Our guard game, lead by Rob, threw PU on its heals. PU will come out ready and balling in the second, how we prepare for that, and how we play with TJD back in will be key. I hope we don’t just go back with the starters -

No of course not but the promise was there, he came out as a really strong, solid guard and we were all talking about how good he was. Then came the concussions -

I don’t care what anyone says about Rob, if you can’t see a 17 point half, single handedly carrying this team on his back, you’re freaking blind. This is the Rob we saw early as a frosh. And man it’s good to see -

Indiana Box Plus/Minus stats

First, among other things this highlights Geronimo's positive impact, he needs to play more - and he did against Nebraska, and capitalized (21 min, 10 pts, 4-4 and 2-2 from stripe, 8 boards, 1 assist, steal and block, 1 TO). The only +/- here that I don't think is really reflective is Bates. Think his +/- will grow with his minutes as he continues his frosh growth, he's an excellent two-way player. -
There's nothing unfortunate about seeing Geronimo.

And it's not like it's some wack idea out of fantasy, Woodson's seen it at every level pro level included, confidence is huge, for shooters, and for the team to get those close W's on the road, it's just another way of saying a team that doesn't have players who have won, has to learn how to win on the road. Teams that close with confidence, vs. teams that dominate the first half and then look like the deer in the headlights down the stretch (sound familiar?). Shooters that shoot with confidence are going to start hitting even when they start out poorly, and CAM reigned in players and limited their offense. I don't know to what extent Rob was affected by his concussions (clearly set him back) or by struggling with confidence, but it's there.

Prediction League (Game 18 - Purdue 1/20/22)

Looks like PU's a -2.5 favorite so far But screw it, not picking with my head, going with my heart IU 74 PU 72 -
Only quoting you because this is a somewhat popular idea out of frustration of the issues at the point -- thing is, Galloway is just not a pg, and fwiw he has committed 7 TO's in the past 2 games and that's not playing the role leading the team on ball and facing guard pressure on ball. No way Galloway would realistically be able to step into that role, he doesn't have pg experience, or, really, the handle, and even off ball he's shown a tendency to drive (e.g. baseline) with nowhere to go but into traffic. And I really, really like Galloway and his upside -- this is in no way, shape or form some kind of bash on him, he's just in no way a D1-ready point guard, it's not his position. Same goes for Leal (who has driven straight into the teeth of heavy traffic on more than one occasion and thrown the ball away, and is simply inexperienced) and anyone else. X and Rob together are our on ball vets for this season. Both have shown improvement and flashes of strong play this year, both have frustrated everyone this year, it's what it is -- here's to hoping they continue to gel into Woodson's system and settle down.

Crazy that we haven't beaten PU since 2016. 9 straight losses, and with CAM's disappointing tenure. Can Woodson and the new staff get the W on a strong (gag) PU team? It's an uphill battle for sure, but we're all in on protecting home court, and no time like the present -
I just lost some brain cells

^^ And some things that stand out to me from the +/- top lineups: - Of the starters, Only TJD and Race are in both the top by minute and top overall +/- (that lines up for me) - Rob is in the top lineup by minute (X is not), and the 2nd top lineup overall by +/- (that's interesting) - All starters are in both the top lineup by usage and top lineup overall (but not by min) (bet that's not true of a number of other games) - Of subs, Bates, Galloway, and Rob were in top lineup by min and 2nd top lineup overall, Geronimo in the 2nd top lineup by min and 3d top lineup overall
