We need an official announcement on retirement so we can get our next guy lined up. There's going to be competition this year. Currently- Virginia, Miami, and Florida State Probably- Iowa and Syracuse Possibly- North Carolina and Texas

I don't like the phrase "contemplating retirement". I'm still somewhat concerned. The pessimist in me is afraid that this is being floated in an effort to lower the hostility level of the fans that attend the game Saturday and going forward. I'm scared Woodson has no intention of stepping down. I think Woodson thinks he can save his job with a hot streak at the end of the year. The optimist in me is hoping for a press conference tomorrow. That the delay is so Woodson's wife and daughters could be flown in to be by his side. At this press conference, Woodson announces he is retiring at the end of the year which frees up IU to openly pursue candidates that may have been uncomfortable talking about a job that wasn't officially open.

It's Stevens. My understanding is that Home Jersey is going to make him an offer he can't refuse.
-
I would also add Randy Bennett to my list in tier 3. The guys is 62 and a great coach.
-
Woodson will just assume they are chanting for a visiting recruit since he has no idea of any recruit's name.

I like Beard. He can definitely coach basketball. I wanted him as coach before he took the Texas job. I don't see IU hiring him. Maybe there's a slim chance that IU pays for a thorough background and his girlfriend at the time says that she embellished everything. Even then, I think IU would look at several candidates first not wanting the negative reaction that would follow. If Beard was to get the job, I would speculate that Pat Knight might return as one of his assistants.

I have it on good authority that because the NBA has superior players the NBA coaches can coach circles around college coaches. There's nothing a college coach can do that an NBA coach can't do better. Or at least, the was the mindset when we hired Mike Woodson.
-
I still have nightmares about Woodson not knowing what the pack line defense was. The man is/was not a basketball junkie keeping up with changes in the game.
-
Was the potted plant Knight? I thought that was Dinardo or Crean? I think if you're an IU secretary it might be a good idea to not bring plants into the office.

If you have a current employee that has issues you would discipline them and try getting them assistance. If you are hiring for a high-profile position, you are not going to hire someone from the outside that has already displayed behavior that is deemed inappropriate. Thus, Beard, Wade, Jans, and Sean Miller would have almost no chance. IU hired someone who had prior issues in Sampson and that bit them in the rear. That mistake won't happen again.

KathywithaC said this is a very complicated case. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head.

Yes. But we didn't recruit a veteran back-up point guard, so we just told Xavier not to do it again.

Reading the various threads on a potential new coach is fun and frustrating. It's obvious why 1 person needs to be given the authority to hire a new coach because hiring by committee just doesn't work. The opinions in the various threads are great examples. Brad Stevens- Dream job, but he's an NBA guy now and not coming back to IU and college basketball Dusty May- Dream job, but he just took the Michigan job and won't leave after 1 year Bruce Pearl- Dream job, but he has his son set up to inherit the Auburn job so he won't leave Chris Beard- One of his two Dream jobs (Texas), but his personal issues in the past will keep IU from hiring him Shrewsberry- Dream job, but not proven enough and couldn't handle the spotlight Dolson just needs to find his guy and not accept no and any outside noise.

My fond memories of Mike Woodson the player are gone. They have now been overshadowed by Mike Woodson the unqualified coach that used his connections to get the IU coaching job. Woodson has turned this IU alum and lifelong IU fan indifferent about IU basketball until he's gone and someone new can provide hope. I still care that's why I'm here. But right now, the only interest I have in this team is getting a new coach and culture.

If we're going to do special jersey's once a year, go ahead and put the player's name on the back. Let's find out if the traditionalists' heads will really explode or if people realize there's nothing wrong with having the players' names on an IU jersey.
-
I keep hoping for the day (real soon) that one of our posters that has connections come on this board and say, "It's happening!". I sure hope it doesn't take us 2500 pages.
-
Yes, but we've had injuries again. If only our players could stay healthy. This is all on Tim Garl and not Mike Woodson.
-
Woodson doesn't get up until 9am. Then an hour of Sportscenter. After that he showers and applies his Just for Men on his beard. Then there's the stop at Starbuck's and he rolls into the office around 11:30. Scott Dolson will have to visit Mike's office at noon to deliver the news.
-
So sad having our starters in against walk-ons to try and make the score look respectable. Why not give our walk-ons the opportunity to say they played in a real game? I guess Woodson needed to boost some scoring averages for our future pro players.
-
Anyone know if Beard is still with his girlfriend/fiancee that called the police? It might be easier to gloss over his indiscretion if they were.

Stevens has a good relationship with the current Celtics owner. The Celtics will be sold very soon. Who knows how he'll get along with the new owner and the new owner may want to bring in their own President of Basketball Operations. Since IU last approached him, the Celtics won an NBA Championship. Stevens may now feel like mission accomplished with the Celtics. Stevens is 48. There's speculation that he has the hunger to coach again. Revitalizing his favorite childhood team may be the challenge that he's looking for.

It has to be said. Fire or retire Mike Woodson!
