  1. Because we also don't spend very much on that sport, even with greatly overpaying the HC. We go cheap on assistants, recruiting, facilities, etc.
  2. He sounds like a better option at HC than Allen.
  3. This author uses a lot of words to say, "I don't know." https://bustingbrackets.com/2023/10/13/ncaa-basketball-recruiting-kansas-indiana-best-spot-5-star-liam-mcneeley/
  4. Unlike Crean then Miller, I don't think the next football hire could be even worse than the current one.
  5. That's pretty much what he said, except he confused "hope" with "wish."
  6. https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/10/14/announcement-primer-class-of-2024-forward-liam-mcneeley/
  7. He was in the same incoming class as Galloway and Leal. He gets a COVID year. Even if he came the year after, he would have 1 more year left since this would be his junior year.
  8. Because some people realize that the opposing players are actual people and might like that person and want them to do well.
  9. I see where you're coming from. That makes sense.
  10. Going by last year, that's a pretty big IF. I think he can do better and probably will but I'll wait to see. Right now he's just a threat to shoot from the bench but not actually a threat to score. Ware showed more flashes of being a scorer last year than Gunn did but you seem higher on Gunn than Ware, which is odd to me.
  11. I agree. This definitely looks like a thin, top heavy team.
  12. That would not surprise me in the least.
  13. He's been my favorite player on the team since his freshman year. He's not a stat stuffer but he does a lot of things that help the team win and plays with so much effort and energy. That can be contagious. Even his freshman year, the other players seemed to have more energy and play harder when he was in the game. The Miller teams never seemed to have much energy or effort so it was very noticeable. He's made great improvements in his shooting but I think a lot of his poor shooting was due to wrist injuries during HS messing up his form. Regardless of the reason, he worked hard to fix it. Speaking of injuries, last year his most unappreciated improvement may have been finding a way to play as hard as he does without getting injured. He's been injury prone because of his style of play and I had my doubts he could go a whole season without missing games due to injury but he was able to last year. He needs to keep that up. What he's really missing is becoming a consistent scorer. If he can do that, it would do wonders for the team, especially if he's at or around double digits.
  14. 5 players at double figures would be great. It's been a long time since IU had a team with scoring that spread out. It usually makes it a hard to guard team that wins a lot of games.
  15. I really wonder why so many see Maryland as the leader simply because they're the home team. He's played at Montverde in Florida for several years so being away from home obviously doesn't bother him. In addition, his family would be able to watch every game on TV at the other two schools he's considering. He may well end up at Maryland, but I suspect that it will be for reasons other than they're the home team unless he grew up a die-hard Maryland fan. If that was the case, why wouldn't he have already committed? More likely he would just feel that Maryland was a better fit for him as far as style of play, promises made on how he'd be used, relationship with the coaches and/or players, etc. I just don't see the fact that it's the hometown team mattering too much since he went away for HS.
  16. Swimswam has IU's men's freshman class at at #4: https://swimswam.com/ranking-the-2023-mens-ncaa-recruiting-classes-1-4/ Women's team as an honorable mention (outside of top 16 but top 20 or 25) https://swimswam.com/ranking-the-2023-womens-recruiting-classes-honorable-mentions/ IU represented well in the NCAA champion predictions. Especially on the men's side: Men: https://swimswam.com/swimswams-pre-season-2024-mens-ncaa-champions-picks/ Women: https://swimswam.com/swimswams-2024-womens-ncaa-pre-season-champion-picks/
  17. This article is ripping the NCAA (rightfully so) for being inconsistent and weak. He also points out there is no benefit to working with them if caught in anything. The best thing to do is to fight. If only IU had done that. He calls the NCAA a fraud. He's correct. https://sports.yahoo.com/credit-kansas-for-exposing-what-an-utter-joke-the-ncaa-has-become-022733129.html Another article saying more of the same: https://www.heartlandcollegesports.com/2023/10/12/five-thoughts-on-kansas-iarp-ruling-and-punishment/ OSU and its fans are understandably upset: https://pistolsfiringblog.com/kansas-ncaa-wrist-slap-should-not-be-a-surprise-at-this-point/
  18. Ex-Memphis player and father of a 4* recruit Billy Richmond says the NIL at Memphis isn't very good. That certainly confirms why Givens ended up selecting LSU. https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/college/memphis-tigers/2023/10/10/billy-richmond-father-of-top-memphis-recruit-criticizes-fans-over-nil/71131549007/
  19. Yes, that would be really nice to see. It's been quite a while since I looked at an IU team and thought that they were overperforming. The last couple of years have been good but I would say that Woodson was just getting them back to meeting expectations for the talent on the team (maybe even slightly underperforming) after 4 years of significantly underperforming under Miller. Crean did a decent job of getting his teams to perform to their talent levels and maybe slightly overperform some years while underperforming others. Very up and down with him. As much as he was a mistake to hire, Sampson had his teams overperforming imo.
  20. UK's pro day is today so it's not Cal. At most an assistant or it may have nothing to do with Boogie.
  21. You're correct but I think the season has actually started. However, even during the season they are limited in the number of hours they are allowed to work directly with the players (practice). It's more time than during the offseason but still limited. The players aren't limited in how much they work on their games without the coaching staff, as you say. I'm not positive about this but the number 20 hours per week comes to mind. I think that is how much practice time the coaches are allowed to have during the season. Edit: I looked it up and the 20 hours per week is correct. In addition they are restricted to 4 hours per day and you were correct about requiring 1 day off per week. These number are just the maximum the staff can require and work with the players.
  22. His offensive numbers weren't great last year but he was still a rim protector so I think at very least that is what IU gets this year. 1.3 blocks in less than 16 minutes per game. That works out to about 3.3 blocks per 40 minutes. That's pretty close to what TJD averaged last year. Now if he can get the offense going too? Especially if Mgbako is as good as advertised, Reneau makes a jump, and Galloway and Johnson don't have a drop off from past performances? Watch out. Such a high ceiling for this team but also lots of questions, especially about the bench. It might take some time before it all meshes but they could really be hard to beat by the end of the season.
  23. If they can use that chain during the game they might have a chance simply by injuring all of the Michigan players. Other than that...not really.
  24. https://themessenger.com/sports/mens-college-basketball-2023-ncaa-top-freshmen Mackenzie Mgbako, 6-foot-8, 217 lbs., F, Indiana — Two years ago, I thought he was the No. 1 player in the class. Initially, he was slated to go to Duke but wound up in Bloomington. He’s a combo forward who has a versatile offensive game, and Mike Woodson will need him to be able to shoot it from long distance this season.
  25. If Trilly Donovan is right about the Boogie commitment on the 16th (and if the IU fans are interpreting his posts correctly), it could be a huge couple of days for IU. Or a very disappointing couple of days. Either way, less than a week until we know.
