Matta won't be developing players although he'll be able to direct Woody and the assistants.  Matta was able to land a ton of talent at O$U.

2007 - Koufos, Turner Diebler all top 50

2008 - Mullens, Buford top 25

2010 - Sulinger, Thomas, Sibert all top 50

2011 - Scott, Ross, Thompson top 50 Williams just outside top 50

2013 - Loving, Williams top 75

2014 - Russel, Bates-Diop top 50 Tate just outside

2015 - Lyle top 50 Giddens just outside top 50

I'd frame it up as  national ranking (# of 5 stars) and tourney status

I'd also include all the years, not just the good ones. The stars came later, after the success.

Butler

2000 - NR - R32

Xavier

2001 - NR - R32

2002 -NR - R32

2003 - not top 50 - E8

OSU

2004 - #39 (0) - ineligible

2005 - no signees - R32

2006 - #3 (2) - Runner up

2007 - #5 (1) - NIT Champ

2008 - #5 (2) - R64

2009 - no signees - S16

2010 - #3 (2) - S16

2011 - #6 (0) - F4

2012 - not top 50 - E8

2013 - #39 (0) - R64

2014 - #6 (1) - R32

2015 - #5 (0) - NIT 2R

2016 - #42 (0) - NA

So 8 elite five star kids in 17 years. And 6 of 8 were from 3 years.

Not saying he didn't get talent, but the talent followed the success. And he coached and developed to get to that level of success.

I also am not sure he won't help in developing. No reason he can't be at practice.

I believe only the head coach and assistants can work with players, per the rules. What actually happens who knows.

I'm not sure of the rules, but thought I saw some say he can recruit, just not go on recruiting visits. And he can work with the players, just not be on the bench during games.

Could be totally wrong. IDK? I do know FB programs have a lot of creative mixes. Bama for instance has all kinds of non-assistants recruiting (not visits), and helping with coaching (at practice, and in the box, not sideline).

I'll spend some time looking for the rules tonight after a cocktail.

I believe when Cheaney was DOBO he wasn't allowed to instruct players.  I could have that completely wrong, the mind is a bit fuzzy these days.

My mind is fuzzy :103:. I have had 2 cocktails while watching IU. lol. Not sure at all on the rules. I was going to research, but spent all night on the phone with family. When I settle in tonight or tomorrow, going to google more. Not sure if there's a lot of published data on the topic though. I think it's an thinly addressed topic.
