Fred Glass Retiring
Gahoosierfan replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Public perception is very important and IU has a very poor reputation around the country. IU football compared to all schools in the power five is probably close to last place all time. And the athletic department deflects every time football and basketball failures are mentioned and begins to talk up water polo and rowing. That is the spin. It takes the spotlight off the revenue sports that IU does so poorly in. -
This is incredibly embarrassing for the Big Ten.

The refs called a lot of invisible fouls today. That happens and you just have to live with it. Archie couldn't hide his frustration with his team's free throw shooting. I'll bet they hear about it the whole Christmas break.

Per Rabjohns McRobbie to blaim for lack of athletic success
Gahoosierfan replied to Aaron's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If IU wants to move up in academic standings, the way to do it is simple. Be much more selective in admissions. Basically, anyone can get into IU. Compare that to UNC, UVA, UC Berkley, and any other Big10 schools. At IU it has always been the goal of the trustees and administration to make Bloomington have one of the largest enrollments in the country for a single campus. This equals larger budgets and more dollars to control for the people in charge. Academics are secondary and athletics a distant third. -
IU vs Maryland 11/10/18 Noon BTN

Well I guess Allen gets one more year and then Glass gets to hire another IU assistant or a MAC coach. -
I think when an organization has gone off the rails you start by axing the top guy.

The problem with the NCAA is Mark Emmert.

Updated Win Probability by S&P+ (through Week 8)
Gahoosierfan replied to Aeggie's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
One thing I have learned after watching IU football for over 50 years is to be realistic. This has been another typical season. I didn't expect much, especially on defense considering the players they had returning. I really don't see another win this year. I think Coach Allen has to at the very minimum get to a bowl next year. He really needs to win 7 games to show progress. He will have a team made up mostly of his recruits and it will be time to show he can get the job done. If not he will be looking pretty vulnerable. -
I think one thing to always remember is that Mark Emmert leads the NCAA. He has proven time and again that he is ineffectual. He always avoids offending the big names in basketball and football. He looked the other way when UNC had the most massive academic cheating scandal in history. He will try to finesse the current cheating scandal with some minor token punishment and then claim victory.

Ramsey has been very effective in the short passing game. Debord just can't stand success. -

Allen sure is being stubborn about running the ball. Common sense says take what they give you. The O line isn't opening holes so throw it Allen. -
I could not believe the didn't let the play clock run down on each down late in the game while they were still ahead. Colorado would have been under a lot more pressure from the clock if Frost had worked the clock down. SMH!

I think Urban was negligent in following up with Zach Smith. He needed to act way before he did. He has to live with that. He should have fired him when he first learned of the domestic violence. I know in the beginning it was all alleged, but he should have seen the pattern over time. I would like to compare this to Nick Saban. Two years ago UGA dismissed a 5 star player who was convicted of violently beating his girlfriend. Saban quickly offered the player a scholarship to UA saying he deserved a second chance. Not long after the player enrolled at Alabama he violently assaulted his new girlfriend. There was very little fallout over that situation. Was Saban treated differently than Myer?

Here is a link to an article by a Columbus reporter named Brett McMurphy. It clearly lays out the chronology of several years of the Smith marriage and Zach's relationship to Urban. https://www.facebook.com/TheBrettMcMurphy/posts/2042037522486968?__tn__=K-R

He fired him 3 days later. Isn't that setting a good example? There are two sides to this story. It was a marriage going bad. It sounds like both husband and wife behaved badly. It happens.

IU operates on an old standard that says any Indiana high school graduate should be able to attend. As long as that is the case it can never be considered an elite academic school. The Board of Trustees is more concerned with the number of students than they are with the quality of students. The more students they can enroll in Bloomington, the larger the budget and the more money they control. There should be a gradual tightening of admission standards. There are several other state universities that those not accepted could attend. It will take a change of attitude among those in charge to get IU to elite status.
