  1. Im plenty ok if Dolson doesn’t prioritize “winning the press conference”. Stevens is the grand slam but there are still plenty of home run hires out there.
  2. Yeah, while he doesn’t “excite” me I’d be foolish to not be happy with what he’s done at UCLA. A F4 and two sweet 16s in 5 years is pretty good, and one of those seasons was the COVID cancelled tourney.
  3. Now that NIL is in place though we should be a much more desired destination. Regardless of how the Stevens situation plays out.
  4. Sticking with this.
  5. Until Brad says he’s out, I’m in.
  6. For clarity: this is Stevens or another candidate we’d be happy about?
  7. To the point: Yes, Cignetti was a great hire and showed some coaches can make the leap from lower level competition to higher level competition. But this isn’t definitive and is not indicative of how we should pursue our basketball hire. The football program has always been a laughing stock whereas, at least historically, the basketball program is top tier. This is why the approach should be different and IU should start at the absolutely highest level when considering candidates.
  8. Some people somehow think being cynical about everything is smart. I think that explains what you’re running into here and what we’ve seen in other threads.
  9. The way we’ve shot for the last decade you’d think our shooting coach was Dick Cheney.
  10. St Louis was 13-20 last year so that’s already a pretty solid turnaround.
  11. Yep, NIL has changed everything.
  12. Brad himself said he has the itch to coach. Didn’t specify at which level.
  13. Reading some of this discussion, I don’t think people understand basic probabilities. Is it probable that Stevens comes to IU? Doubtful. Is the probability that Stevens comes to IU zero? No. The information being provided suggests that the probability of him joining this time around is higher than last time. That doesn’t mean “100%” and just because he didn’t join last time doesn’t make it “0%”. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
  14. Had heard $6m as well and that it could have been more if requested. We’ve got deep pockets for “NIL”.
  15. Seeing two Pearl Jam’s in there made me happy.
  16. I’d be ecstatic about Beard, but that’s my point. If he’s the floor we should be very excited. I say this because this is a make or break hire and you know they’re not gonna “roll the dice”. We’re almost guaranteed to get a proven commodity. And of the proven commodities that we’d go after, all of them are top 10-15 type coaches.
  17. The reason I’m optimistic this go around is purely based on NIL. This didn’t exist when Woodson was first hired. Given we’re apparently top-5 for NIL, this is going to be a very desirable job. Doesn’t mean we get Stevens, but I think someone like Beard is the floor this go around and that’s so much better than Woodson.
  18. I’ll see myself out.
  19. Just don’t start the damn two bigs lineup and we win this. Sheesh.
  20. Gonna guess the team steps up for their coach in this one. IU- 78 Michigan- 76
  21. Woodson still thinks he can turn it around.
  22. I think so, at least for straight salary. I know Self was close to 10m but not quite there last I checked.
  23. One is a backup quarterback for the Steelers. The other the men’s basketball coach at USC.
