It looks like Duke and KU are both starting to sweat. Maybe the NCAA will actually punish them this time.

I think Dolson is a typical IU hire. Much like his predecessors. We have had Donninger, Greenspan, and Glass. The athletic program is still mired at the lowest levels of the B10 as a whole and a non-factor on the national level. And yes I know men's soccer is usually pretty good and sometimes swimming teams. The real heart and soul of any competitive NCAA Div 1 program are football and men's basketball. There is no denying IU lags far behind the rest of the B10 and has for decades. In the case of football, it is arguably one of the 10 worst programs all-time in BCS. These are just the facts. You can speculate all you want on why it is like this. What I do know is that when any organization performs poorly over long periods of time it is reflected back to top management. That is always the weakest link at IU. It all starts with a lack of competence on the Board of Trustees. This is a structural problem in governance.

2020-21 IUMBB Season Predictions and Discussion
Gahoosierfan replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Archie needs to make major progress to keep his job in my opinion. He needs at least 25 wins and wins in the B10 Tourney and probably 2 or 3 in the NCAA. Anything less and the new AD needs to send him packing. I give him an overall C for his first three years. -

Wide-open 3s percentage is pretty high for most teams. -

Archie waited way too long to adjust the D and it cost IU maybe 7 or 8 wide-open 3s. This game would be IU on top without that. -

Archie is giving this game away. He refuses to adjust the defense. The double team leaves UM wide open for 3s. Jeez is he blind. -

It seems IU has a history of hiring lawyers with IU connections. People like Glass and Donninger. They don't seem to think that athletic knowledge is of much importance. Neither of these two could in any way evaluate coaching talent. I don't expect the IU BOT to make a good decision. It would be out of character. -

I am pretty sure Purdue will win this. IU isn't making any kind of effort. -

I understand that everyone is frustrated. They have good reason to be. The facts are that IU has not been a top 10, top 20, and now not even a top 40 basketball program for many years. You can dance around that any way you want, but that is a fact. The football program has been a disaster since the 1800s. Are things getting better under Glass? Not really. Basketball is picked to finish 11th. Football is still IU football. As far as facilities go, I don't really credit Glass for any of that. The University paid for it. He just had some input on design and so on. I don't think Glass is a good judge of coaching talent overall. And lastly I like having some decent non-revenue sports teams, but without basketball and football success it is kind of hollow. If you want success look at schools that are successful. They would never tolerate what the IU administration has tolerated forever. -
I wonder just how important this season will be to Glass and Miller.

Indiana Academics, etc

IU continues its decades-long decline in academic standings. I think this can be attributed directly to the BOT (Board of Trustees). They are a major problem and they are making IU irrelevant academically on the national scene. IU decades ago was considered to be one of the best public universities. Thanks to the BOT's focus on quantity vs quality of students IU continues its long slide to the bottom. If you care about IU, contact the board and let them know that you are dissatisfied. http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/story/41010262/two-indiana-schools-break-top-50-list-of-best-colleges
