General Coach Candidate News
HoosierTrav replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If an IU guy is to get the job, then it would need to be Alford. I dont want him at all based off of his coaching ability and his track record as a human being, but he would give us the best chance to win, out of all the Indiana guys." -

What do you expect Chris? We're tired. If we spend our money on the product, shouldn't we be able to be upset when the product stinks? Shouldn't we reasonably be able to state our dissatisfaction and pull our support, without being ridiculed? We get it. You like Dane Fife. Well half of us don't and for good reason. He should be coaching UNC Asheville.. Not Indiana. Not until he's proven. If the university wants to save money then keep Archie Miller. If no proven coach wants this job, then give us transparency, so we can all adjust our expectations accordingly. Its completely reasonable for some of us to be frustrated with the prospect of hiring Dane Fife. I can't think of anything that would signal the proverbial waving of the white flag more, than hiring Dane Fife, at this juncture. -

If this is the reality, then keep Archie and we can all go find another team to root for. -

Many people are gonna disagree but I agree with you here. He's nowhere near qualified. His recruiting is way overblown. Does he recruit at that level without the name Izzo attached to him? Hell no! No real HC experience to show for it. If we are indeed trying to save money then I know everything I need to know about where this program is headed and I will be fully off the train and will never support this program again. I know that losing my support isn't much but there will be many more like me. Id bet my house that Dane Fife wouldn't win here. -

It’s better to have a lot than to have none. I’ve been on both extremes. Agreed. -
The recruits seem to be fortune tellers bc of the sharks in the water that Archie swims in. The opposing coaches absolutely plant seeds. Archie watered them.

Money doesn’t help you sleep at night. I promise. -
Arch’s resume is so goddamn bad. I don’t think he’s a terrible coach but he’s a terrible fit for Indiana. We are in such a deep hole that we absolutely have to hit a grand slam with the next hire. Dolson needs to swing for the fences. No more hiring a young up and comer. No hiring a guy who has flash in the pan seasons. And DEFINITELY not coaches who haven’t proven themselves at all (Fife). We need a big name and a big winner, period. That’s the only way we get out of this pit, imho. * I have to say this. Ive never been more embarrassed in my life to be an Indiana fan. The entire tournament is in Indiana. This will NEVER happen again in our lifetime’s. We will have our 5th straight season of not being able to pencil our teams name onto the bracket. There is no goddamn excuse for this ****. None. How has this been able to happen over 3 decades? We have a group of imbeciles running this program. ****!

I believe that the remaining buyout can be paid out over longer than the remaining 3 years as well.

Dane fife would be a worse hire than Archie. I can’t believe people actually think he’d win here. No history of consistently winning as a head of any program. The best I’ve heard anyone say is that he took IPFW from “god awful” to “meh” and that “he learned from a legend.” And we scrutinize Drew’s resume? Fife doesn’t unite the fanbase. Not even close. Let him go WIN SOMEWHERE FIRST! -

His 72 is much younger than Beilein’s 68. in all honesty I had no idea Hamilton was 72 years old. Wow. He doesn’t look it at all. -

Same. This resume is underwhelming. I don’t think he would meet expectations here. Leonard Hamilton is someone I think who could really recruit and win big here. -
Said this the other day. Adding Shrewsberry to the staff was massive. They are going to be in a final four in the next 4 years. Book it.

IU vs Michigan Game Thread - 2/27/21 Noon FOX
HoosierTrav replied to LIHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He has lived up to recruiting the state. That’s it. I’d even go as far as saying he’s recruited well enough to win here. This job has a way of shining a big, bright spotlight on a coach’s weaknesses. It’s going to take a very very special coach to get it done here. Unfortunately, I believe the job has become devalued so much, in the eyes of coaches, that we aren’t going to ever hire the right guy. We are in the abyss. -

Ainge has also stated something to the effect that "Brad Stevens job is the safest of anyone in the organization. Over any player they had." High praise in player first league. -

Was going to post the same response. I listened to the DP interview and he put that to rest. Actually convinced me that he may end up back in the college game at some point. -

I do often wonder if Indiana has ever attempted to put feelers out and make a run at Brad Stevens. He's the most obvious pick in the history of coaching candidates. I'd be beyond disappointed to find out we've never made an attempt. -

Same. If we hire an IU guy I'd rather it be someone from the professional ranks, such as Lawrence Frank. The idea of Alford or Fife horrifies me. -

My list of coaches. These are in order and display my wants and not necessarily who I think is realistic. 1. Brad Stevens 2. Chris Beard 3. Bruce Pearl 4. Leonard Hamilton -

I suppose I agree with you on that point alone. God, I hope we don't go down this path though. At this point, I'm in need of a really powerful catalyst to get me interested again. Fife would just make me slip further into my apathetic slumber. -

I agree wholeheartedly! When the change is eventually made, I'm glad that Dolson will be the guy pulling the trigger. If he can't get it done, Im not sure who would be able to. -

From the points you listed, you can say the same exact thing about Tom Crean. Crean even had more feathers in his cap at that point too, with the prior success at Marquette. I'm 100% convinced that Dane Fife would be a bad hire. He doesn't even have the resume of Archie Miller. Archie played basketball and he's a god awful here.
