  1. Idk enough about CDD past teams but I feel like when he was building this roster others said he doesn’t get many bigs because he really wants his offense to be predicated on 3 point shooting so the bigs aren’t true bigs or rim protectors. Shooters not bangers. Now we all knew Woody only recruited bigs so it was going to be a change but not getting much to compete in the B1G…was a little baffling. I do think he went after talent he just wasn’t going to get. Maybe that’s where Carr comes in to help. Wilkerson certainly is talented enough the rest are questionable at times. I have to wonder if he knew enough about the B1G to construct this roster? I guess maybe he assumed Tucker would be better than he has been? I honestly don’t know the answer. I felt like he really got whatever was left that he could afford to pay given what I’m sure we paid Tucker, Lamar, and Bailey. Carr is here in some form or fashion to take the heat off of CDD and IMO take the lead with roster construction. Has to be better moving forward for sure.
  2. Agreed. Could not understand at all why he didn't see the floor during the Purdue blowout. The question was asked at the press conference, and the answer just didn't make any sense. Some rumblings on twitter that they hope he's not leaving. I hope that's not the case. He will be a B1G contributor in the upcoming years...
  3. I've said since we won...nothing hurts me we are football national champions. This basketball team hasn't affected me in years but even less so these last couple of seasons due to football. Love being a football school!
  4. Very similar yet different as many have mentioned. Nebraska leaving for the B1G really hurt them IMO. They aren't doing themselves any favors in the B1G and it doesn't look like they will get better any time soon. And their location sucks so there's that also. As we know...its very hard to bring back a blue blood that hasn't seen success since the stone ages LOL I think this hire Scott did go after others but really could not get anyone to come. No need to leave your program to come here to clean up/revive an old, struggling blue blood. Similar to reasons Cig won't leave IU to revive the Alabamas of the world in football. If you have a good thing going, why move into a pressure cooker unnecessarily when you can win where you are at? We have made so many horrible coaching hires since Coach Knight. You wouldn't think it would be this hard to get it right, but we are past the point of no return in getting an established big-time coach. I really have no idea what the answer is. We've had old IU players, Crean who was splashy-ish at the time, up and comers like Archie that failed miserably...seems we've tried many different paths all leading to the same results. Disheartening to say the least.
  5. For sure. I don't have any reason to think CDD doesn't want to succeed here. I think if Dolson feels this is a necessary action to move the program forward, I would venture to guess CDD is on board with it. I just think maybe he wasn't prepared for how big the job is here...how much pressure, maybe the landscape of the B1G, or even that it wouldnt be easier to recruit to IU. All guesses. Hopefully Carr is the answer, and the ship gets turned around.
  6. I think fans are so apathetic at this point. They want to believe we have found the next person to turn this ship around but just like the last 25 years it's apparent even with 10 million we still aren't capable of beating teams consistently and going to the tournament (sorry don't think we win out to get in this season). Football on the other hand is exciting and something to look forward to. I think any IUBB fan that loves IU likely just turned their attention to the sport that is worth watching and winning. I want the basketball program to be good again. I'd love to look forward to basketball again every season. Get excited about recruiting and anticipate how far we can go in the tournament. Hopefully before I'm dead, I'll see that again...
  7. Agreed but does Carr really have the time to hit a homerun given the time frame he's coming in AND most importantly can we get players to come to IU given CDD's lack of success this season? How many players really care about 'bringing IU back to relevance?' Seems like all the coaches sell that line to recruits. The younger generation does not care about our dusty banners. They have not seen us relevant in their lifetime. Pacer fan since the Reggie days also. I hope Carr works out regardless of CDD. I am with you on how to assess the hire and it would be a good topic of discussion for another thread. Interested to see others views as well.
  8. haha yea that was pretty bad. But unsurprising given Woody's ego. I would think if this is Dolson's call, he is going to insist CDD find a way to work thru this. I guess CDD could always look to another job if this isn't what he wants but I feel this is absolutely necessary given today's landscape in college sports.
  9. If you listen to the interview with Carr, he says it's going to take a few years to get the roster more balanced to where it needs to be. So I am guessing that CDD gets at least 3 if not 4 years. Unless we are keeping Carr around and he's hiring the next coach...
  10. Exactly. I don't see that Darien initiated this. I am sure he's accepted that its necessary, but I doubt he was the one that thought of this first.
  11. It was obvious we swung for the fences and missed. We had to take who would come. We need an up and coming coach. Someone young and hungry that CAN coach, can make adjustments, and has the charisma to coach at IU. DeVries will get a few more years. But so far unimpressed from staff and roster construction to coaching. His press conferences leave me feeling he is in over his head. I want to be wrong and see him succeed if for nothing else that we don't have to go through Brad watch again in 2 years but I suspect we will all be falling for the Brad talk once again when CDD gets the boot.
