  1. Yep, it works well when they can go to top 50ish players, swoop in, and land them after a short recruitment. See: Duke, Kansas, Kentucky. Recent example: Passmore to Kansas when McNeeley started to seem unlikely. IU doesn't have that clout yet. That said, the transfer portal and coaching carousel means there will good players available in the spring or summer. Woodson and staff have done well in this regard. Highly ranked transfers or decommits landed: Ware - great pickup with lots of questions but potential high reward. Would be huge if the staff can get him back to a lottery pick. Mgbako - expected to be one and done Reneau - so-so freshman year. High expectations for this year. Bates - didn't work out but was highly ranked in HS Bonus: JHS even though it wasn't spring or summer, he was a highly ranked decommit that IU landed Other transfers: Johnson - Very good pickup. Started the whole time. Kopp - Good pickup. Was a starter whole time, played solid but not spectacular. Sparks - TBD Walker - TBD but likely a decent role player as he was in Miami. He did have one really good year there. Durr - ok role player, played to expectations. Stewart was a Miller recruitment. I think a lot is dependent on how IU does this season. If the team does well with Ware and Mgbako being first round picks, IU could clean up in the spring. Throw in a decent tournament run (S16) and that becomes even easier. Of course, if the team flops this year that makes it harder. It kind of sucks having to depend on this but having that potential makes going hard after these 3 5* recruits make sense.
  2. It's a good thing Cupps has a year behind Johnson to get ready to take over the team.
  3. Doubtful. I expect right around the early enrollment period unless he quickly commits to Maryland after the visit there.
  4. There's Tom Allen's excuse for losing to them.
  5. In the past, sure. With the transfer portal it makes more sense to take chances like this. Combine that with the likelihood of highly ranked recruits becoming available again in the spring and Woodson's ability to land them, I don't really see too much reason to worry if IU misses on both Boogie and Queen. I'd rather have one or both, sure, but team building isn't the same as it was just a few years ago.
  6. I visit both sites so I don't remember which it is was. I just remember one poster being very adamant about it and arguing with everyone who didn't agree. He, if course, turned out to be wrong. Point being that even though I can see how it seems like a tell, I don't think it really is. Especially following a girl
  7. Maybe it was on HSN, but I remember this being touted as a tell by one poster during the Ledlum recruitment. It didn't really work out then and I wouldn't put too much stock into it now.
  8. Yeah, it's a good pick up. Swimswam only ranks top 20, then they have an honorable mention which is the next ~5 swimmers. These tend to be swimmers that are elite (top of the class) at a few events and/or very versatile and are good for relays. Then they have Best of the Rest, which are other really good swimmers worth mentioning but might be only pretty good at fewer events or not quite as fast as the elite. She is currently ranked by them in this category. Very good but not top of the class. Kind of like a 4* basketball player. Plus, she's just a junior so she has time to improve before even getting to IU.

  10. Wow. That's really....something. Who thought that was a good idea?
  11. Especially if that algorithm doesn't take into account the schools he's actually considering at the time.
  12. I'm too young to remember watching this but I have never seen pictures or videos with the 3-point line closer than the top of the key. That would be pretty crazy if it was that close.
  13. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine says he'll end up at.... Michigan. lmao, that thing is so broken. It has UM at 19.9%, IU 17.4%, UK 14.9%, and UNC (lol) 12.4%. Rivals future cast has IU 100%, no 247 CB. https://www.on3.com/db/boogie-fland-64138/
  14. Yes, what you say about McNeeley is correct. I think Mgbako is considered as more of a scorer who is a decent shooter.
  15. In his case, even that wasn't a done deal. Not even enrolling in school and starting practice was a done deal for him.
  16. @Uspshoosier explains above, they saw him play and he wasn't playing well due to injury. 5 rating points seems to be a pretty steep drop considering all the other times he's been playing well.
  17. As for #2, Woodson has only coached for 3 off-seasons in college ball. So this is really his only second chance at long recruitments. It looks like he's learned from past misses. IU offered McNeeley in April of 2022, so 1 1/2 years ago. How many recruitments of that length did IU have of anywhere near that length in Woodson's second off-season? At that time, Woodson had only 1 season of play to point at as far trying to convince recruits. Basically, he was still new to college coaching and it was a small sample size. I understand it was the guy from HH saying it, it just seems like a premature statement to make. What has changed is that he had more time to get to know Liam and his family, he has 2 seasons to point at with the most recent one being pretty successful, he's had more commitments from highly ranked recruits, he's put 2 players into the NBA with one of those a one-and-done from Liam's school. It certainly didn't hurt that JHS has been vocal with how going to IU helped him. Success breads success, so ifIU does well this season and Mgbako and/or Ware get drafted in the first round this year, Woodson will have an even better chance of landing players of this caliber.

  19. Having Queen's very good friend who can remind him every day (directly or not) who he can be playing with next year certainly won't hurt.
  20. I wonder what happened in September? 247 slashed his rating by 5 points in less than a week. On 9/7 they had him at a 98 rating and then on 9/13 they dropped the rating to 93 which is also his lowest. This after he played well over the summer. Seems like a mistake to me. Makes them look clueless. That's why I prefer the composite. More importantly is who is recruiting him hard. I think those coaches know better than 247. https://247sports.com/PlayerSport/boogie-fland-at-archbishop-stepinac-273597/RecruitRankHistory/?history=top247
