Hoosiers win the series opener 7-6.  We led 6-3 into the 8th when the Illini tied it up but Pyne with an RBI single in the 9th for the win.  We had 14 hits with Whalen going 4-5.  Jessee, Pyne, Mathison and Doanes each went 2-4.  Pyne had 3 RBIs and Jessee had 2.  Perkins started and went 5.2 innings but struggled with control giving up 7 hits, walking 4, throwing a WP and hitting 2 batters and threw a total of 128 pitches.  Somehow, he only allowed 2 Illinois runs.  Holderfield and Sharp finished mound duties.

First of all... good win. They basically never squared us up. Lots of hits.. very,  very weak contact though.

Sucks we moved the game up. (It was the right call, but holy cow this is a gorgeous day) haha

Max Johnson unintentionally almost gave that game away on his own with a huge error and stupid decision to try to score on a wild pitch.

Fortunately Pyne bailed him out and everything worked out. Johnson has been really good filling in for Glasser lately but today he almost became the punching bag single-handedly.

Just when you think our season may be taking a turn for the better, reality hits you like a bucket of ice water on a hot day.  In the 6th inning the Illini scored 10, yes 10 runs just in the 6th and lead 16-0.  They've pounded out 15 hits off Brehmer and Kraft who together walked 7.  Compounding the problem is sloppy fielding resulting in 3 Hoosier errors.  Kraft relieved Brehmer in the 6th and faced 11 batters.  He gave up 7 hits, 3 BB and 8 earned runs throwing 41 pitches.  That's about as bad as it can get.

Hoosiers take Sunday's game 11-7.  We had 11 hits in the game with Mathison hitting 2 HRs to drive in 5 runs and Ellis with a 2-run HR.  Jessee, Mathison and Goforth each with 2 hits in the game.  The Illini led 7-3 after the 3rd as they scored 5 runs in their half of the inning all of the runs charged to Tucker.  Bothwell and Sharp pitched 7 innings and only allowed 1 more run to score.  Score remained 7-3 until the 5th when our bats exploded and we scored 8 runs.   No mid-week games scheduled this week.  Next weekend we'll be in Ann Arbor.
