Woody and Archie and even Crean to some extent all got years beyond when the fanbase started viscerally shouting for their demise. We are as patient as any other fanbase that fancies itself elite or blue blood. I don’t need a 120+ game sample size to judge if a system works or see how recruiting is going. Anyone with eyeballs objectively watching Woodyball since day one knew exactly how this season would go. Year four was a mistake and we waited too long, again. The new guy will have plenty of leash, just like every other guy to coach here. Good coaches win fast. Good coaches with huge NIL budgets win even faster. I am not sure the argument here.

I think you’re probably right if for no other reason than Rice would have been told he has to break the press and/or only Goode or Mack are to come back to the ball— Gallo getting a touch was baffling. Classic example of putting Gallo (a bad free throw shooter lately) in a position to fail. It is also hard to overstate how bad that timeout and inbound was. I rewatched the end and we broke huddle and clearly six guys thought they were going in. Then the PnR is done incorrectly by both Rice and Malik, trapping Rice in the corner for a contested shot. This is stuff that gets fixed/installed in August. Ours guys don’t get coached. Long winded way of saying, yea probably anyone else in charge and that’s a win lol

I think there are still plenty of kids who want to be coached hard. I also think that most if not all have dreams of playing in the NBA or overseas. They know they need to work and to be coached to reach those types of goals. What we are seeing a team that has taken on the identity of the coaching staff IMO. Lethargic, disorganized, and generally not having any fun in systems they know set them up for failure. I have softened my views considerably on the players as this has gone on. They all show flashes of what they were advertised to be/skill sets, but all of them (including Ballo) are being mismanaged in one way or another. That final play was microcosm of our team under Woody. Our problems go far beyond player accountability and lack of contracts, but I agree with you that needs to be addressed by college sports as a whole.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I was actually struck by how gently Luke turned him around and put his arm around him. It seemed very "get grandpa moving in the right direction" as apposed to "come on coach do the right thing." I don't know, probably reading too much into it, but if you watch at how quickly Woody acquiesced and how gently he turned him around, it felt like more about taking care of him than Woody deliberately shunning the handshake line. Either way, its all just sad. The program is sad.
