Indiana stayed at #24 this week in my Top 25. Or many in front of them lost and a big win by Memphis kept them in place. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I wonder how Maryland fans are feeling... after two weeks of the season they had beaten Howard 79-0. Then in week 2 beat the #21 Syracuse Orange 63-20 and they were in the Top 25 at #21... and then went all downhill from there as they lost a close one to Temple, got smoked 59-0 by Penn State. But then rolled Rutgers 48-7 so maybe things turned back around... nope. They lost Purdue 40-14. Lost to Indiana and then got whooped by Minnesota 52-10. And they are now losing 21-0 to Michigan. They still have Ohio State, Nebraska and Michigan State left. What started out as a promising season is ending up looking like a 3-4 win season. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
We got Malcolm Brogdon... that’s it. In a season knowing Vic would be missing half or more of the season, and knowing that you should be building for the season after this year and further, the last thing you do is waste picks and trade away picks when there are formidable players to be picked. Wasted a pick of Leaf. Wasted a pick on Goga. Warren is only considered a good pickup because of his cheap contract. McConnell shouldn’t be on the team. Our wing depth is incredibly weak. Basically all Pritchard did was making sure the team stayed mediocre even though it’s obvious this team can’t compete with Boston, Milwaukee or Philly in a 7 games series and in 2020-2021 it’ll be the same with Brooklyn when Durant returns. Then you have teams legitimately building for the future and ready to pass the Pacers like Atlanta. Really the other team with as bad a roster as the Pacers that’s a playoff team would be the Heat but they have a way better coach in Spoelstra. We let Young, Bogdanovic and Joseph walk when they could have and should have been traded last season for picks and the same for Tyreke Evans before he was banned. But Pritchard will continue trying to find ways to be mediocre rather than trying to go above and beyond like Milwaukee has. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

TJ Leaf is absolutely awful. An absolute waste of a pick, which I didn’t like the Goga pick and still don’t considering what went after him and the same for Leaf. McMillan is terrible with young talent and never gives them much of chances to go out and get something done. With Vic being out, Holiday should be starting with Lamb coming off the bench where he would be best. Warren needs to be coming off the bench too but we just don’t have anything on the bench because it’s that bad. Missing on picks can set a team like the Pacers back a bit. Especially when that player continues being on the roster. Without any hindsight, the Pacers could have taken John Collins, Jarrett Allen or OG at #18. How Leaf had any draft stock, I’m not sure. How Leaf had any hype even coming out of HS, I’m not sure because I never thought he even looked like an elite college freshman. I think Holiday was a really good choice in 18’ and that picking him, Simons, Shamet or reaching for Jalen Brunson would have been good choices at #23. Then we took Goga at #18. While guys like Matisse Thubulle went #19, Nassir Little went #25 Dylan Windler went #26 and Keldon Johnson went #29. Then the God awful decision to trade the #32 pick where they could have taken Carsen Edwards to help the backcourt with a confident scoring guard. Then traded the #50 pick where they could have draft-n-stashed Kyle Guy. McMillan needs fired and so does Kevin Pritchard. This off season was an embarrassment. He and Sabonis are good. Turner needs to step up and the Pacers need another wing. Warren just isn’t good for a starting group. Especially when Vic gets back. They need someone who can play D and hit 3’s. Maybe they can trade for Trevor Ariza or Mo Harkless. Aaron Holiday needs to be given minutes over TJ McConnell as well. But then again... McMillan is not a good coach and he’s just awful offensively. So this team was always going to struggle on that end of the floor. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I doubt Garcia will be signing up to wait for his Junior season while Marquette is telling him he will start day 1. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Bryce Harper was also incredibly overrated and the Nationals went on a miracle run. I’ll wait and see if the offense is any good, but my prediction is that it will still struggle and that Archie’s system will continue to not work. I don’t care if you have shooters or not, his system really only works well if you have a dominant scorer. It’s the same type of system(not a copy but it’s close) as Houston uses for James Harden, OKC used for Westbrook or Cleveland used for LeBron. We obviously don’t have any scorers like that and Romeo was hurt last season as our only wing scorer. Will Green make that jump? Will Phinisee? If you go back and watch the Gannon game, just watch closely at the ball screens, they aren’t great and don’t do much. Majority of the time it just looks like the players are just going through the motions of the offense rather than reading and reacting to the defense. Maybe Archie is just waiting, but he really doesn’t have time to wait. Real progress needs to be shown this season. We can’t have so many stinkers like we’ve have the past two seasons. It is unacceptable. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Well I guess you can go check another post where I said we should make the tourney in year 4? And should be expected to win the B1G if Smith, Durham and TJD all return for year 4? Is that not positive enough for you? As of right now, Archie has done nothing. And yes, there has been way more bad than good. Yes we beat Michigan State twice, we beat Michigan, we beat Marquette and you can even put the Notre Dame game from his first season with how the team fought to win. At the same time, you have to look at the bad. Which I listed earlier. Because we have gotten our butts kicked way too often or just took the floor without a single player looking like they cared. Players not progressing, terrible offenses and terrible shooting. Some of his recruiting is wait and see. Leal seems to have adjusted his jump shot for the better and closer to a Klay Thompson which is something I wanted to see. Hopefully we get Garcia to continue having some great length and bigs for the future. My biggest problem with Archie is his offense. Simply because it is terrible and hasn’t ever been successful. And it isn’t setup to be incredibly successful. He’d honestly be better off just scrapping it and going to a simple motion offense that mixed in some other simple offense like the flex and Princeton. His is based off of ball screens over and over again. The problem the past two seasons with that is that the screener, normally Morgan or Smith, was incredibly lazy at setting a screen or released too early. Can Archie make Indiana a decent team and a program that has some pop ups as a top 15 team? Of course. It happens for plenty of schools at random. That’s where Indiana has been the last decade. Maybe you should read what I actually type. I don’t know if you just assume what I’m saying or just read everything I say wanting to badly disagree with it but you definitely don’t read it correctly. People like me love eating crow, it’s delicious. And remember one thing, everyone is ignorant. Including you. No one knows everything. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

