They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
go iu bb replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You say that Buckner knows a lot about basketball. I believe that, he should as a former player and (a very bad) coach. Yet you also claim that the nepotism on his part and the half-a$$ed "coaching" on Woodson's part is due to their love of IU basketball and not because of ego or money. Somehow they don't recognize the terrible product on the floor? They don't see the win/loss record and all the blowouts? How can these two do this to the program they supposedly love if not for ego and money since they know so much about basketball? No effort has been made on either's part to make the changes necessary to actually produce a winning team. That means they either don't understand or they just don't care. Since everyone agrees that it isn't the former, it must be the latter. Why? The obvious answers are money and/or ego. They're ruining their legacies because of it. Fans under 50 don't remember them as players, just what they're seeing now. What is being shown now isn't a good look. -

It's inevitable that the grammar and spelling police eventually make a mistake themselves and look like bigger fools for it. -

One doesn't appoint a quest but one may give one. So "self-appointed" does not work better here. Your posts are becoming quite boring and heading toward boorish. -

So now you're becoming pedantic and pointing out every misspelling and grammatical error? I think you're taking this self given quest to inform the ignorant masses on a message board a bit too seriously. -

The important but part of the contract was the raise for assistant coaches. $11M. That's elite level. O$U's assistant coach budget is less than $1M more and they hire big names as their assistants such as Chip Kelly. So that is a big deal. All CCC really has to do is be a good CEO of the program which he has shown he can be. He has shown he can not only identify talent in players (with the help of his assistant coaches) but he can identify talented assistant coaches. When these assistant coaches leave to become HCs themselves, I am confident he'll find good replacements. The added money for assistant coaches will also help retain them for longer than they may have otherwise been here. -
He's not a very good coach so you're probably right. Losing every year to Michigan doesn't help, especially this year when a mediocre Michigan team cost them a spot in the B1G Championship and a chance at a CFP bye.

It's almost like the non-con schedule was put together just to rack up wins without regard to how it would effect NET rankings... Oh, right, that's exactly what it was and B4A didn't go as anticipated.

Don't forget AH, who has posted quite a bit here. He 's been pretty quiet since B4A started, though. I wonder why. -

Yes, I believe that they got to play in 4 seasons other than that one. Since he redshirted that year, it was basically a waste of the COVID year. -

I agree, after B4A that is looking quite unlikely. They'd see teams of UL or Gonzaga quality is the round of 32 assuming they win the first round (which also assumes they even make the NCAAT). Yet you wonder why people aren't happy. Hmm -

He is helping run the program into the ground and apparently he doesn't care enough to put in the work to actually change course. His scheme sucks and he refuses to change it. The game planning looks terrible time after time so the team often looks unprepared. The players look undisciplined. The players look unmotivated. HS recruiting is almost non-existent. Getting blown out by teams with a pulse. Closer than they should be games against lesser teams. Those things take time and effort. Just looking at those things gives the impression that that effort isn't being made. Then there are the many stories which back that up. Hell, after a loss a picture was posted that night of him sitting around with his buddies smoking cigars and drinking wine which gives the appearance that the losses don't bother him. When we lose, we get the same excuses over and over again which indicates that there isn't any real assessment being done of what is going wrong and how to fix it. So what is he doing that shows he actually loves the program and doesn't want his legacy to be a bad one? I don't see it. As for Buckner, is he not watching the games? Is he no longer able to tell the difference between good basketball and bad basketball? The problems with the team should be obvious as they're the same problems that have plagued them for the first 3 years under Woodson. -

Let's not overlook that those 2 have been coached by these guys all year. Those coaches have enough experience to have a good idea whether they can get them to the level they want (or if they're already there) before next season. Regardless, I think the coaching staff will evaluate players in the transfer portal to see if there is another potential home run like Rourke there. Someone that is a multi-year starter that is a proven winner. -

Before becoming IU's coach, all of Woodson's college basketball experience was before the 3-point line was added. Allowing long 2s was a good idea. So I guess he hasn't adjusted to this "new" college game where they're no longer long 2s but are instead worth 3 points. -

When do the roster size changes take effect? At some point soon, kickers will have to be on scholarship since walk-ons will not be allowed. -

It's not surprising to hear that they're not thinking midseason firing. Woodson is getting paid regardless so let him wrack up the losses and show even his supporters that he deserves to get fired. I think by the end of the year the fan base will be as united as it can be that it's time for a new coach. Woodson year 4 by itself won't be good (especially compared to expectations after the offseason "win") but will look very bad when compared to CCC year 1. -
Bummer. I liked him.

May as well. With 4 turnovers, PU obviously doesn't want to have the ball since they keep giving it up. -

11-1 in his first season. Outside of the CFP committee totally screwing us, going to the CFP. I'm starting to think that this might have been a decent hire. -
