Recommended Posts

The Indiana women's basketball team improved to 6-0 to start the season with an 85-69 victory over Saint Louis on Monday night at Assembly Hall.

The unbeaten record to start the year is the team's best start since 2000-2001 and marks just the eighth time in school history the team has stayed undefeated through six games.

The Hoosiers had two players in double figures, led by senior Tabitha Gerardot's 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

Indiana (6-0) drained 12 three-pointers on the night, the second-biggest output in program history.

Sixth-year senior Sasha Chaplin netted the first five points for the Hoosiers and freshman Larryn Brooks scored the next five as Indiana jumped out to a 10-2 lead. Brooks finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and has scored in double figures in every game this season.

Indiana held Saint Louis (2-4) without a field goal for 7:11 in the first half, during which the Hoosiers went on a 17-2 run to increase the lead to 27-7.

The Billikens cut the lead to 41-25 with 3:11 to play in the first half after a 7-0 run, but the Hoosiers finished the first half on a 10-4 run to lead 51-29 at the half. The 51 points represent the most points scored in a half this year (as well as the most in the Curt Miller era) and the most points since a 55-point output against Virginia on Nov. 26, 2009.

Indiana increased its lead to 57-37 at the under-16 timeout with 15:17 to play in the second half.

The Hoosier advantage ballooned to 30-point lead (85-55) with 5:16 to play in the game after a 3-point basket from freshman Karlee McBride. McBride finished with a career-high nine points on 3-of-5 shooting, all from behind the arc.

Overall, Indiana shot 52.7 percent from the field (29-of-55) and 46.2 percent from the 3-point line (12-26).

The Hoosiers next take on USC Upstate on Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. in Assembly Hall.
