Trying to get caught up after too much work the last couple days, and this has to be the biggest news to drop in the FMW thread since Bruce Pearl was flirting with us last spring!

Yea we’d have to go 6-6 over the remaining games to even be at 11-9. Winning the ones we “should” would currently give us a grand total of 4 Q1 wins. Thats not good enough to sniff the bubble particularly when you start factoring in the probability of more blowout losses. The six losses are ranked teams who will likely be ranked at the end of the season. Mike Woodson teams don’t beat ranked teams that finished ranked. There is nothing about this current iteration that leads me to believe that happens this season. Possible? Sure. Probable? No 15 teams in the B1G are currently top-75. USC and Providence are trending towards Q3. OSU and PSU trending down. The B1G is inflated right now but will work itself out by seasons end. And that’s before you start talking about how rare finishing with 6+ Q1 wins is. Only 23 teams did so last season and that’s counting conference tournament data. We simply aren’t finishing with 5 or more Q1’s without upsets. Woody teams don’t do upsets.

This was my fear for a while, but I gotta think Dolson and company know IU and Ohio aren’t the same jobs. Personally I think all we get is a retirement announcement unless things go completely off the rails. If we get anything before end of season. We also aren’t in a position to take chance on an interim. This one cannot be a miss or a risky move. Risky would be someone like McCollum who has an .815 winning percentage as a head coach— and I’d be ecstatic about him and he’s probably 3 or 4 on my list. It’s been nearly 10 years since Crean won the B1G. So I think we don’t have to worry about a Diebler situation

If we start getting rolled (and frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens even if we don’t) there’s a 100% chance the students start a chant for Dusty. I don’t wanna see that. The fire Woodson chant was audible on TV. Several tweets went semi viral showing it. You know where I stand on Woody. I understand students do stupid stuff (I certainly did), it’s just a bad look for a fanbase already fractured. We forum ding dongs aren’t the only ones who know Dusty is an IU guy. I don’t want individual players booed and I don’t wanna see that. I think if they at least announce or confirm it’s his last season it maybe doesn’t happen (probably does anyways). That’s what I meant. Edit: I’ll add stoob, this is why we (royal we in this case) wanted him gone last year. I wanted to avoid this lame duck season and so did others. The portal money never changed my opinion on that.

Great take— I’ll give a couple thoughts. First I don’t think anyone watching last night thought we looked good, more like less bad than whatever that OSU team is lol. I don’t think it or NW move the needle too much, and I’m also not convinced 11-9 gets us in without a win or two in BTT as you said. The computers hate us, we gained one spot for the supposed Q1a win last night. OSU dropped 8. And I imagine that team will be outside the top-75 by seasons end or close to it. You are spot on with Mgbako. He’s just not athletic enough for this level beyond spot up shooting. We need his scoring, and used correctly with sets for open shots in spot situations he’s an asset. As to your last paragraph— this is why I think 11-9 is probably a pipe dream as it is. We will get torched several more times this year. I’m guessing at least 2-3 20ish point losses before it’s over. I think the thing still working in our favor so to speak is Michigan. They have to know it will be ugly if we are getting dog walked. Maybe they don’t care. I have to think they do. Even announcing retirement probably eases the vitriol from the students. Ahh well, time will tell, but like I said earlier today, I’m convinced it’s over. It just needs to be announced for the sake of the fanbase.

I’ll probably get roasted for this take, but here goes. There is a small part of me that actually feels bad for Woody sometimes. I don’t like seeing him look lost and generally miserable. Him acting like we just made the final four after beating that Ohio State team in that fashion was just sad to me. It was admittedly hilarious, but sad. The state of our program is just sad. It’s sad we got here. It’s sad two Hoosier legends have completely tarnished their legacies in the eyes of a not insignificant number of fans and alumni. I say that to say, I agree with you, I just want us to definitively turn the page. Fired, retiring at end of season it matters not to me. I don’t wanna watch him stand there when students start chanting for Dusty if they’ve done nothing by that game. Sorry for the rant, I’m just over it too.

I think it’s generally fair to toss out Crean’s first season of walk ons. I’m guessing that was the methodology when he made the list. Comparing those to any of the other losses isn’t really fair to Crean or the players he had IMO

He’s not coaching this team next year. Zero chance. Any worry I had about that is gone. This team stinks, and is probably going to finish sub .500 or right at it in the B1G. All you had to do was watch us last night. It was two bad teams and one has to win. The B1G has 18 teams. Half of them are mediocre to bad, we were always going to out talent and/or ride a hot hand/or opposing team egg to a few wins. And if they pull off the impossible and win like 11+? Hey great! Enjoy the wins, hope for a decent tournament showing (not get nuked). He’s still not going to be coaching this team next season.
