Tucker is a player that was going to the G-league and then the NBA. I can't imagine that he came to IU without being promised a starting job.
-
Just a guesstimate. Reneau 750k, MgBako 750k, Tucker 700K, Galloway 350K, Cupps 150K, Leal 125K, Newton 75K= $2.9 million. So, we should have about 3 million left to get a starting point guard, starting center, backup center, and a backup shooting guard and at least two guys to sit on the bench.
-
There's going to be a lot of unhappy people on this board if we don't bring in a point guard to play in front of Cupps. I like Cupps, but he should be a rotational player until his junior or senior years imo.
-
Yes, I thought about that. I think Woodson considered Xavier the starter, but Cupps ended up starting because of circumstances. Does anyone think Cupps starts at point guard this year? No, that's why I said three.
-
Happy three starters are returning because as much as I think Mike Woodson is just an average coach, superior talent can beat a lot of inferior teams. I don't think anyone on this thread wants a repeat of this year and missing the tournament. I will point out that we lost 6 of 12 players from our 2023-2024 roster, so we did lose 50%.
-
It's correct to say that we'll never know what Dusty would have done with our resources. We've seen that Mike Woodson doesn't understand the college game. I would have preferred to roll the dice on Dusty. The people that write the checks wanted their buddy Mike, so we'll underperform for a few more years, eke into the tournament a few times, and get this thread to 4000 pages.
-
We had it in Dusty, but evidently the timing wasn't right, or Woodson's friends wanted to prove Woodson can coach even though he underperformed the first 3 years.

I hope we are lining up visits for Little 500 weekend, April 19th and 20th. -
UCONN versus Purdue in the finals is my worst nightmare.

I thought Mack's violations at Louisville were minor level II violations. I'm not sure that he's a major rehab project. -
Crean, Archie, and Woodson have primarily brought in high character young men. Of course, some of the players made mistakes. Xavier's speeding incident comes to mind, but for the most part the players have represented IU well. I hope we don't become desperate and lower the quality of young men that we have represent IU.

I have a feeling that Jordan Rayford may be on scholarship next year to fill a slot.
-
I can't keep it straight. Half the board says that Reneau will start at center and half the board says we'll bring in a starting center and Reneau remains at the 4. Wolf could start if we choose to play two bigs again.
-
I'd take him. Wolf would be a really good rotational guy as a backup 5. Just guessing, I think he might end up at Northwestern.
-
FYI- KU lost a player and also was fulfilling a scholarship reduction penalty. NCAA rules allot KU 13 scholarships per year, but in connection with the school’s NCAA infractions case, it adopted last November a self-imposed reduction of three scholarships “to be distributed over the next three years.” With the decommitment of four-star freshman combo guard Chris Johnson, which he officially announced Monday after reports over the weekend, Kansas is now down to 10 scholarship players — three below its maximum — for the 2023-24 season.

Cannot or shouldn't? Because I believe that we certainly can. -
I hope that he does well. Gunn seems like a good young man.

Coach Woodson has three assistants and Armond Hill to discuss basketball and strategize with. Randy Wittman and I believe one other person were hired as consultants the last few years to provide input to coach Woodson. The fact that we don't value the three-point shot and incorporate analytics into our style of play and roster construction is all on Mike Woodson. The information has to have been provided to him, so I have to assume he just chooses to ignore it.

Transfer Portal w/IU Interest

The portal tracker that I follow hasn't shown IU having much interest in any big men so far. It seems to me that we need a center and another player that can play the 4 and the 5. Is Reneau going to play most of his minutes next year as our center or power forward? He's definitely a great low post scorer, I just worry about Reneau guarding in the post. -
I'm in the fire Mike camp, but I'm going to defend him a little on buying players. Coach Woodson is the only IU coach to operate in the NIL era. IU and all schools are learning and adjusting to the new reality. A lot of old school fans (like me) don't like that there currently seems to be no rules governing NIL. For many of us, building a team by being the highest bidder for a talented player still seems sleazy even though it is legal, and the NCAA has little power to rein it in. It's possible that coach Woodson is being unfairly criticized because we associate him with a new recruiting reality that we don't like. There are several good reasons to fire Mike Woodson, but I'm not sure using NIL money to buy a team is his fault. It's just the new reality of college basketball.

Braylon Mullins (2025) SG - to UConn

My first thought was fantastic! Unfortunately, in the game today, my second thought was we must be paying Mullins a bunch of money. -

NGW said that there would be changes in the coaching staff. We'll see. -
I know that many IU fans root for the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament. I do not. I will be rooting against Illinois tonight and Purdue tomorrow.

Highlights of new commit Bryson Tucker via Inside the Hall. He can definitely play the two guard. He's probably a natural three. Tucker seems to be a better ball handler and more fluid player than MgBako. Help me out here. I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or a defense of Woodson.
