraising letters for years despite the fact that I didn’t finish there. They knock off OSU and I may have shoot them a hundo.
  10. The thug crack is bad and he deserves to be pushed hard on it. But if he owns his mistake and is able to convey real contrition he’s got a chance to move past it. If he gets defensive every time it comes up, he probably can’t. The age thing bothers me because it creates a more complicated scenario. But, that can dealt with, too. Example: Beilein brings on someone like David Ragland as his #2. Ragland is the Associate HC at Utah St. He’s the primary defensive Asst for the team that was Kenpom’s #9 team defensively. He’s going to be a really good HC for someone at some point. And he’s 39 and from Evansville. So Beilein spends 5 years building the program and then has the luxury of turning it over to a 44 year old guy from Indiana who was with him from the ground up. Bingo, long-term culture and stability. Not saying it should be Ragland, there are lots of guys and it would be up to him to find the right one. Just saying, it can be managed. And the guy’s a brilliant freaking coach. He’s not my 1st choice, but I’ll be happy as hell if this is where we end up.
  11. Yeah, if someone’s hung on the thug comment, that I get. He would face some serious vetting on that from the school and from parents. And he should.
  12. The Beilein reaction is fascinating. His years at UM he was in any conversation for the best guy in the country. For me, he’d be #1. And yet we’ve got folks running around talking about him like he’s some kind of geriatric retread scrub. Stop it. Sure, the age is a thing so the plan would have extra moving parts. And the recruiting and long-term culture pieces would have to be part of that. It’s a legit issue. But the 1 indisputable thing is that if Beilein is on the sideline in AH in November, IU will never, ever get out coached. He is a premium guy.
  13. Hey Jamie, you know what else sends a terrible message? Forking out 5 mil to buy out a failed coach and covering it by cutting back on services or staff. Maybe getting that 5 mil from someone who could light it on fire without missing it isn’t such a terrible idea. Or, if you want to be a super principled beacon to your colleagues, maybe you don’t fire the Coach. Otherwise, just punt that self-righteousness, please.
  14. I don’t know if they’re rooting for it, but you know they’re rooting for the best story. And Stevens at IU would be the biggest story in CBB since Cal went to UK.
  15. No doubt true. Count me firmly in the Stevens ain’t comin’ camp, though I’d be happy as hell to be wrong, but Dolson didn’t get 2 different guys to make 8 figure commitments so he could hire my guy, Craig Smith. He is convinced he’s got a Guy and he was able to convince them he’s got a Guy.
  16. Appreciate it, and frankly, that y’all were able to come up with my buyout that fast was positively Dolson-like. How could I say no?
  17. Yeah, that was kind of it.
  18. Now, if they post a headline like, “Brad Stevens Finds coaching the Boston Celtics ‘Nauseating’, we might be on to something.
  19. Bilas is a really smart guy, but he has taken to wearing his douchebaggery as a point of pride.
  20. I imagine that, given that he never interviews anywhere, Duke has a handshake agreement with John Scheyer. If that guy wanted a P5 job, he’d have one.
  21. Slight aside: Quin Snyder, unbelievable what that guy’s done with his career. Flamed out at Mizzou in a spectacular way. Had the drug problems. Rebuilt his reputation from freakin’ scratch and now he’s absolutely a Guy. That’s a reclamation story right there.
  22. Seriously, they asked John freaking Beilein if he wanted to be a stable pony for a young coach? Wow. He may have been too gracious to hang up on them, but I’d bet a mortgage payment it crossed his mind. His situation and Phil Martelli’s are not remotely comparable.
  23. He has never been anything but an impressive and gracious young man. His parents should give classes.
  24. I was going to mention perhaps upping your dosage of LATUDA, but since this is approximately the same reaction I have to Bill Walton “analyzing” games, by all means brother, please proceed.
  25. That dude is way, way too smart to want any part of that dumpster fire.
