(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.

started one. I started the Minnesota game thread so hopefully the luck continues! -
(2021) PF Trey Kaufman to Purdue

AND we now have two of them :) -
I get what you're saying but i think Crean's situation and Archie's are different. I disagreed with it in Crean's situation because he had already been here for 7-8 years and we saw what he was giving us. Archie is in year 3 and still hasn't had a full cycle with his players. He seems to be recruiting well in this state and 2021 is a huge year that could really elevate the program if it is stable. But yes, in the end I don't think this program should be making decisions based off 1 or 2 players.

(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.

“It’s a basketball state,” Lander said. “I feel like the fanbase is ridiculous. They love basketball and all their players that have been there.” This Lander quote sticks out to me. Gregg Doyel (you all know Im not a fan) can shove it. He was dogging the pregame hype video at assembly hall and how it needs to be changed to focus on IU and the current program rather than the state. Well the video specifically describes Indiana as a basketball state and all the great players that have come from Indiana as well as the passionate fanbase. If you're a high school player from this state, being recruited by IU, and you see that video at assembly hall, you know it is speaking directly to you. It would be very hard to ignore. Obviously not saying the video is the reason why he committed. Just that Archie and the staff have done a great job of recruiting the players of this state and selling them on staying home and playing for a state that lives and breathes basketball. That hype video is a part of that recruiting strategy. Kudos to the staff. -

So you mean it's probably not a good idea to fire Archie just yet? lol -

He looks to have a good stroke, especially for a lefty. He also looks to move well without the ball which will help play off of Rob. But again that is all based off highlights lol so I was just wanting some more in depth scouting. Thanks. -

I obviously have only seen highlights and the scouting reports on Lander. For those of you who know more about his game, how do you see him and Phinisee sharing the court together? I assume there will be times we run both of them out there and it isn't strictly a starter vs. backup rotation. Sorry if already discussed Although, they both will make each other so much better in practice. Big time for this program. -

A player like Goode becomes much more valuable with a PG like Lander. Kinda like the impact yogi had on nick Zeisloft. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Anyone remember when Jerry Meyer said IU wouldn’t be able to get 5 stars when Archie took over? Assuming lander reclassifies, Arch has gotten one in every freakin class. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Yeah it would be big time for this program. Although if this team goes 11-9 it probably puts them in an 8/9 matchup (against Ohio State or Michigan) in the BTT. That never works out well for IU lol

Obviously finishing the season 1-3 is the bare minimum. I predicted 19-12 before the season started and if we finished with that it will get us into the tournament, albeit with a very low seed. Finishing 2-2 is expected at this point and would show that this team has turned a corner and has progressed from its early BIG struggles. It would keep this team off the Wednesday games in the BIG tourney and probably an 8 seed in the NCAA. But man if this team could somehow finish 3-1, steal won of these games on the road and close out at home that is a lot of momentum going into post season. It would show real growth and improvement from last season and even within this season. Would be feeling pretty good about the direction of this program. Finish 4-0 and wow. It would be the most momentum this program has had in a LONG time. GO HOOSIERS.

Yeah I think Rutgers is in real trouble. Now I think if they win 1 more they are fine, but their last three games are brutal and they have shown no ability to win on the road (@PU and @ PSU remaining). I also have a hard time seeing them beating Maryland at home.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/28577356/ncaa-tournament-bubble-watch-updated-look-wildest-bubble-years Here's another example of a national writer (one with big ten ties even) stating that IU looks like an 11 seed. He also describes Minnesota's chances and believes its a long shot but still compares them to Indiana's (who he states is bubbly) solely because of their Net ranking. I don't get it.

To their defense they don’t do much of bracketology. One of the guys, Dylan burkhardt, does a pretty good job of covering big ten basketball and Michigan especially. He has been on podcast on the brink a few times. The other guy, Brandon Quinn is a writer for the athletic and covers Michigan state. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yesterday evening. They were going through the entire league buying/selling. They both sold on IU making the tournament. Was dumbfounded, but one of the guys is not a fan of Archie and this team and hasn’t been all year. But it’s mostly because people outside of IU fans and media don’t realize how good IU’s resume is. They see the road losses and the Net ranking and think IU still has a ways to go. It’s beyond me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I think we are as well. I was listening to the moving screen podcast today and they were saying how they would take Purdue and Minnesota’s chances over IU in terms of getting to the tournament. It’s weird how the media perceives IU’s resume. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

That's the thing, he doesn't need to do anything offensively, which is what your categorizing as his success. The argument is that he needs to accept his role as a defender and rebounder. Which is exactly what he did this week. AND that is what this article points out. Of course Race was the bigger story in that he is progressing like we hoped. But what does that have to do with an article on Justin accepting his role..?
-
Yeah lunardi is terrible. I still follow his brackets though just for a laugh as that is what gets pushed in the media and shapes some people's perspective. But I too wouldn't mind that draw. Although the fact he has us as one of the last four teams to receive a bye is utter nonsense.

https://www.insidethehall.com/2020/02/24/justin-smitcontinues-to-make-impact-felt-in-penn-state-win/ A week ago I was hard on Justin, especially with the rumors flying around about his attitude. The last two games have shown a Justin who is more willing to do the little things even when he isn't involved offensively. Especially yesterday. Credit where it is due, good job Justin. Hopefully there is more to come.

lol and your argument about moving pianos somehow didn't oversimplify basketball. have a good day brass. -

lol it's actually not even close to the same thing. Do you claim to be a person who moves pianos..? I would guess not. Al is and claims to be a basketball player. So asking him to do things a basketball player is expected to do should be expected. -

this is where I am at. Need a backup PG, yes. But to act like Al can be in a situation where he never has to make a decision on the court, and if he does it is the coach's fault is not something i can fathom being possible.
