  1. Back the damn truck up for Oats. I may be happier with an Oats hire than a Stevens hire.
  2. I’d hope we have our sights aimed higher for that much money.
  3. Cronins buyout is pretty big though. $16m prior to March, 31st. $10m after that. Not sure he warrants that but will be curious to watch how it all plays out.
  4. Nate Oats would be my #1 option if landing him is realistic. I thought his buyout was insane though.
  5. You’d hope we’d land a more proven commodity. IU basketball should have far more pull than IU football did.
  6. He’s a top 15-20 coach in the sport. So no, he’s not the top option, or one of the top-3, but again we’d be silly to not be happy with him. He doesn’t “excite” me to the original point but acting like he’s not a good coach, or even calling him an average coach, is factually incorrect.
  7. If Crean had made a Final Four he'd have been given A LOT more leeway. That said, I was curious about your claim and Cronin's 6 years have absolutely been better than Crean. Here's how the first 6 years of Cronin compare to the last 6 of UCLA when looking at KenPom ratings as well as how the season finished.
  8. In 4 seasons: 1 final 4 2 sweet 16s I remove the Covid year, he’d have made the tourney then.
  9. I don’t care about his Midwest ties, look at his coaching record. I’m not saying he should be our top candidate, or even top 3, but we’d be silly to not be happy with him as our coach if he can replicate what he’s done at UCLA.
  10. Cronin has had a really good run as well and is one of the top coaches in the sport. Certainly better than our last two coaches by a significant amount.
  11. Im plenty ok if Dolson doesn’t prioritize “winning the press conference”. Stevens is the grand slam but there are still plenty of home run hires out there.
  12. Yeah, while he doesn’t “excite” me I’d be foolish to not be happy with what he’s done at UCLA. A F4 and two sweet 16s in 5 years is pretty good, and one of those seasons was the COVID cancelled tourney.
  13. Now that NIL is in place though we should be a much more desired destination. Regardless of how the Stevens situation plays out.
  14. Sticking with this.
  15. Until Brad says he’s out, I’m in.
  16. For clarity: this is Stevens or another candidate we’d be happy about?
  17. To the point: Yes, Cignetti was a great hire and showed some coaches can make the leap from lower level competition to higher level competition. But this isn’t definitive and is not indicative of how we should pursue our basketball hire. The football program has always been a laughing stock whereas, at least historically, the basketball program is top tier. This is why the approach should be different and IU should start at the absolutely highest level when considering candidates.
  18. Some people somehow think being cynical about everything is smart. I think that explains what you’re running into here and what we’ve seen in other threads.
  19. The way we’ve shot for the last decade you’d think our shooting coach was Dick Cheney.
  20. St Louis was 13-20 last year so that’s already a pretty solid turnaround.
  21. Yep, NIL has changed everything.
  22. Brad himself said he has the itch to coach. Didn’t specify at which level.
  23. Reading some of this discussion, I don’t think people understand basic probabilities. Is it probable that Stevens comes to IU? Doubtful. Is the probability that Stevens comes to IU zero? No. The information being provided suggests that the probability of him joining this time around is higher than last time. That doesn’t mean “100%” and just because he didn’t join last time doesn’t make it “0%”. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
  24. Had heard $6m as well and that it could have been more if requested. We’ve got deep pockets for “NIL”.
