Thinking back on Crean. His recruiting picked up and looked promising then fell back off. Connecting some invisible dots it seems possible he recruited well but lost to some with money. Even the playing field and maybe he does a little better at his next stop because there may be less cheating going on. Sure he still has some game coaching issues but heck a lot of coaches have those too. It will be interesting to watch that amid this unfolding story. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I think the most clever thing along these lines was the amount of country music we played during Codys visit. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Cody Zeller's Relative Importance to IUBB
8bucks replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So how do you define program changer? If your definition includes winning a championship then you can miss all the steps in between. When you look at the massive turn around in wins before and after Cody you have consider that program changing. When you consider joining a team at the bottom of the BT standings and getting them a BT championship you have to consider that program changing. When you consider he joined a team that did not sniff a post season tournament to being the best team in the country most of the year (look at all the top 10 teams we beat that year at home and on the road). We competed for a national title by being one of the best teams all year and getting a number 1 seed. We did come up short but if you can't see how the program changed in large part because of Cody you are just not trying. Dakich, goofball that he is, said it best. Cody made it cool to play at IU again. Yogi does not come if Cody is not here and without Cody and Yogi we do not have the 2 BT titles. Sometimes a program changer is the guy who turns you from a doormat to a contender. Then the next program changer takes you to a title. Both are important because you don't get the second if you don't have the the first. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy
8bucks replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
True but the last two top NBA draft picks came from losing programs that did not make the tournament. Bryce only has to remind him that scouts will find you. They found him at Valpo. Bryce also will be able to convince him Vandy will be in the NCAAs which is going to be helpful. Great campus too and if they can land these two they will have a great atmosphere for their games. (2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

I don't see why folks make that out to be a big deal. Especially for bright kids like Romeo. If he turns out to be a lottery pick he will get a shoe deal with anyone he wishes. If he falls and is just a good player going into the NBA I doubt adidas is going to say well since you went to an adidas college here is a shoe deal. I have been down for many visits and they never once asked if I wanted to put on a uniform and get a photo. -

If he can learn that "3" part then i agree. He has not shown the ability to hit that shot very well -
Well yeah me too but it was interesting to hear a national guy saying many of the same things and a few more. Most of them keep that info out of public because coaches feed them info. He, if it was him, seemed to go out of his way to bash Crean.
-
How so?
-
Didn't Meyer recently give an interview where he bashed Crean pretty hard?
-
Can we schedule the Zander - Dakich Octagon for this weekend then at memorial stadium
-
Yeah he cannot really get a grade pro or con for a little bit - unless of course his picks this year all bomb out early. We also cannot suggest he is doing really well for a few years.
-
Yep this is what I think as well. The roster is so bad that we need a few years to build that up. Let Pagano take some of those lumps this year.
-
With a bad roster it takes a few years to rebuild. Put a new coach in this year and as they rebuild the inevitable losses pile up on what might be a good coach. So you let Pagano stay this year. Add some more picks and replace next year. Next years coach will still struggle but should start to see a benefit in year 2 yrs. had we replaced coaches this offseason then those losses pile up for a coach that has no team to coach.
-
So the same posters that said the first part were the same ones that said the second part?
-
Glad there was gas all the way. With the refineries down for Harvey that could have been really bad.
-
The difference between CuJo and really anyone on our roster is that CuJo can create separation with his defender to get a shot. Now the majority of the shot clock he is not as productive but he is probably the only guy that can get a pretty clean shot off. So far these shots, except vs Kansas, have not gone in but if he starts to find a rhythm he may really be hard to guard.

I agree. Where we lack 5 star talent we hopefully make up for it with senior 4 star talent. If Archie can get Creans guys to buy in then we can have a very good year

This is the seismic change we heard about.

Torn ACL. Out for the season. -
The way New England turns one teams junk into gold probably won't help. With Julian out Dorset may become a star there.

Remember when Davis took over and suddenly Coverdale became a big time player? He could not get on the court with RMK and then boom he is a key player on our FF team. I would not be surprised to see someone have a similar jump in value this time around. Maybe not as big as Coverdales jump was but big nonetheless. Thus when I read that this guy will or that guy will be key for us this year, I am hopeful that we have a few guys we don't mention much have breakout years. The Morgan and CuJo talk may be some of this and hopefully we have a few pleasant surprises once the team starts to play.

Heard Don Fischer on the radio this afternoon and he mentioned that the coaches wanted him to get tougher. To learn to compete for balls in the air rather than wait for them to come to him. Fisch mentioned that putting him on ST may have been the coaches attempt at getting this out of him. -

Gotcha that is different from what I thought and is a pretty good sign. Thanks for the clarity
