Carlysle continuing to get minutes and putting up an exorbitant number of shots is baffling to me. He either A. Doesn’t listen to the coaches, or B. woody dgaf about him jacking up terrible shots. Then you get someone like Mack who gets benched for missing open/good shots. Or Woody barking at Gallo when it seems like he’s the only one hustling at times.

I hope Woody sends TJD a Christmas card every year for that farce.

Yea this one is a silly argument to me. Cal, Ya, Kenya, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, it doesn’t matter who is interim coach. This season is lost, and winning a few extra games doesn’t matter. I can’t seem to decipher the DM buyout. It starts at 5mil then goes down to 4 after one year. Not sure if that’s a season or calendar year. Either way, it’s peanuts for IU. I’d encourage everyone to read that and seriously consider if you’d want anyone involved in that anywhere near IU basketball. DV doesn’t just manifest itself once with a 911 call. Texas literally has a football coach who is in open recovery and got fired for being a jackass at a booster event USC. Beard didn’t get fired from some overly sensitive school afraid of controversy. And he got fired for cause. Which is not an easy thing to prove. And he didn’t fight it. People keep saying “second chances.” I would argue that’s already happened, he literally got hired at a place in the same conference that’s notorious for terrible choices in the name of winning. We wouldn’t be his “second chance,” we would be the organization than decided to ignore all the baggage in the name of wins. I’d rather keep Mike Woodson than hire someone who was charged with felony domestic assault.

Women do not call 911 for funsies. They do not call 911 because they’re extra pissed. They do not look like she did after his arrest from playing around. She chose to recant on the choking despite forensic evidence to the contrary. She stated “she initiated” the altercation and he was acting in self defense (laughable if you’ve seen pictures of them) as if that makes it okay. They are no longer engaged. The Austin DA even stated publicly it’s hard to proceed without a cooperating witness despite the physical evidence. He got fired for cause from his alma mater and was paid nothing. Chris Beard is a non starter. We are not Ole Miss. I said this before, but none of that makes him guilty of a crime. It does make him ineligible to coach at Indiana. If Pat Fitzgerald was too much, Chris Beard is never happening. Cross him off the list.

Changing the subject for a second, but was there a more jarring juxtaposition than IU getting nuked and students chanting for Woodson to be fired followed by the AD account posting the photos of Cignetti getting the Walter Camp with Dolson and Whitten? I am not sure I’ve seen a picture of Woody with them both or even with Dolson in four years outside of his opening press conference. You and others mentioned it before but Cignetti completely turning the AD upside down has to have helped push this along. Who would have ever believed football would be in a better place than basketball at Indiana. What a time to be alive.

I also don’t have an issue with general booing— I was more put off by Gallo getting booed specifically when he checked back in, or guys getting booed after misses at the FT line. I don’t wanna see guys booed checking in or out, or after missing a jump shot. They all earned the halftime boos lol

It’s also COMPLETELY different in college. I don’t care that they are “NBA aged and getting paid.” There isn’t an NBA arena in use that compares to packed Assembly Hall except for maybe Boston or Market Square Garden(s). Getting booed by fellow students who you live in a small bubble with like BTown and are going to see around campus is not remotely similar to NBA players hearing from the crowd. Mike Woodson being a shitty coach and not putting them in a position to succeed is not their fault. NBA arenas are libraries compared to AH with angry or happy students. And that’s before you get to the point that NBA DJs will drown out the crowd during play. Again, I don’t blame anyone for feeling the opposite, and I 100% understand the sentiment, I just won’t agree to booing anyone but this coaching staff. I want the students to boo Woody everytime he stands up or is shown on the screen. Not Gallo being checked back in by a coach with stupid substitutions lol

Spot on. Not pulling the bandaid off last spring was always going to have repercussions potentially, and it is going to manifest itself on the players. This is a bed the administration is going to have to choose to stay in from here on out, and for the player’s sake I hope they choose to at least announce retirement post season. After this last game I have shifted to feeling like it is probably better to pull the ripcord now and install and interim. No good can come from Woody coaching inside Assembly Hall and risking a bad loss.

I really hate for the players to be individually boo’d like he was. Gallo in particular could have (probably should have for his career) transferred out, and seems to really love IU. Unfortunately students do this stuff, and the writing was on the wall when Mike Woodson’s “Angels” as Doyle put it saved his job last year. As much as watching this team play basketball makes me want to bleach my eyeballs, I still feel bad for the kids— paid a bunch of NIL or otherwise.