You’re one of the few who beat their chest over beating MSU like it just wipes out all the butt kickings this program has taken under Archie and all the embarrassing games we’ve had to watch under Archie. You gotta call out the bad and the good. And there has been way more bad than good. You just want it to be rainbows and sunshine so you block out the bad. Well you say they are on the same level, but they clearly aren’t. In terms of success, Archie hasn’t done anything. Both of those coaches have started off much better by just making the NCAA tourney. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

And none of that still equals to what Archie hasn’t done at IU. We do have 5 wins over ranked teams under Archie. Mack has 4 and one of those is MSU as well. So MSU was bad against bad teams like UofL and IU? Which UofL did end up making the NCAA tourney and going to the 2nd round. Holtmann has only beaten 3 ranked teams which isn’t good. Though one of those was also Michigan State in his first season when they were #1. He also has 2 NCAA tourney wins. Which is still better than Archie. So both of them are still doing better than Archie and there really isn’t any arguing about it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Except Mack is starting his second season with Louisville ranked #5 in the AP and the Cosches poll and Holtman has OSU ranked #18 in the AP and #16 in the Coaches. In Archie’s first two seasons we have spent 6 weeks in the AP Poll. SIX. 21st being the highest. Mack had Louisville with 5 weeks in his first season with the highest being 15th. Holtmann has had Ohio State in the polls for 16 weeks with the highest being 8th in 2018. Last season was the season for Archie and the team fell flat on their faces. The excuses of injuries can be made, but the stretch of losses was embarrassing. 3-4 good wins doesn’t hide the bad losses he’s had over the past two seasons. Lost to Indiana State 90-69 in his first ever game. Lost to IPFW 92-72. Lost to Michigan State 85-57. Then lost to Rutgers in the first round of the B1G tourney. Lost to Duke last season 90-69 in embarrassing fashion. Got worked by Michigan 74-63, Nebraska 66-51, Purdue 70-55. Lost to Northwestern in embarrassing fashion. Got worked again by Michigan. Lost to Rutgers in yet another embarrassing game. Minnesota steamrolled us 84-63. Lost to Iowa in OT after leading for the whole game. Then lost to Ohio State in the biggest game of Archie’s career and that game was embarrassing for the most part as it seemed no one cared to for 3/4 of the game. But yet fans don’t care about any of those games because we beat MSU twice, Wisconsin once and Marquette. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

In the long run no. But that’s a whole different situation. If he can consistently get to bowl games and only miss every few years, that’s successful for football. If we pass Michigan State as the 4th best in the East, that’s ultra successful. But in basketball, Archie doesn’t only have to make this team win, he has to make them annual Big Ten title contenders and a national powerhouse who is considered to be a national title contender basically every season. Where we are talked about in the same sentence as UNC, Duke, UK and KU every single year. Allen has a way better chance at getting to a bowl game 3 out of 5 years than Archie does in becoming a national powerhouse. Now of Archie’s only goal is to be a yearly NCAA tourney team, then our standards have obviously dropped and he can pull that off and we can just settle for getting in. We all want the team to succeed, doesn’t mean we all believe it is going to. We will cheer every game, doesn’t mean we think it’s a successful season. I would have stopped being a fan a long time ago if I didn’t think Indiana could never make it back. I just don’t think Archie is that guy. I don’t think he’s a good enough coach to get Indiana where it needs to be. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
