(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I want Fland at IU because I think he can be a difference maker. But I don't think a sophomore Cupps is a bad option at the point either. Absolutely want to accumulate talent, but I trust that the staff will do what is necessary address our needs. -
Been in that situation a few times myself. Lost both of my parents in my twenties, so I have some sense of what it's like. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I don't want anyone raining on my delirious happy mood the rest of this week. -

So much about recruiting is perception. The teams who are always mentioned to be final four contenders are usually in the front of top recruits minds. CMW has done a remarkable job of getting us into their minds. He has credentials to market and he has a great staff. But this becomes a momentum thing where the more top kids pick IU, the more top kids consider IU. The optiminist in me thinks, barring a complete failure this year, really good times are ahead. -

Not sure about the Bird comparison but I like everything about McNeely. He plays with high IQ and his shot is a thing of beauty. He could very well play himself into a one and done situation. Selfishly, I'd like to have him for more than one because that would bode well for IU basketball. -

I was a big fan of the Miller hire. I thought he was a young, second coming of CBK. Didn't work out for whatever reason. CMW is the right guy at the right time. He understands IU basketball in a way that no one has since CBK. He is making the people who questioned if he could transition to college basketball look stupid, including me. It has been 40 years of wandering in the desert, well not quite, to finally find our way again. I feel really good about IU basketball again and it has been a long time since I could say that. -

Absolutely. I think this years team has tremendous potential. It reminds me a little of the 81 team. Full of talent but took a while to figure it out. Granted, that team had IT but the pieces were there. This team looks talented and deep, especially in the frontcourt. It will be fun, and sometimes frustrating, to watch them grow. -

Winning recruiting battles against the top teams is good, but beating them on the court will be even better. I want to assume we are going to win every game we play..... again. Been a while since I have felt that way. McNeely is a good start, but we should be getting kids like him year in and year out. -

McNeely would go a long way toward resolving our perimeter problems. Add Fland to the class and we have the start to a top 10 team. -
I would have preferred to have worked out the issues with Coach Wilson and kept CTA on as defensive coordinator. Wilson's teams were fun to watch offensively. Not sure where we go from here but this is some of the worst football I have seen in a long time, and that's saying something. When we move on, rebuilding this mess is going to take a bit.

I hope we don't get a similar surprise in the next few days. -
We can be good without Ware being the player we hoped he would be. However, he does, I think, define where our ceiling will be.

Good problem to have. I really think that the depth is real this year. Walker and Sparks will be great guys to have off the bench if the starters aren't getting it done. I still think to many IU fans are discounting Cupps. He's not a flashy player and won't put up big numbers. But what he will do is put his teammates in a position to make plays. He just wins.

Never liked Cal at any of his previous stops and like him even less at Kentucky. Don't like the optics of the deal because I think it makes us look desperate in light of the way the series ended. Self agreed to a home and home so, unlike Kentucky and their bed wetter coach, Kansas apparently isn't afraid of playing in Assembly Hall.

If we get McNeely, Queen, and Fland, I know big IF, I think we are good with high school recruits. I don't think it's good to be top heavy with freshmen if we want to win at a high level. -

I'm feeling good about holding the Zips scoreless so far. I like how TJ looks as qb.
