Oct 31 - Btown Banners Poll: Preseason Edition
Str8Hoosiers replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So very interesting to see the results vs my ballot... I agree we should wait for the first weekend before submitting a new ballot, another preseason poll shouldn't/wouldn't change much. Sorry about typing entries Brass, I will ensure I use the dropdowns next time. -
Submitted my Preseason ballot today.... Very interesting look at the overall landscape of College Basketball by doing this.

Does this still only work if you have a Gmail account? Or did you start using a different platform? And when I click on the link for the Ballot it doesn't pull up.... Just gives an error message

Anybody in line for this yet? Curious how many people waiting outside? Curious to the expectations/excitement level on campus etc... -
Official 2016-17 IUBB Preseason Thread
Str8Hoosiers replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Just now watching the practice.. at 1 point Crean talking about all I McDs players in his time playing in NBA and couldn't remember the 3rd name... I couldn't either on the spot thinking about it.. but it definitely shows the difference between the IU guys and the guys that played at IU. -
Yea, my wife is a huge UofL fan and we live just across the river so we go to a lot of UofL events. I wasn't overly impressed by VJ King.... He went a long time scoreless, but after he finally broke through he ended up being one of the top scorers for the game. His shot wasn't smooth and he seemed to force... He was often out of position on defense, and Pitino seemed to get on him more than any other player on the floor for mistakes. That being said he did show that if he puts it all together he could be a good player.

I went to the UofL Intra-squad scrimmage last night and it gave me an idea.... we should have a thread for anybody that goes to any games against our future opponents to discuss what we see.... Specifically I am thinking in relation to how they will play against us, and the lesser known players on a given team. So for 12/31 matchup with UofL here are some Scouting Reports (Attn Crean & Staff if reading this) Team doesn't appear too deep at most positions but is very BIG up Front. After 1 week at practice and with a short bench (because the team was split into 2 teams) they still pressed full court most of the game, going to have to ensure we are ready for pressure defense and they seem to focus heavily on coming from behind the ball handler and going for the ball. Unknown Sharp Shooter: Ryan McMahon is a sophomore who can shoot ala Steph Curry... He shoots with a high arc and a really fast release... he went 6-7 or so in the scrimmage form deep.... he is a defensive and ball handling liability but if he gets in the game we MUST protect the 3 point line because he can change things in a hurry. Weakness: They do not finish well in the paint. They miss more bunnies and layups by multiple 7 footers than I have ever seen. If we control their guards and force them to play through the bigs we have an above average chance that they will miss the gimmies... They also seem to be a little foul prone. They go hard after blocked shots (See Strengths) but this leads to some fouls as well as reach in fouls going for steals. Strengths: Size, they are tall and they are very active defensively looking for Blocked Shots. Donovan Mitchell can really jump for a guard and goes hard after blocks especially from behind the play. They have 2 7 footers who seem to be pretty good at being in position defensively and go after the blocks.

What did he say? That graphic shows us something we have all known and hated for a long time. When our 6th toughest game is easier than anything UofL schedules. 9 of 14 games in top 100 for them, 9 of 14 outside the top 100 opponents for us.... and UK is basically the same.
-
I always thought Bradford was underrated... I think IF he stays healthy (Which us a big if with him) then he could be exactly what the Vikings need.... Teddy was just as unproven and although this was supposed to be his year who really knows, and after a severe injury like this even if he is physically cleared to play next season he may never be the same... Vikings only have a few years left with AP so they have to take the shot while the opportunity exists.
-
Four of the first five at home... Get the boys plenty of confidence and make everybody else play uphill to catch us! I don't see any really tough 3 game (or more) stretches so this makes me feel really good about or chance to defend the crown.

Just purchased tickets for the UofL game... so pumped... Can't wait to spend New Years Eve rooting on our Hoosiers

Average Joe BB thread!

Very nice Shooting X... although something doesn't add up... 20/25 + 23/25 doesn't equal 37/50.... but impressive shooting regardless. I love the wing bank shot... I got really good at it for a while but haven't practiced it recently, I am sure I could not go 37/50 today so.... -
Revenge on our minds as UNC comes into Assembly next year!!! I can not wait for that game....
-
Is that a Clipper decision? Are they only allowed to work out so many guys or just didn't have time to do both?
-
I am pretty sure he is done... I thought he graduated, I saw pictures of him in his Cap & Gown with our other graduates.....
-
While I agree he is not a great 3 point shooter, to diminish the 75% effort for lack of attempts while at the same time bashing him for "he jacks up early threes in transition with no conscience". 4 attempts in two games doesn't sound like jacking up threes with no conscience to me.. And if they are falling for that game then why not jack them up..
-
How many Steph Curry 3s are bad shots? If you are shooting 75% there is no reason not to take a "bad three".. If you are consistently making them it stops being considered a bad shot.
-
I wouldn't think so but I guess I just wasn't sure since he declared what it would mean
-
No invite for JBJ then? Still could get individual team workouts and feedback correct?
-
Could he just take whatever classes he wanted? Like start on a 2nd Degree or something? I don't know the NCAA rules surrounding it but I would think he would be able to go after dual degrees or something if he so desired.

I think we get Virginia this year.... Very tough matchup

Declaring early for the draft
Str8Hoosiers replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That would open it up.... Edit - just looked it up and I guess they are right on now, but would need somebody to leave to add Bolden 10 scholarship players last year, 2 gone, 5 recruits... -
Declaring early for the draft
Str8Hoosiers replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
But do they have room for all those freshman and Bolden? I was thinking they were already over and with Allen staying I don't know where they could find scholarship for Bolden too? -
IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?
Str8Hoosiers replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Kyle Kuric gave up his scholarship at UofL and became a walk on... This was a few years back and rules may have changed but I don't think there is any rules against it.
