Class of '66 Old Fart

(2017) PF Billy Preston to Kansas

Recommended Posts

St. Mary's argument isn't equal to ours. They returned the bulk of a successful roster. Not ranked on paper but by the groups collective success.

Our roster will be depleted of its 3 best players. Will take a lot of projection to guess if we'll be good with no great recruits incoming.

They are ranked 17th on paper. I'm saying even with og, Bryant, and jbj leaving next year, next year's iu team would have more talent then a team ranked preseason 17th, which is why in my opinion iu would be ranked in the 20-25 range next year at the minimum. But lots of time between now and then to change my opinion. Maybe they get better or maybe they get worse

I thought I heard this somewhere but isn't Bridges MSU's first ever 5*? I'm disappointed we didn't land any of our top-level targets and can fully understand the wasted resources argument. That said, I think we'll be top 5 in the B1G next year and could even surprise some and finish top 3. I'm assuming we will get a grad transfer and likely Tucker in this argument too. It's pretty important that we perform well in March this year and make a run to stay relevant on the national stage. We'll get more respect next year if we do.

Bridges is probably his first top 10 recruit

I also wouldn't call beating up on +200 teams rpi as being successful. 2 top 50 wins isn't going to get you in the tournament( the only way they had 2 top 50 wins was because gonzaga beat them in the wac championship game which pushed gonzaga in the top 50 rpi

Maybe I'm mistaking this for the '16 class being Izzo's best ever??

This article from ITH gives a good analysis of the past 5 years. Doesn't factor in transfers but IU is top in the B1G.

yeah we're top of the big ten but we are trending downward. That's my concern.

In recruiting as shown in the article posted by somebody else in the quoted portion of my post. I know you are just wanting to jump on anything but really read the context of the post first.

Hopefully trending downward in recruiting like it shows doesn't turn into trending downward on the court. Hopefully we can still stay close to the top on court in the big 10 just like Michigan st showed they could do when they trended down in recruiting in 2013-14

Now this year, MSU is down by their own standards EVEN with their best recruiting class ever because of previous recruiting misses.

That's how it works.

Why do we follow this so closely? Lol. Injuries more then recruiting misses would be their problem this year in my opinion. Plus this is the first year izzo  has had to rely on freshman this early. Always an adjustment period for a coach doing something new. Losing 2 games to top 10 teams on a neutral court probably shouldn't of come as a surprise

Wisconsin is probably the best anti-rankings argument that can be made.

Even I don't think player rankings are the end all be all.

Problem (for me) is, I want to better than Wisconsin and MSU. I'd like to be like Kansas or Duke as far as national respect at some point.

That's all. I'm not asking much, right?

I have really high hopes and expectations for the program. So it's probably not fair.

I think we could do it at some point though, but any slip in momentum sets us back a ways.

Well if we went to a final four I'm sure we'd be satisfied.

But as I had said before Crean has had mixed success with high levels of talent I'm not anxious to see us without it.

Ok I was just pointing out in Michigan st down years in recruiting they still went to a final 4 and won 2 BTT titles and played for another. The coach has a lot to do with that and to be fair they also lost to a 15 seed last year with their "down year" recruits

I want the same thing and have been wanting that since losing to Kansas in 93. Unfortunately I don't think this can happen with crean as coach I'm not saying he isn't a good coach I'm just saying to get to that level you will need a hall of fame type coach

Have a couple more down recruiting cycles and the on the court results suffer. Then hire a hall of fame type coach. Or hopefully crean proves me wrong and becomes a Hall of fame type coach and we get number 6. From all the basketball I have watched early there is no reason to believe that we can't this year
