Agreed. He had done more than enough to be considered for the job. But it means nothing at this point because we are three years in and he hasn't figure it out. Hope he does.

The Narrative around Miller after his elite 8 appearance was that he was a coach to watch but nobody seriously considered him as it was the only accomplishment he had to that point. He then followed that season up with a great coaching job and a second place finish. He then won two more tournament games and almost won a third. He then followed those two years up with consecutive league titles. He was widely considered the hottest young coach on the market along with Chris Mack. I strongly disagree with this assertion that the elite 8 is the reason he was hired or sought after. It's not even close to the truth.

Archie had more than just those three wins in March 2014. He won his league 2 out of the next 3 years and that third year that he didn't win he finished second. So the fact that he followed up his March 2014 run with two league titles and a second place finish is why schools sought after him. If Aaron Craft makes a floater he still has 4 straight tournament appearances and two regular season league titles. EDIT: the year that he didn't win the league and finished second is the year he didn't have a player over 6'6 as he had injuries and dismissals. That team went to the first four and won two straight tournament games. So he followed up his elite eight run with a second place finish and two more tournament wins. Please look at the whole picture

It’s tough seeing teams like northwestern and Nebraska compete on the road even though they suck, and IU can’t hardly keep road games within 20. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Do you think there is a good chance he does leave this year?
-
I think you may want to try and convince Justin of this........
-
I think we will have to agree to disagree. I see a player who struggles with any real offensive skill and the lineups/situations don't make a difference. I see that his role this year is completely different than last year but it's the same struggles. That isn't what you see and that is okay.
-
I have been tough on Justin. I so hope that he makes me eat crow and the next few games he really turns it on and we get a few W's. Would love that.

love that site. Thanks for sharing

Again, my biggest gripe with Archie. Doesn't make sense to me.
-
I think when locked in, Justin Smith is a great defender in this league. Last year he didn't let Lamar Stevens do anything at Penn State. He was a HUGE reason we won the Michigan State game on the road because of his defense and effort. Last week he shut down Joe Wieskamp and it was great. I don't think he should play nearly as much as he does because of his offensive issues, but if he has a great matchup where he can shut down someone on defense then he should play 30ish minutes. But again, that would require 2 things. First, Archie would have to be willing to make that change. Second, Justin would have to be willing to accept that role. Those are BIG ifs. As for production, I would actually argue that his production shows he has NO reason to be frustrated with this offense. It allows him to be the second most productive player DESPITE his flaws.
-
I strongly disagree that Smith has reason to be frustrated about not being able to post up or drive or shoot. Have you watched him try to post up? he does so 2-3 times a game and tries a turnaround hook shot which usually ends up a foot short. Or he gets blocked. He is the weakest finisher on the team. Have you watched him try to drive the last three years? It usually ends in a charge, a travel, or a blocked shot. The clogged lane issue was not there last year or the year before. And he is limited on the shots he can take? You want Justin Smith to have the green light from the perimeter? No way. Pile on Archie all you want but what you described just isn't the Justin Smith I have watched the last few years.

I know Race was injured that summer but not the entire time. I thought I remembered him playing with Matthew Hurt and those guys before he committed. -

Yeah it would take some preparation to graduate on time. But in terms of declaring there isn't a cutoff I don't think. -

just before the fall semester i assume. Race didnt reclassify until july when he committed -
This is what everyone else here is doing. But apparently it is okay for you to do so. If Archie fails, it will 100% be on Archie like everyone has said. Doesn't mean there won't be reasons for that failure, including players who didn't buy in and weren't dealt with.
-
LITERALLY every person in this discussion has said the blame goes on Archie for not handling this properly and benching them. LITERALLY. Did you just skip over that part?
-
Yes none of the players deserve any of the blame for giving up 90 points to Wisconsin and Michigan. Especially those who haven't bought in. DWS Besides the fact that last years defense was top 30 and Justin Smith was already allegedly causing these problems.
-
Didn't realize that was what this board was supposed to do. Forgive us, sir. good grief
-
I remember most fans excited, me included, that Archie was able to keep the 2017 class together as well as a majority of the team when he was hired. Most saw that it wouldn't be as big of a rebuild. Well it doesn't seem that any of those players have bought in and it has done more harm than good.
-
This is my feeling as well. Beyond me why that player still sees the floor. My biggest gripe with Archie, and i think most fans, is his unwillingness to hold players accountable for play on the court.

I doubt it is.... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Honestly DeRon has been more capable than Joey lately. I hate to Joey bash as I really like him as a person and teammate. But he has a role he could play, it just isn't the one he has.
-
I am not faulting Joey Brunk for what he is. He could have a really good role to play on this team as an energy guy that gets rebounds and put backs. Not as a primary post option. So yes, I am blaming this staff for continually putting him in bad spots offensively and defensively.
-
a bit on him yes. He did not have a great game. But when you continually watch Joey Brunk catch it from 15 feet out and back someone down for 10 seconds while everyone else stands around you might be like the rest of us and get a little frustrated.
