Indiana Academics, etc
Gahoosierfan replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
IU continues its decades-long decline in academic standings. I think this can be attributed directly to the BOT (Board of Trustees). They are a major problem and they are making IU irrelevant academically on the national scene. IU decades ago was considered to be one of the best public universities. Thanks to the BOT's focus on quantity vs quality of students IU continues its long slide to the bottom. If you care about IU, contact the board and let them know that you are dissatisfied. http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/story/41010262/two-indiana-schools-break-top-50-list-of-best-colleges -
I see plenty to criticize. Not much to praise. Cons: No running game other than Penix. This will doom them in 7 out of the next 11 games. Incredibly poor tackling. The O line doesn't block well at all. Very, very poor third-down defense all day long. Poor zone coverage on the passing game. Receivers drop way too many. Deboer went way too conservative way too soon and it really cost them. I could go on. Pros: Penix can run. Hendershot is a player. Justus is great.

You are wrong as far as I understand it. The board is made up of nine trustees, and its business is overseen by six officers. Three trustees are elected by alumni, and the remainder are appointed by Indiana's governor. The board meets six times a year on IUcampuses around the state. -

I think the root problem with athletics and academics at IU always starts with the Board of Trustees. They are mostly appointed by the governor and are by definition political animals that have sucked up to the right politician. Few have any real competencies in administering a multi-billion dollar university. Until the people of Indiana demand better it will never change. -

This will be Coach Allen's third year. It will also be his freshmen and sophomores. It is time for some real progress. No more excuses. -
2020 IUFB Class Ranking
Gahoosierfan replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
I am pretty discouraged by this ranking. I think there are about 65 power five conference members and it looks like IU is nearly last place. Are we making any headway at all towards respectability? -

I voted for him. It is high time for new blood on the board of trustees. There are too many that have been there too long and they are deadwood. -
Why don't the decent schools in the NCAA fire Mark Emmert? These schools have to be in the majority.

IU will have to be a threat from 3 pt range. They will have to have a center that can dominate.

It seems like there is a tremendous amount of dissatisfaction all across the country with the NCAA on enforcement issues. Yet Mark Emmert is still there. Why don't conferences do something about it? -

It is too bad the BOT is so political. I question the competence of most of them. -
Vincennes wins the national title 87-77 over Ranger TX.

VU (33-2) will play for the national championship today in Hutchinson KS. They will play Ranger TX. It will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. https://www.wzdm.com/2019/03/22/blazers-advance-to-njcaa-national-title-game/

I think IU suffers from a structural problem with governance. The BOT is mostly appointed by the governor. That means you get a lot of political suck-ups running a multi-billion dollar enterprise. And I think the results show it. -

I don't know where I read it, but about 3 weeks ago I saw an article about Glass and the trustees. One of them asked him about the football program and said they had 1 winning season in the last 25 years. Glass, of course, tried to shift the conversation to the winning minor sports teams. -

I can't really feel any excitement at all for the NIT. -

Public perception is very important and IU has a very poor reputation around the country. IU football compared to all schools in the power five is probably close to last place all time. And the athletic department deflects every time football and basketball failures are mentioned and begins to talk up water polo and rowing. That is the spin. It takes the spotlight off the revenue sports that IU does so poorly in.
