  1. And now thoughts on DeVries in these regards? Hence, we need as much money as we can get. lol.
  2. Coaching and scouting are deeply important but you have to start somewhere that is a neutralizer for competition. Izzo, Sampson, Painter, etc, etc. prove that Budget isn’t the end all be all but it’s a starting point. And critical to compete. and using scout and coaching as the other important metrics, I’d say DeVries has nothing to. Brag about.
  3. Agree! I think we end up with 5. And not all seniors this time. I think we try to keep guys that get minutes now. The non players are anyone’s guess. I wish I could have seen Drake and Harris. I’m whatever about our end of bench guys. I want to keep Sisley and have him shoot 500 free throws a day all offseason.
  4. Budget is #1 and #1 by a large margin for comparative metrics and expectations. Coaching acumen is often more or equally important. But great staffs overachieve the metrics of budget. That’s the parameters. what other metrics do you want to use to set expectations?
  5. Right, so the math equals and we only free up money from our top 6. But we are still repaying 7-13 equal deals or we are dumping them and getting other cheap fillers. We aren’t at an advantage on these kids. Pay is the same and maybe they help, maybe they don’t. Spending better for top 5 will be key just like it was for this season.
  6. Swiss cheese defense. Letting the post get anything they want to start the game. Over and over. Everything opens up after that. That’s what we were able to down with Holmes on our good teams.
  7. Performance standards were set by the coach with those funds by picking the roster he picked. anyway, hopefully this offseason he’ll demonstrate the desire to field a strong team that covers the basics that winning teams need. That I, from my couch projected right along the way.
  8. But the 11-13 excuse doesn’t really work. These contracts are annual. And they should be cheap. Whoever we choose to retain will need paid again. You pay who you roster year in and year out. I’m not sure what we’ve done to earn a home team discount. Most that played are gone. Market value is market value. It’ll be the same again this year.
  9. Hearing Britt Prince name over and over makes it tougher knowing we tried hard to recruit her
  10. Because we went anti-splash in the portal and tried the Cignetti approach. Talking heads are going to take a wait and see approach with that strategy and a coach that doesn’t garner automatic respect. The wait and see approach was fitting because we were never anything to fear or be excited about. It all seemed predictable. The Louisville point is solid, same with Kentucky, and Kansas and lots of others. Several of the big spenders aren’t doing super great. We fall just a below these teams.
  11. This is the point. We have mid results with a mid roster with a top 10-20 resource. You have to include resources when comparing against expectations. It’s the only reason coaches move up to programs like Indiana. Sure football is raking it in and I’m glad they are. But we are top 20-25 at worst in basketball. Many think top 10. I think we are closer to 15-20. Anyway, if you build a mid roster with those resources you need to exceed roster expectations. We didn’t.
  12. Are we cheering that? That was my point all offseason. You fire a coach and give top 20 NIL to build a bubble team. it could be worse, so I’ll credit that I guess. We were 1 probably 2 real pieces away from being competitive. Someone should have known that and make moves to build it. But they didn’t know, and thought they were better than what they were. That’s a concern in itself.
  13. The idea was fine. Needed to win. Build momentum. Proof of concept. Etc. Unfortunately selling out to do that, then building a mid roster and getting mid results says it all. Now Carr saying it’s gonna take years. lol. What are we doing.
  14. Yeah, lost their 2nd best player. They aren’t great, but that hurt them.
  15. It’s really all a mess. I like DDV but I’m not convinced he’s a big brain type. He’s a hard worker type, which I respect, but the best of the best think outside of the box on and off the court. It bums me out, because I want him to be better than he is.
  16. I don’t hate the class overall. It’s got solid potential for sure. Especially long term. But he aimed for the fences and missed everyone. Should leave us more funds for the portal, which I like. Same as assistant coaches. Aimed for the fences. Ended up with what seems like a solid core, granted not the HR the original 2 would have been. DD might be getting signs Indiana doesn’t sell quite like he thought. Gonna have to overpay until results speak for themselves.
  17. Yup. Plus a shot blocker/rebounder and we would have had a real team.
  18. Yeah DeVries screwed the pooch by not getting the staff he was targeting and waiting around for what seemed like an eternity to get who he got. He swung for the fences and landed on the warning track somewhere. Similar to his HS recruiting for 26. It turned into a mess and the signings, short of Wilkerson, were all mostly underwhelming. No doubt there’s hope to improve. Need to try to build a top 20 roster instead of a bubbly roster like they did this year. Need higher ceiling players. Been saying this for a year.
  19. Haven’t heard a number. Will it translate? That’s the question. Goode got 400k by the old standards. Rates doubled this off-season approximately. So power 5 Starters, approx 250-1M. All conference type players closer to 2-3M. My guess is power 5 bench guys are 100-250. I could see Drake being in that realm, but just a guess. And the foreign guys are getting paid. But budget friendly.
  20. Very curious to find out what connections our staff has for the TP. I’ll get my hopes up again for a minute. LOTS of good players out there.
  21. Baba Miller wanted a similar deal. Was an option late. Would have been a nice addition. Reneau didn’t probably want to stay but Miller and Reneau on this team would have certainly helped. im on record not loving our PG decisions either, although I was optimistic about Conerway. Still think I like him more than Enright at times. We could have done a lot of things to bolster this roster and team but instead spent 1-3 million to ride the bench the entire season.
  22. Kind of a shame really. Hopefully we can get back to that at some point, especially if a player wants to.
