You get invited to all the cool parties and get to hang after games with former Hoosier great Mike Woodson and his buddies. I doubt donor access like that happened under former IU basketball coaches.

Let's assume Cal backs out. Does UK fire Calipari for cause since he didn't properly notify them he was talking with Arkansas or does UK let Cal return because they don't see a viable alternative out there right now? -
Ultimately, it is an Administration issue. The Administration hired Woodson and the Administration retained Woodson. Our problem is that Dolson's background is in fundraising, so schmoozing boosters and making them happy has always been his priority. Rumor was that Dolson realized that Woodson isn't the answer. However, it appears that Dolson's instinct to appease donors won out which means another underperforming year for IU basketball.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but this seems like a huge mistake on Painter's part. The last team to beat UCONN was Creighton, and they were somewhere around 14/28 from three to do it. I feel like Painter should have tried getting more three-point looks for shooters last night. Not sure how much was Purdue players be reluctant to take shots and how much was the gameplan. Obviously, UCONN's defense also played a role in limiting Purdue's three-point attempts.

Unfortunately, this is spot on. I was listening to Goodman on the Field of 68 discussing Calipari to Arkansas and he mentioned that big NIL donors often have as much input on who the next coach is as the AD.

Sigh... Purdue has a chance to win their first National Championship, UCONN has a chance to win National Championship #6, USC and then Arkansas swung big in their coaching searches, and my Hoosiers are content to let mediocre Mike Woodson "play" head coach for another year. Another year of using our tremendous resources to bring in really good talent that doesn't fit any real plan is on the horizon. Mike Woodson has underperformed the first 3 years, and we get the privilege of watching him underperform in year 4 thanks to our donors and administration. Fire/retire Mike Woodson!

I was always a Dusty guy first, but it will definitely sting if Kentucky lands Pearl. That means IU was never truly interested in upgrading with Pearl. -
Evidently, we need to create a "safe space" in Btown Banners.

I think he may be referring to a "True Fan" forum where people just chill and the coaching staff can't be questioned.
-
Good morning! Fire/retire Mike Woodson.
-
You may not think it's great, but "true" beer fans know that it does its job!

I miss Bartles and Jaymes. Oh, and fire coach Woodson.

He's either savior #1 or savior #2. And he's about to be a very wealthy young man. -
I can't find the thread, but someone was commenting last week on IU's very positive record this year when Leal played 20+ minutes per game. While there were other determining factors outside of Leal that contributed to that record, however it does raise a discussion on Leal's role next year. Leal will be 5th year senior and should be able to help with leadership. He knows IU's offensive and defensive positioning and defensive rotations. Despite his average quickness, our defense was solid with Leal on the floor. Assuming that Woodson has learned the value of experience and system knowledge, how many minutes per game do we anticipate from Leal next year?

This is the NBA arrogance. They assume since the NBA is better, then the NBA coaches are better. The skillset for college basketball coaching is different and straight from the NBA guys often don't get it.

What's the scuttlebutt on Perkins? Have we told him that we have a couple of targets ahead of him for our starting point guard role or is he hoping to land somewhere else, and we are his fallback option? -
A Montverde player entered the portal. Chris Johnson from Texas. Do we have a relationship with him? Is he someone that we would want?
-
Agreed. IU has royally screwed this up. We have a 66-year-old coach, that's still learning the college game and roster construction. Woodson has proven in three years that even with talent, he's a just an adequate coach. There is no transition plan, and the Athletic Director is too weak to do what is in the best interest of the program. I'm afraid that an extension is more likely than a coaching change after next season. It's often that it's not what you know, but who you know, that is important in life. It sure seems that way for the IU basketball coach.
-
Somebody wants another extension. Fire/retire Woodson now!

We're all thinking it. That would be a very young team. Queue up the pre-recorded excuse now. -

We will get some good players and I'll root like heck for them. I want us to get good players because Woodson needs to have superior talent to be competitive. I hope that the staff surprises me, but I'm preparing myself for 2 or 3 good players and some uninspiring bench depth. I hope that we don't bring in a bunch of players in their last year. We need to start balancing our classes. -
Nice way of putting it if the rumors were true. :)

I'm probably in the minority, but I just don't see Tucker or Hickman coming to IU without a promise to start and that would mean Reneau at the 5. Reneau is a tweener. He's a great low post scorer but will have difficulty guarding the post. I think the IU staff has a tough task ahead trying to assemble a team considering our returning pieces.
