Vanderbilt is a tough place to win. He was able to recruit NBA talent there which is an accomplishment in itself. His top recruit, Garland, got injured and didn't return.

If we are going to consider a tier 3 candidate with Indiana connections like Brownell, I have a suggestion. This coach has a .657 career winning percentage. At his most recent school, this coach has made the NCAA Tournament 3 of the last 4 years. This coach has proven he can recruit top 25 talent. This coach has played in the NBA and has former players playing in the NBA so this coach would have that selling point for recruits and portal players. If we are going tier 3 candidates, give me Bryce Drew over Brownell.

I'm still holding out for Stevens. I think there may be truth to us interviewing Brownell. It's possible that a big donor or someone highly respected like Calbert suggested him. In this scenario, Dolson is doing his due diligence so there are no feelings hurt if they hire someone else. Brownell may a slight upgrade to Woodson, but not enough to thrill me.

Are the mods reposting replies to boost the page count? I swear I've read this at least 5 times in the last 2 days. :)

Dolson went with an older candidate in Cignetti. Greg McDermott is 61 in November. I think he would be a great fit.

With mid-major coaches, you have to determine if they are winning because of their X's and O's or if they are simply out recruiting their mid-major competition and have better Jimmys and Joes. Because that recruiting doesn't always carry over when you go up a level.

Uh, oh! Shots fired! Expect 10 Beard pages incoming! :)

What's sad, is that I'm pretty at the start of the season Woodson anticipated playing Goode in his second group and only playing Leal spot minutes. Woodson finally figured out that we are a more competitive team playing Leal and Goode more minutes. I doubt we'll ever know if Woodson came to this on his own or finally listened to one of his assistants or consultants.

I've been trying to talk myself into supporting Will Wade as an option. The fact that he paid (or at least tried to pay) players gave him a sleaze factor that I haven't been able to shake. Wade definitely can coach, and he has the personality to succeed at IU. Looking back, a lot of the major schools were cheating in some capacity. Adidas was paying players to attend Kansas and Louisville. Nike was paying players to attend Kentucky, Duke, and North Carolina. Pitino, Self, Calipari, Williams, and Coach K may have insulated themselves from those conversations, but I will never believe that they weren't aware. As a society, most of us believe people should get second chances. Knight brought in some assistants that needed second chances. IU gave Sampson a second chance and that bit us in the rear. Sampson's third act is going well. My guess is that Wade would win big at IU. His show cause penalty ends June 21, 2025. Would IU consider hiring Wade when his season ends and suspending him until that date? I doubt it, but Wade will get another P5 job somewhere. Probably ASU.

If IU had a choice of McCollum or Otz, who would you hire? I would be happy with either. If IU had a choice of Drew or McCollum, who would you hire? Drew (I had to edit this after looking at Drew's final AP rankings the last several years.) If IU had a choice of Devries or McCollum, who would you hire? McCollum

Reading the lists of great guitarists makes me realize that I've lived in a golden age that I probably didn't appreciate as much as I should have. My fear is that rock music is fading away. Hopefully, the next generation will embrace it again.

Add to this that President Whitten is not going to risk her career and her reputation on Chris Beard.

If we were an NBA team or a minor league team this would make sense. However, we are the flagship University of the state. The IU basketball coach will be one of the most visible individuals representing the university. His past actions matter. Beard will not be hired by IU. There are other qualified candidates without the baggage.

The search firm consisting of Josh Pastner, Tom Crean, Seth Greenberg, and Mark Turgeon recommended Josh Pastner, Tom Crean, Seth Greenberg, and Mark Turgeon as top candidates for the open IU head coaching position.

That can't be good. I doubt they are pictures of him holding a trophy. :)

Dolson simply needs to make a call to Pat Knight to get the real scoop on Beard. I think Pat's input would give Dolson a clear picture whether Beard is a guy IU would want.

Question for the board. Does Dallas James get any playing time on Saturday?

Auto benched with 2 fouls. I think will see an aggressive Goode to start the second half. -
Which of the coaches mentioned would be a total let down? I could live with a lot of the names mentioned on this board, but I would be depressed if we end up with adequate and not someone who is considered great or at least a potential star. My ugh list would be Turgeon, Brownell, and Jans.

I'm thinking we win a close one. The team has been playing much better since we changed to playing our older players more minutes.
