Were you around the team? That was about the only thing that was high during the Crean era. -
State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?
schoosier replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I vote for Crean Apologist. You and I had some interesting discussions about him. Time to experience some real coaching now, and I expect to see fewer discussions on flash cards, Diet Coke, and cheerleading this year. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

Really exciting news as I view him a Hoosier must get. So many others I like too. DD's son, Hurt, and others. -
South End Zone Expansion/Stadium Renovation Thread

Really nice additions to our University. Will the athletic dining be available to all or specifically football players? -
I could see him playing if God forbid, Davis has an injury or if Priller is non serviceable. I believe Priller will contribute based on the 1 game he fouled out in 5 minutes from last year. Our better off season training will also help with fewer injuries. Hope Race stays a redshirt.

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
schoosier replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I believe his dad was a little taller so he may have a little growth left. We have 2 prob 3 schollies and I would love to have him and Brooks then wait it out for another top player like Wiseman. Wiseman is best of 2019. -
Arch was honest to Gelon and offered for him to stay at IU as a student only for free. In the long run for Grant that would have been much better option than State Fair U.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If you saw the ladies involved in their last scandal, it would be easy to up that game. Momma & daughter horrible...only in Kentucky lol -
I am also excited not seeing this anymore. We have gone 2 decades playing mostly matador defense except during the Sampson years and the one abberation of Creans next to last year after we lost JB2. I'm all in to see what Arch can teach which should be a huge upgrade.

Arizona vs IU series coming to a town near.....
schoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
These are two teams we need to play annually. Especially if Arch wants to recruit inside out. Big time games = big time recruits. -
Curious how many were won with a straight up man or match up?
-
Combined with a standard man defense, this pack line could be successful. Using it with other variations like trapping, pressing, etc... is where I could see sustained success. I think if it's what you bring every game, it would be easy to plan for and beat with good shooters. I mentioned championships only because I don't believe using this gimick type d will result in many.
-
No worries. That's the reason I asked for further clarification. I would also state a regular man to man or match up zone is also very effective when done correctly. A good coach would exploit this pack line defense as long as he had the three point shooters to do it. How many championships did this type of defense win last year?
-
Personally, I don't like this defense compared to good old fashioned man to man. I appreciate the explanation, but it sure looks and smells like the old match up zone. If you watch the video, the placement of the other off ball players is the same as a matchup zone. I also don't remember switching much in a match up zone either since the off defenders aren't closely guarding their men. The real difference I see is forcing the ball into the middle or "pack" vs straight up man for the on ball defender. I'm also not sold on devaluing offensive boards, especially if we have a lineup full of long bodies where at least 2 should be able to get back on defense and stop fast breaks. Just my $.02.
-
So it sounds similar to a match up zone or saggy man as they like to call it these days. The difference is forcing the ball into the middle vs baseline. I would assume Arch's defenses don't do a lot of trapping.

(2018) G/F Damezi Anderson to Detroit Mercy

Congrats Damezi and welcome home. This quote is exactly what you want our Indiana commits to say. Arch has a powerful message. -
(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
schoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yes, NBA type as he can play. How he's not rated higher is surprising. I am pumped he's an Indiana recruit. -
Congratulations Race and welcome to IU! I personally don't like the redshirt in Basketball because of scholly limitations vs football as one reason. Another is the 1 and done rules. With Race's skill set, if he comes now I think he can help now. He has size, bball IQ, and a shot that will get better. We can use another post player also. He reminds me of a Matt Nover/ Eric Anderson type which is a helluva compliment in my book.

(2018) G/F Damezi Anderson to Detroit Mercy

I would love to see him being the first IN recruit who Arch gets. I think he would get the ball rolling with others soon following. We're after a lot of great players and there won't be schollies for all of them. -
Very few things sports related could please me more than Louisville losing 1 and UNC up to 3 banners. Esp after Brand decimating our program after too many phone calls.

10 year contract for Glass -
Seems Arch did a good job landing some assistants more than capable of succeeding at this recruiting game. Bruiser was under Cal thru Camby & D Rose I believe and Schilling had to have gotten up close to the Balls. Miller will have to convince the recruits without bag men but his Indiana recruit focus can make up for a lot.