  12. This was my reaction to the hire. Great hire but why...it's obvious that they are trying to be proactive because maybe they see a deficiency in DeVries' talent evaluation, roster construction/management, ability to juggle NIL/GM/talent eval/recruiting. I'm not sold on DeVries. I actually think this hire is something they put in place for a reason. Possibly the 'GM' gets to help hire the next coach should this experiment with DeVries not work. The L last night certainly did nothing to reassure me we won't be starting over in a few years.
  13. I think anyone we take would have to be in the portal currently correct? I think anyone in can transfer after spring classes but they have to be in the portal already. I was thinking grad transfer but idk how that works if you have to be in the portal to be a grad transfer as well. Really dumb to do away with spring portal.
  14. Absolutely. He's up and coming. I won't be surprised at all to see him as a HC at some point. I firmly believed when he got to IU it was to get experience he needed to become an OC in the NFL. He was co-OC/lead QB coach going from a pass game consultant/quality control qb assistant. I knew he had ties to the Tampa OC and was not surprised at all that he left. I figured if he stayed, he was only one more year as a rental until he left to go back to the NFL. I would be shocked if Cig did not know that when he was hired what his goals were. College football is a grind with recruiting, the portal, and dealing with 18-22 year olds. If you are coming from the NFL, it's likely you either are coming to gain experience or you weren't as successful and decided you would go back to college to have more success. I am waiting for Matt Patricia and Arthur Smith at OSU to jump back to the NFL. They won't be long at OSU when the right opportunity comes calling.
  15. I do listen to them regularly. It's a good podcast and this one is a good listen.
  16. Agreed. I don't think Cig views Tino as an upgrade. I've said it before but if you listen to one of Fernando's interviews he talks about crediting Whitmer with bringing in a weekly process that Whitmer got from Herbert that was Drew Brees process. He and Alberto mentioned how helpful that was in growing this season. Tino had no ill will from Cig when he left. Tino developed several qbs for Cig at JMU and Roarke at IU. I am sure since Tino was available and he knows the processes/is proven, it was a no brainer. I personally believe Whitmer was a bit of an upgrade from Tino. That doesn't take away from Tino but I am sure there are things Whitmer has taken from the NFL that were fresh and beneficial that hopefully Cig can continue using with his QBs going forward.
  17. I feel the same way. If you listen to Fernando talk in interviews about Whitmer he brought some processes that were not in place prior that both Fernando and Alberto benefited from. Hopefully Cig keeps going with that under Hoover and has Tino seamlessly plug in the same routines. I would be shocked if even Cig didn’t have a clue that Whitmer was only here short term. I thought when he was brought in this was likely for him to gain experience as co-oc and head qb coach since he was an asst qb coach prior. Whitmer is up and coming. Id guess he will have an OC job in the next few years and at some point somewhere become at HC.
  18. Have the same question. Will be very interesting to see the hire? Have to imagine Cig knew this was coming so he’s prepared and has a plan in place.
  19. It will be interesting to see if he stays committed if others start to come after him. Likely depends on who is in his ear around him.
  20. Agreed. I’m in NWI. Will have to try and catch him playing in the fall.
  21. I thought I read Fickell let Bostad go when he came in and Allen hired him on? Either way their loss was our gain. Thankfully he wanted to stay when Cig came in. I’m quite certain Cig knows Bostads value. I saw the interview that he said he saw Bostad was on staff and immediately reached out to see if he would stay on. Bostad is elite and would be as big of a loss as anyone on our staff.
  22. I’m sure this was always a stepping stone. He came from the NFL. He’s likely got aspirations to be an OC. He was an asst qb coach prior to coming to IU. He took the year got experience as the main QB coach and co offensive coordinator. If he isn’t gone this cycle and develops Hoover into a superstar then he will be gone next season. I saw him and Cig disagree a few times during the season. I doubt it was much more than Cig being Cig in the heat of the game. Whitmer will be a big loss when he leaves. I do think he likely brought some things in that Cig will continue with even after hiring the next QB coach. I’d be shocked if Tino isn’t waiting in the wings to come back.
  23. HS recruiting is such a joke anymore. They commit and decommit as often as they change underwear. I don't even take the commitment very serious until they actually sign and start classes. It's a sad state of affairs when it comes to these high school guys. I almost feel like they commit to the first high major school that offers to see what other offers that brings to see if they can get better. Idk what would be better than being a part of a national championship winning level program but hey if you want to go to Nebraska instead more power to you. There will be others that want the spot.
  24. Going to miss this team. What a great group they were. Their leadership will be sorely missed next year.
