  1. Agreed here. Just seems more likely that Woodson underperforms versus the talent we’ve acquired. Would love to be wrong. And I don’t think it’s “he doesn’t know how to coach”. Instead I think it’s “he doesn’t know how to coach college basketball” which is just a different beast than the NBA. He seems to do well with the NBA talent on the roster, he just doesn’t do anything with the rest of the roster.
  2. So successful! And as he has told us, he has done his job. Had us right there with powerhouses like Richmond, Yale, and Umass.
  3. Also, too much experimenting hurts if you don’t win by enough even early in the year.
  4. I mean, if you look at the metrics from last year then Trey is better than Carlyle by a lot. So we’re hoping on potential here more than Carlyle objectively being better than Trey at this point in his career. I still think our best lineup will be Rice, Carlyle, Gallo, Mgbako, Ballo. Best combination of offense and defense we can put on the court at once with skill sets that compliment each other.
  5. Heh, I moved away 30 years ago and I have not returned. :)
  6. I grew up in Clarksville many moons ago.
  7. I think anything short of a 7-seed in the tourney should be fire able with this level of talent, barring a run to the sweet 16. A truly good coach would have this team in the top-10 though IMO. Sneaking into the tournament would be an awful coaching job.
  8. Yeah “should” and “will”, we’ll see how it goes. Completely agree that we’d be better off getting Reneau 15 minutes at the 5 versus any of our current portal options. You need backup size “just in case” but whoever we bring in is a “use in case of emergency” player at this point. Start Rice, Carlyle, Goode or Galloway, Mgabko, Ballo with Reneau subbing in for Ballo at the 5 while trying to limit their overlap. You still have Reneau at the 4 for 10+ minutes a game but this, IMO, is the best use of our front court given how the roster is currently constructed.
  9. Yeah, the lack of hype over Tucker is something the found myself getting excited about. And I say that because normally we’d be expecting a 5-star to come in and have to be a major contributor for the season to go well, but we’ve brought in so much talent that it doesn’t seem like a requirement. He may be the 7th or 8th guy on this team at the start of the year, that’s crazy.

  11. “We hope with what we’ve heard about his work ethic he remains a Hoosier and continues to grow so that by his Junior year he can be a major contributor to a winning team.”
  12. If/when he’s gone from IU there isn’t a serious school that would consider him for the job. But sunshine pumpers like to ignore that one. Everyone in the country outside of some portion of the IU fan base can see this.
  13. You get out of this thread with your facts! We need a snarky reply that adds nothing to the conversation… like this one!
  14. What can I say, I was being patient :) The lack of bad play was obvious in our first few games, and the poorly constructed roster obvious before the season began. But even then I was supportive of Woodson as our coach until February or so, I’m still a homer and just want us to do well. But I jumped on the “ok, he needs to go train” in February when the lack of accountability just kept being more apparent and his hubris was unbearable for me.
  15. Sounds like we’re in similar boats although the Rabby stuff didn’t affect my opinion as I was already over the fence once that came out. I’ll be cheering for the team, and Woodson, to do well this season. The new additions give me hope. The skeptic in me says he’ll find ways to have the team underperform and will still allow lesser teams to torch us from 3 because we “play big” while somehow still being a bad rebounding team and missing our free throws. I’d love nothing more than to be wrong here and to be turned into a “let Woody cook” type by mid season.
  16. Yeah, for me we were on track the first 2 years. Year 3 was a massive failure though. Even then, I was on board with Woodson up until about February. He lost me when he just kept blaming anyone and anything but himself for the results on the court. I was willing to look past a down year, and a terrible style of basketball apparently, but lacking proper accountability was what turned me.
  17. Year 1 they’d get some leniency, year 2 would be expected to be progress and a tourney team, and year 3 should be where we have our new floor set as a consistent top 25 team moving forward. 10 years ago I’d have said we need patience with a new coach, it takes time to get your guys, build our culture, etc etc. But in todays game with the transfer portal and NIL, and the absolutely massive advantage that IU has in that arena, the timeline is, and should be, condensed considerably.
  18. I want us to win, to not get consistently embarrassed, and to see modern winning basketball on the court. This didn’t happen last year, and hasn’t happened consistently for the last 3 years, thus the existence of this thread. Apparently those 3 things are too much to ask of a coach who is paid as one of the top 15 guys in the sport.
  19. I hadn’t heard that before, where did you hear it? The only point I recall hearing is something about Mgbakos mom asking Woodson to recruit her son after he decommited from Duke. Obviously our team last year is much worse without him, but he’s clearly a guy who should be playing at the 4.
  20. Yeah, bringing in an NK type makes sense. But bringing in a guy who is likely even worse than NK, to sit at the end of the bench just in case of injury, could be fine I guess but is far from important. In that scenario I’d have to think we’re better with Malik at the 5 and then trying to hide his weaknesses, probably by playing some zone, or by ensuring the guys manning the 3 and 4 are better defending and rebounding options.
  21. I’m confused as to what caliber of player you think we’d be able to get in here for that role.
  22. Yes. I could say the same thing a number of our players. Id MUCH rather have Malik play the 5 than some random guy we could get from the portal who is willing to come in as a third stringer. We’re not getting top tier talent for that spot, just a body.
  23. You’re worried about sliding a guy to the 4 who was 6’8” 217lbs as a Freshman? He shouldn’t be “sliding” there, he should be playing there by default. Everyone but our coach seems to know he’s a PF.
